- What did I find at an estate sale with more than 10,000 records? Hawkwind, and a few other decent records from Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy, Third World, and more. lol I don't clickbait.
Many youtube viewers think server space is magically free. Love the uploads. Keep up the good work.
Record searching is a challenge and labor of love!! But when you find a masterpiece it’s makes it all worth while!! Great job!!
Absolutely!
Pet sounds is good ! I’ll take that
Love Butterfield Blues Band is Elvin Bishop on it? UK press nice
Love the Jimmy Buffett Robert !!!!!!
Lovely stuff. I picked up Manifesto (Roxy Music), Boys and Girls and Another Time Another Place (Bryan Ferry) for three pounds each today and am extremely happy about it.
Nice to listen to someone else’s reviews too. 👍
Heaven Tonight is one of my top 5 albums and when I jumped on the Cheap Trick train 😁🚂
Cheap Trick did the 2 members together on the front and back due to the contrast of the 2 good looking guys and the 2 oddballs. On In Color the poster boys are on Harley’s on the front and the other guys are on tricycles on the back. That is a fun album as well as their debut album.
@@michaelivan9066 Cheap Trick had an obvious image. Like Robin's long hair and suit and tie. Or Carlos' cigarette.
Yep, they had a great sense of humor about that! Loved it. Great band.
Yea Robert that does sound like the typical estate sale record selection as of late. Its a middle point between the years when family’s didn’t know about valuable records and the coming years where all the tabernacle orchestra and Perry comos will be extinct
Nicely done with the Eddie Murphy “Nothin’ From Nothin’” lyrics! I can never hear that song without hearing Eddie in my head! 😂😂😂
If you found Hawkwind, it was worth it. Wow, the Midnight Rambler comparison is spot-on. I feel like Hawkwind are out there yet somehow still very accessible.
Holy shit, Robert, you showed another picture of an 8-track I submitted to Discogs. You did it with my Columbia House Houses Of The Holy. Even weirder, I got those together! They are also the only two 8-tracks I have submitted, as I do not own many. I have also uploaded my vinyl copies of (X(?)) In Search Of Space and Ohio Players Pain (not mine pictured) to Discogs, so I guess the moral of the story is I am on Discogs too much.
Can't wait for the Sunflower versus a cassette player cleaning tape with no audio video!
Wow! That's quite a coincidence. You upload the most noteworthy 8 tracks!
Hawkwind cool ! I have an 80's copy ... never seen the original cover. Thanks !!!
WOW!.. thanks Robert, what a big undertaking 🤘✌️
My favorite Hawkwind album. It was one of the first records I was looking for when I started collecting records.
I’d definitely have gone to that estate sale, but, yeah, seeing those crappy box sets screams “hoarder”. The family culling the Beatles and Stones wouldn’t have deterred me a bit, the non collectors always miss good stuff. Always fun digging through tons of records
Absolutely
I’m glad you came away with some good music. I’m a Butterfield fan so i’m a little jealous. :) enjoyed the video.
Thank you for doing this video! I'm in Sw Missouri and almost made the drive up after seeing that listing! Glad I didn't cause you did! Haha
Someone apparently came all the way from Georgia for the 78s
You’re very comedic!😂 Glad your channel came up on my TH-cam feed!
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Peter North was a huge talent.
😂 that was a great...shot
HA - I get it
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend Robert also happy long weekend of summer 😊❤
Hawkwind was a killer find for 5 bucks!
I love Heaven Tonight, great album.
My fave however is the debut Cheap trick album 1977, it's insanely original and every song is amazing, check it out.
I have that one. It was one of four that I had heard before
The first Buffet albums up to Margaritaville are really the best. He was my first concert when I was 14 with Steve Miller and the Little River Band.
I would have wound up with that Bobby Moore fooled by the cover too. The model is a cutie... I'd be hoping for an Aretha vibe... The Space Rock thing campy or no by Visitors sounds like my groovw 100 percent. I love campy concept records. I'd probably have wound up just surfing for random picture discs and colored vinyl...
Hello Robert, I have never watched you before and really enjoyed your tale of the dig. Humor, mortality AND discovering "Heaven Tonight" (one of my fav Cheap Trick albums)...made for an action packed time. New subscriber!
Thanks!! I appreciate hearing that.
Johnny the Fox was my 1st Lizzy record. All we heard in the 70's was Boys and Jailbreak, started collecting and was knocked out by all the great tunes on other records. I never see nor do I own Hawkwind records at record shows in Maryland, will have to pony up on ebay I guess, so you found a nice one! Keep up the great videos Rob!
Thanks!!
When Org Music reissues Pain by the Ohio Players I can make sure you get a copy for possible review! Congrats on those great scores, btw
- this was a really entertaining and informative episode!
Thanks!! I appreciate it
Love that Cheap Trick album.
Some interesting albums there. Estates sales are cool as long as you don’t think too much about why you’re there. ✌🏻
Exactly! I hate the ones where it looks like the person wasnt elderly. I usually just leave.
Holy 😱 I could’ve spent days going through the 45s! What a collection.
They were all alphabetical too.
I love that Hawkwind album!
Glad you found some decent albums there. An 'already been picked over' comment is usually a thanks but no thanks from me, but with all those $5 albums available you have to assume there would be several gems to be found. Worth taking a chance on for sure.
“Heaven Tonight” is an excellent Cheap Trick album. I also suggest “In Color” (1977).
My first question wasn’t bout Lemmy, but Did in search of space come with the log book?
Great find, long live the mighty Hawkwind, love love love ‘em!
No log book.
Estate sales are becoming painful these days, but with 45,000 records..don't really need any more....just go out for exercise.
Big St.Louis Blues fan in Montreal,Canada....Let's go Blues !
Cheap Trick Heaven Tonight was always my favorite CT close to the debut, had it on 8 track tracks like On The Radio, High Roller & Hello How are You just a strong album start to finish also impressed with your 80s porn golden era trivia lol
Deniz Tek had a band called Visitors in the early 80’s. Only one album with that name. Like a Doors/Stooges sound. Australian band leftover from Radio Birdland split up…
Thanks for the video. Makes me want to look into estate sales around here
You should, but you need extra time to wait before the sale. If you're not first or one of the first, everything will be picked through. Learn about line numbers, too.
Fun video
The inappropriate covers on those Ohio Players albums are faves of mine...music's even better. Heard a few tunes of that Thin Lizzy, been meaning to check it out. It's a lot to sort through, but fun to hear about the experience and groovy finds. Way better than another review of Revolver.
You ever hear the urban legend that the woman in the cover of Honey was killed in the studio while they were recording
... or Sgt. Pepper... lol
@@parasitesundinismThey claim you can hear her scream on Love Rollercoaster, as if they were able to nail the take AND murder someone simultaneously.
Yeah, but the Peppers vs Help vid was a creative twist.
That's wild...hadn't heard. Kinda dark for such fun music.
I Have That Hawkwind Album the only one I have; Anyone I play this for I always say "Wanna hear something Weird?" first - Thay are never disappointed. What Came first the drugs or this album?
Snowy White? Rogers Waters' Snowy White? Interesting.
Surprisingly Heaven Tonight peaked at # 48 in the Billboard album charts. I thought it was a Top 20 Album for sure.
That is a surprise. I thought it would be much higher, too.
*yikes, I feel as I went through 10,000 records watching this. Thanks for starting with the best record found...*
Cheap Trick certainly had some "dark" songs on their early albums (you mentioned "Auf Weidersehen"); their 1st album has a few, for sure. Looks like a fun and interesting estate sale, even though the pickin's were a bit slim!
It was fun either though it took a lot of looking just to get these mostly common albums.
Came to the comments to say that if you like Heaven Tonight then you definitely should get the first two Cheap Trick albums...but looks like I was very much beaten to that punch.
I have the first one. I don't think I've heard "In Color"
Hard to imagine why, but Capitol has reissued the Duophonic Pet Sounds.🤔🙉
I hope you didn't pay $5 for those trashed records. 'Great video, Sir. THX!
No, I didn't buy the trashed ones.
Estate sales I usually avoid. The other thing that happens is the family hires a company to inventory and price items. And what they don’t cherry pick for themselves is basically overpriced. My best finds just come from garage or community sales where you don’t expect to see records.
I've had better luck at estate sales. Sometimes, there's so much stuff that they just make all albums the same price. They seem more concerned about pricing jewelry, etc.
Cheap Trick was classic for putting the two good looking guys on the front cover and the two goofy looking dudes on the back. THey did this on like 4 or 5 albums i think. (Buddokan, in Color, etc..)
I never noticed that before.
You ever heard of Paul Mawhinney? What do you think of his story and collection?
The Butterfield album is actually their 4th. The Resurrection of Pigboy Crabshaw was the 3rd.
I went to an estate sale that advertised, "hundreds of old records". I went.
After digging through Perry Como, Liberace, Slim Whitman . . . well, you get the idea. I came across an original 1st pressing of Orangutan. How the heck did that end up there?
You never know my friend, you never know.
That's what I always think.
Once I found a 2nd state butcher cover at an antique mall for 8 bucks (with a sticky note that said "as-is") in a box of about 40 crappy records. I almost didn't even bother looking through the box like I typically do, but glad I did.
Never heard of them? Will look them up...
24:25. My sister was a huge Anne Murray fan and of course owned "Hippo" to make a collection complete. I refer to it as Anne"s most embarrassing album.
After hearing your talk about Bobby Moore's Hamburger Song, I had to give it a listen on Spotify. It wasn't familiar to me, but I wonder if perhaps it was taken from kids' jump rope skipping rhymes?
Sounds like a jump rope song or maybe a hand patting song.
I wonder if the good stuff the family took out was also trashed?
Probably 😅
also, you have never made a video reviewing the Elvis Presley soundtrack for the Elvis movie by Austin Butler, that would really be something to watch.
I haven't even seen that movie. Lol. Would rather see the real thing
Maracas? How could you pass that up?
Any comedy albums? That was big in the 70s.
They had some Richard Pryor ones that I already had.
70’s Cheap Trick is good. I don’t think Heaven Tonight was a gatefold. Sunflower is pretty good.
Thin Lizzy -Renegade is a great song.
So I am assuming no Marilyn Manson Mechanical Animals or Antichrist Superstar LP's? Bummer.
I'll take a wild guess. Frampton Comes Alive? I know its rare and all but...
It was there
But if you cut down on your estate sales, then how you gonna find those pristine Steely Dan pressing you so desire?
I've actually sold some to buy records that I want. I've been through at least five "Aja"s at this point.
I totally would've bought that Aja promo off of you on pnthal's auction, had I not already had a clean OG AB cut & the UHQR. 😅
@@R3TR0R4V3 You do know I'm taking the piss? Robert HATES that.
@@crunchyfrog555oh yeah I know, he made that pretty clear a while ago. 😅
I found that Bobby Moore record last week. Looked it up because i suspected it was a man. Confirmed.
My brother has collections of certain bands in the 60s,70s and early 80s.
I KNOW THAT VERSION... "MF punch ya in the mouth..." (Eddie's drunk dad!) You did it justice. 🤣
Thanks!!
Sunflower is a excellent album. I think it's far superior to Pet Sounds in my opinion.
Totally agree. In my opinion has Dennis and Carl’s best work.
I have a copy of the hawkind lp with flight log
Sunflowers a great album if you already don’t like Brian - he’s barely on it. Enjoyable light rock/pop
“MoTab” is the cool way of saying “Mormon Tabernacle Choir.” They’ve re-branded as “CATS” - Choir At Temple Square. I’ve wondered how common MoTab albums are outside utah. Flooded with them here…
I've seen quite a few.
I’m impressed on your knowledge of 80’s porn stars 😂😂 Heaven Tonight is my favorite Cheap Trick album
Estate sales with thousands of vinyls can attract a lot of diggers or almost no one, seems to be quite random or who happens to be free that day and noticed the sale. I always go, that sale looks like a 5plus hr adventure if you collect or sell 45s and 78s.
It took less than a couple hours for me, but I only looked through the albums.
@@RobertFithen Easier, us deep diggers / dealers can't not look at everything, which can often be a waste of time and very tedious, but its the only way to know for sure you did not leave the potential find of the year there.
So your knowledge of records seems to be only surpassed by your knowledge of adult films. 😂 Thanks for the laugh, brother. Your channel is the best!
Thanks!
I have exactly 1 78.
Question: Have u heard of the band Puzzle? I saw them on a Midnight Special TV TH-cam post - I never heard of them, but they were a progressive band / *CHeap Trick > HTonight - GREAT ALBUM (The remaster is xcellent)
Yes. I saw the album at a record store and streamed it. I'm waiting to find a cheaper copy.
Why would anyone keep scratched records? When I buy the farm the buzzards are getting VG+
Hoarding or maybe for the cover.
Best music/review/info channel on TH-cam
Thanks!!
😅😅 You don't seem too enamoured with your haul. At least you'll be able to use this video again in the future when you do a cull video 😊😅😂😂
They were just ok. I will probably get rid of the Visitors album.
went flea market today, mostly garbage.Im always hoping i find louvin bro satan real lp.No luck yet.I did see cherry people lp,was wondering if it was rare collectible.Didnt get it,and very glad when i sampled them
I only have the single with a picture sleeve that looks very similar to the album cover.
I see Mormon Tab choir here alot like pairs of mormons on UK streets nobody dresses here like FBI closest is freemasons and school uniforms (going off at a tangent) you seem the kinda guy not too bothered but at least had a bit of interaction with the other collectors. Super competitive collectors though are a bit of a pain barging in, don't mind proper non dealing crate diggers because they will actually be keeping what they find. We don't really have estate sales here as often house clearance guys pick up everything and dispose of it outside the house so could end up anywhere from auction to a dump shop which makes more exciting for me.
The sale was so large, there was room for everyone for the most part.
I have a theory as to why the Ohio Players album has the huge gouge in it that you say looks like it was done on purpose. Well, the person who spent hard earned money on it took one listen and after hearing those horns and cheesy wah-wah pedal effects went nuts and took his hash pipe and ran it across the records surface, or....
It definitely looks like it was done purposefully with passion. Lol
your porn knowledge is commendable. that hawkwind is awesome when high.cheers!
Thanks! I'm glad someone appreciates that knowledge.
John Leslie was in that too, the movies he later directed were some of my fav of that era
Yeah, leave some for the rest if us, jerk! 🤣🤣🤣
I’ve been to one estate sale in my life. Didn’t buy a thing.
You went to the wrong one.
45s for $3/each is crazy, assuming most of them are standard hits. I like to find 45s when they are $1 (or less) each and completely unsorted. If people care enough to alphabetize them or know enough to price them appropriately, you won't find any steals.
Not only were all of these records (all sizes) alphabetized, they were logged into a database. My favorite price for 45's usually has a slash in it, like 4/ $1.
If you know anything about Billy Preston’s life, the title The Kids and Me takes on a new and disturbing meaning.
Any jazz? 😂😂😂
Actually, no. I think the family got it.
Hello Sir. . Can You help Me with a Johnny Winter Album I have . Your help will be appreciated.
Sure. what is the question?
So you only review rock but no pop, country, easy listening, r&b etc..?
It would have taken less than a minute to look at the titles of my other videos to see that I review all of that.
22:58 - \m/ \m/
You are too good, BUT PLEASE DON,T ''SING''............LOL
@0:25... "I thought I would give other record buyers a chance'... so estate sales are only open to yourself ..unless you don't go?? are you providing a ride to the sale for the potential 'buyers' or something.. what's with the gatekeeper vibe.. . that's a grandiose manner of rhetoric there buddy - hilarious actually how self centered so many people sound. You can't take it with ya when you go.
It means that I don't snatch and grab everything immediately before the next people in line get a chance. You sound like an asshole btw.
