I'm glad to see the outcome of this hearing .. it seems ridiculous that he spent so much time in prison for stealing diapers and milk. It makes you wonder why, and how, they can justify this type of sentence when there are many other people committing horrible crimes that are much more deserving of a sentence like this, and yet time and time again they get away with just a slap on the wrist. I have always been of the opinion that a punishment should fit the crime. I think this gentleman served his time more than enough, and I wish him all the success going forward.

To This one actually brought a tear, seeing several recently before parole board, convicted of brutal murders,a stabbing that 17 yr old was in shower while father stabbed mother 19 times, had 19 1/2 yrs, granted first offense LEGALY ACCOUNTABLE for, and was tearfully testified to by daughterthat he had terrorized mother for years with death threats, and, since she was divorcing, finally. He was to be released 5-6 months later, may '23, and another where left man in closet, 8 yr old son had to testify about witnessing stabbing, just under 20 yrs served. This man undoubtedly lead a tough life, having left school so early to help father work. Didn't even pull knife out, diapers and milk. Here, people take 24 oz beer from Walmart, they are told not to come back till next day, not being first offense, having 2 dui's, other times regularly going in stores walking out w/ things. She got boyfriend to, both drunk, must say, get half gallon of milk, he pushed grocery cart with just that in it out front door of store that is right by cash registers. Police followed, arrested her for having been seen drinking it, overnight jail, court date, time served. Texas.

They ripped my house apart, stole my money, furniture, tv, tools, building materials, and yard equipment. I had lost my family and starting over, so I decided I'd get a house then foster/adopt but they messed it up.
I went to police but since it took six months for them to get to me, I didn't recover anything. My homeowner's rejected my police report, the DA refused to do anything, including making them return any of my belongings. They threw the book at this man over baby products but I get ignored after I'd already lost my children and husband then they allowed the criminals just rob me blind.

The most commonly stolen items are things like diapers, baby food, detergent. But they are not taken from necessity, they are just innocuous and easily transferable. Pop someone's trunk and they have normal household stuff without a receipt, it's not prosecutable.. But it's universally saleable. I am tired of people distorting the facts by claiming somebody got a "life sentence for some minor crime." The fact is that they received a life sentence for a long life of criminal behavior. Just 8% of Americans have at least one felony conviction. You have to work at it pretty hard to get three felony convictions. And we all know that behind every conviction are many crimes that were never prosecuted. It is sad that some people choose a life of crime, but they cannot be allowed to victimize the vast majority of law-abiding citizens in perpetuity.

Your title here….is inappropriate. He committed armed robbery. Doesn’t matter what weapon he used. He blames alcohol and marijuana. He hasn’t finished anything he started. Yet, they let him out. Unbelievable the title you wrote. I’m going to unsubscribe to your channel. These hearings are ridiculous.

I like how yahl be lying not telling the whole story making it seem like he got a life sentence for stealing milk and diapers. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt not to be a liar so I’ll watch it. So I’m going to see a man steal something and get sentenced to life and no other factors were involved well let’s see if you lied.

Although it was a harsh sentence it probably did more good than harm. You never know what he was capable of! He could have ended up killing someone. Wish him well!

Not exactly sure about the "2nd class offender" designation. But from what I have found, repeat offenders in Louisiana get the following: "The person shall be imprisoned for not less than 20 years."
I have no idea what else he may have done but first of all it should be considered that harsh sentencing is usually a result of excessive criminal activity. Consequently, the powers that be (politicians) respond to the tax payers justified complaints by enacting harsh sentences for first offenders in general and repeat offenders in particular!
Before we sit around contemplating on the possible injustice of his sentence, perhaps we need to examine any past criminal activity he may have been engaged in.
Does Louisiana have something similar to: three strikes and you're out," legislation?
Is he a repeat offender with felonies?
He, at one time, seemed quite casual in his attitudes. I need something so I'll just steal it seems to have been his attitude at one time! It is a reasonable assumption that this particular theft may not have been his first rodeo!
Thieves are a blight on society! People like the average everyday working person ultimately have to pay for the cost of a thief. The cost of their thievery gets passed on to the working person who doesn't steal by way of higher prices for goods! If the business that is being stolen from has to add security measures the added cost of security gets passed on to the honest consumer who isn't a thief.
Any business located in a high crime area inevitably will have higher insurance costs which will be passed on to the citizens who frequent the business and are paying customers!
At the end of the day, more information is needed so that our judgements or comments are based upon factual reference rather than the emotionalism of unfairness in sentencing!

The people who are saying it was a unfair sentence have to understand that it wasn’t he’s first offense. And imagine that was your wife being robbed

And what you have to understand is that murderers get less time than that. If he was white he would gave never gotten that sentence! These are the disparities we speak of in the so called justice system when you have a darker skin tone. Utterly ridiculous. Nowadays people are walking right out of Walmart with 70 inch TVs and no one is stopping them.
