Agree. Perhaps LED backlighting in modern monitors is more durable and long lasting than CCFL, as LEDs tend to wear out very slowly compared to fluorescent lamp and bulbs.

The degradation of brightness is probably due to the CCFL for backlight and that was back then the standard.

I use a 30" and 14" and I use it for video. Max brightness is overrated. Also switch to rec 709 color and it should be fine.
