Thanks! Yeah I did some research into a couple of different cultures, a bit of viking/nordic culture, a little slavic culture and some research into the fishing towns in my own country (UK). The results are an amalgamation of those with the rules I've built for the town (eg the sash/belts they wear show certain levels of social standing).
this is so helpful, i love everything you have going so far over the past few years - clothes are intimidating for me but watching this helps me to try for my own designs ♡
This channel is very underrated! You can clearly see all the skill and care that went into this. I love how cohesive all of the designs look, it's very inspiring! Makes you wanna know more about the story and culture behind it. The small details on the sashes, the varied headdresses, and the different silhouettes all sell it! I look forward to seeing more from you! :)
Hi sam. Love your designs. Your insight on materials, how they flow and the shapes they make aorund the body is astounding. I am trying to bring a little more flavour into my costume designs. Do you have any good sources to recommend? (books, websites, etc)
Hey Ignacio, thank you! I love the Skillful Huntsman, and most of the Design Studio Press books, but much of what I draw from comes from watching documentaries, and doing lots of visual research online. Finding those little cultural interests and translating them into my own world at large is one of the things I love most about costume design and world building. The fundamental knowledge of things like shape composition and anatomy are the glue that bring it all together.
Oh thanks. It is very kind of you to have taken the tiem to reply. That is very helpful indeed. I hadn't heard about those sources before. I will certainly check them out. Thanks again!
Awesome, they're all very grounded and interesting. Did you do any preliminary work for these such as research, moodboards and studies?
