"You gotta start somewhere.... the way you get around it (the struggle) is to just jump in. If you need someone to stand behind you and push your hand into the canvas, find somebody! It's fun." Love that!
You are exceptionally talented Kevin. I love how you experiment on video and have it turn out so beautiful. Obviously, you have a very good knowledge of brush work and colour mixing. I never fail to learn something from your videos. Thank you.
Skills is a better word than talent when talking about artists. Artists often get offended by 'talent' because it implies they haven't worked hard to get there. I prefer 'skill' for a different reason, it implies everyone can learn how to paint if they put enough work into it.
I know what you are saying, but as a psychologist, I would argue that you are confusing the concept of talent with the notion of innate aptitude or ability. Talent can be developed and for those who possess some innate aptitude their level of talent can reach greater heights. But, overall, yes. I agree that most people can learn to paint given appropriate learning experiences and practice.
Dr10Jeeps True. It's easy to lose the definition of words. But usually talent is used in the negative way I had in mind. In any case, he's damn good at painting.
Yes he is. I have been painting off and on for over 40 years and Kevin's videos have taught me to be much looser with my brush strokes. Amazing, especially in landscapes, these looser brush strokes convey much greater and more realistic detail. I never get tired of watching his videos and he certainly has inspired me to paint more frequently. Happy painting to you!
Awesome!! I love your instruction Kevin, and I also just love watching a painting from start to finish! Thanks for the lessons, and hours of enjoyment just watching!! Jack Canada
You make me want to be the best I can be! in other words You inspire me! I'm actually going to try this! Wish me luck! This painting is breath taking!!
Love your videos love your paintings . Thanks for shareing your talent. Been watching for over a year now and have learned many techniques. Also... congratulations on your new baby , I saw one of your interviews stating you and your wife were expecting in 2018.wishing you the best.. .
Kevin...your tonal values are always right on....I like the cool and warms of this scene ...and the Brushwork forming the peaks..and snow on the mountain gives a realistic look...please consider a DVD of this...there are so many videos that I see many..myself included requesting DVDs of...this would have been a perfect gift to paint for xmas...tfs
sorry to be off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
It would be so helpful if you showed us your reference photo/study of the painting you're about to do, and also how you take a photo and mix it with other photos to find a good composition.
MindGem Hi, I can understand seeing the reference pic would be of help...as far as using multiple photos and taking elements from each one to create compositions...I think this is a personal thing as an artist...we all see things differently...color etc...with that being said...as long as you understand the basic fundamentals of a balanced composition...you can create anything you like...using The rule of thirds...the central focal point must be on one of the four marks...it's always good to have the eye leading into the pic...that can be achieved with landscapes using a path...road...water...to achieve depth..besides the cool colors in background...having a tree or something in the foreground helps push everything back...there are multiple composition formats...using reference pics...you can take a mountain from one pic...look for something that would look good for the midground...then something for the foreground...again having in mind the rule of thirds and eye stoppers...hope this helps...
every time I try to blend colors I get a messy picture. I don't know how you do it or you get your paint brushes from a Harry Potter shop in diagon ally lol.
He actually only uses liquid white for the sky. He explains this further in his dvds. He leaves everything else dry to put on as little oil and paint as possible
Luke Snow no liquid white. He uses solvent free gel with white on skies to help the blending. The other parts are done on dry canvas. Watch a few vids and you'll find the process moreso. Enjoy
I use a mix of Clear Gel Medium and Titanium White on the sky area only. It helps the colors blend easier. Here is a link to the Clear Gel Medium: paintwithkevin.com/oil-paint.html

andrea piro checkout Kevins website he's got his own brushline. ..and a xmas sale going on...
hey kevin.. did your canvas have a coating of liquid white on it for this process?
Yes he had a coat of liquid white on his canvas or else he wouldn’t be able to blend the paint that freely
Enjoy
Traceur907 no liquid white.
اشكرك جدا جدا تعلمت منك الكثير
Do you first coat the canvas in white paint
I use a mix of Clear Gel Medium and Titanium White on the sky area only. It helps the colors blend easier. Here is a link to the Clear Gel Medium: paintwithkevin.com/oil-paint.html
