Dan's enthusiasm and playful goofiness will be greatly missed. Each coast needs at least 1 kind of person with this kind of energy. Which is rare. Ryan Davis and Dan Ryckert are cut from a similar cloth in this way.

Watching Dan evolve from the obviously intelligent but basically feral child that he was when he started was a really remarkable thing. It's not so rare to see somebody who has huge gaps in their knowledge and who has never tried e.g., a tomato (still, WTF?) but to somehow also be so open and curious about the world seems almost unique. Such a nice and generous and deeply fucking weird guy, it's been a rare pleasure to see his journey over these years. I hope he finds an outlet for some writing too, it's been a bit of a bummer that GB has moved away from that.

Man, all of my favorite GB stuff has featured Dan. Metal Gear Scanlon, Mario Party Party, Shenmue, All Systems Goku.

Hard disagree. The best thing I can say about Dan is he grew from "guy who, if saw he was in a video, I'd sigh and turn it off" to "guy who know how to shut the fuck up enough not to ruin a video." The Mario Party Party series is the only thing I can say he was responsible at all for the success of which was a positive.

Really sad to see Dan go. I was shocked when I heard, but then I heard he was leaving for a job at the WWE and it all made sense. That's probably about the only thing he would have ever left the site for. GB won't be the same without him, but at least we have many many hours of Dan content on the site to revisit. Good luck Dan!

I didn't feel close to this gutted for any other departure since Ryan's passing. Gonna miss the hell out of Dan on GB, but hats off to him for continuing to chase his dreams.

At approximately 1:45:00 Dan hits Vinny on the head with the Funky Shop and then slams it into his own teeth.
it's kinda crazy coming back to this...outside of Dan having come back....nobody in the Mario Party Parties still works for Giant Bomb anymore. it's a bit strange.
Dan came in at a time when the GB crew were at their darkest. The loss of Ryan Davis left a unfillable void, and the boys were dare I say, veering in to a somewhat cynical place. Brad also refused to cut his hair. It was a mess! We were all hurting, even as fans, and when they announced the arrival of Dan and Jason, I will admit I was ready to hate those two guys. Dan didn't help himself by immediately fighting with Jeff that Terminator 3 is better than Terminator 1 on the Bombcast. It was hard to like Dan at first and easy to hate him, but it wasn't until he and Jeff played a Kinect Ninja Turtles game that I truly understood what he brought to the table. The guy is an unflinchingly positive and honest dude, and he seemed at times to be impervious to cynicism. He decided to have fun with the objectively awful Turtles game, where as Jeff look absolutely defeated and uninterested, and THAT ended up creating magic between them.
Dan and Jeff had some of the best play off eachother moments the site has ever seen, and it really was captured well in the Mario Party Party series. I had a subscription for several years during the era when they first started doing those, and I think it was largely a result of Dan being the counter balance to Jeff. That's impressive, to say the least, as Jeff is a character so bright and shining. It took an equally bright star top balance it out.
Man first I had to watch Dan leave Game informer and now Giant Bomb!? Stop breaking my heart!! Goodluck Dan, we'll miss you!

Edit: Actually thinking about it, I think it may be down to the fact that I am a similar age group to the majority of the crew and feel like I have grown up (and not grown up) with them.
@@sircoynie Same here. When Drew left, I was excited because he was doing his own thing and we still get to see him. With Dan leaving, we won't see him regularly. I hope he returns for some videos/podcasts, CT isn't that far luckily.

Damn, Dan! (iel!) I admit I was harsh on Dan when he first joined but he kept a charming inquisitiveness toward each game he saw over the years that I think continued some of Ryan Davis charmful demeanor from earlier podcasts to when he first joined. Anyway, I hope some of my younger more trolly shitty comments weren't too divisive. The only one I can really think of was "Does Dan ever stfu?" but his questions about game's mechanics and openness to each game world won me over. Take care!!!!!

Guys... Dan never ate his hat like he said he would 3 years ago or whatever.
The Shenmue Endurance run and Metal Gear Scanlon are probably my 2 favorite Dan Ryckert productions. Oh and This Is The Run. Honestly, This is The Run might be my number 1. Contra was great, but Contra Hard Corps now thats a fucking video game right there.
I know it would've been difficult, but I wish they got the same crew to play one more time :(
