THANKS for the intro. I have a new melodeon, bought second hand - 2 flappy sticky reeds already, so I thought I'd been sold a dead parrot but now I'm just going to try the temperature change...and play it in a bit, before I get all returny. I live in a pretty cold, humid house which could well be a factor. Thanks for the info! And great soundtrack.
Glad it helped. A warmer room overnight might make a difference for a sticky reed, but don't leave the accordion next to a radiator as the wax holding the reeds in melts easily. If not then you need to open it up and have a look but that might create an issue for a return. Take care 👍
Awesome video. I have a middle E stuck on my accordion. If I play for about 10 minutes it starts to play. I will give this a try. But will first try the warm room method first. Note that my accordion is about 5 years old. It is a BELL accordion made in the DINO BAFETTI factory in Castelfidardo Italy. Aldo Mencaccini sold it to me just before he closed up shop.
Yes! Many thanks for posting this - gave me the confidence to have a go and delighted that I got the note to work again! Had a bit of trouble re-fitting the reed block in getting the two reed/musette setting to work, but should have paid more attention when I took it out. Had another go and it worked. Hardest thing was sourcing a feeler gauge. Thanks, again!
I have a scandali and the lowest Bb key when I have 2 voices (button register) and I pull the bellow ,i hear the one voice and when I close below i hear two voices... can you help?
If you sit stil a few minutes, do you still here voices? Just kidding. That means that one of the reeds of that voice is stuck. Probably some dust or rust. Try to loosen that reed.
Sir- thanks for this nice video. However- may I suggest and explain a few things very respectfully . (i) Music is not required in such videos.... it should have been only the sound of the affected reed (ii) In case a reed tongue is stuck due to dry wax or due to some foreign material in the tongue and its plate, or if reed tongue has shifted its position due to its lose 'rivette' or heat (rare), or a reed leather valve stuck outside/or inside due to moisture (if accordion played in wet weather) etc. Now let's see some solutions 'after' the reed block is taken out. But before that, plz identify and mark the affected white/or black key by cutting a cell tape in arrow shape and place it on that key, the arrow giving direction for 'inner' or 'outer ' reed when bellows are stretched out or pulled in. After this , blow in/out into the reed block hole to check which reed is stuck and needs attention ( Never mind your breath moisture-just wipe it off if any. Many professional repairers do it often) . Next, pick a used shaving blade, break it into half - 'length' wise and check if the reed is stuck by lifting the tongue gently with the blade and release it 3-4 times till a nice sound like 'tun' is heard. This will/can remove any foreign object like dry wax etc. You may also slide the blade carefully between the tongue and reed plate. If valve gets fixed due to moisture , gently lift it up and release it---clean the reed plate with soft cotton (NOT with cotton swab). If the inside valve is stuck, pick up a thin screw driver and release it. If the 'rivette' is loosened , then take out the reed, align the reed with the blade by sliding it in the space between the tongue and the plate, listen to the 'tun' sound carefully and then carefully hammer the rivette by placing it on an iron base. Finally- re wax the reed if removed earlier, blow out or in to check if the problem is fixed and reeds sound as they should -reassemble your accordion and play along . Good Luck. Caution-please do not fiddle with accordion if not'mechanical' minded and not confident of yourself. Regards.
This looks like great information but I would have preferred it without that music in the background and instead a commentary about what you're doing. Everyone has different tastes in tunes of course, but to me that was a bit of a dirge.
I’ll make another video in future without the music, it was just stock music that google made available for the video. It’s not me playing. I thought it was dark and artistic but it’s too dangerous 😉 I can’t change it now but with so many complaints about it I know how to make a better video next time. Feedback appreciated. 👍 a’ the best 😎👍
The background music was simply ghastly. It was so awful it started to get me very angry and I had to switch it off. It was the most awful mess I have ever heard.
Screw the repairs... I stayed till the end for the music. It's simply mesmerizing.
This allowed me to avoid opening a new instrument - a warmer room did the trick, thanks
Great to hear something positive came from it 👍 thanks for the comment 👍

Accordion wars, may the belloe be with you
I've got a reed that has a fuzzy distorted sound to it. And ideas how to fix that ?
No expert but I think it is the valve flap that's causing the rough sound solution is to replace it
Where can I buy the wax?

@@CharlieAbel Glad to hear it wasn't you playing Charlie, I was beginning to worry about you!
@@jamesrindley6215 😂🤣 cheers 🍻
This video would have been better if you would have said something, if you would have explained everything Sir.
I don't like the music behind. Gbu
Ok I’ll take that on board and rethink this video 🤔
*What's with the Vincent Price horror film music?
👍 for the cleaning tip*
Better take the accordion to a proper repair shop where someone with experience and the right tools can do it
Edward c Some of us like to do our own work, you might say making a virtue of necessity.
Background music adds the distraction. Might avoid the music.
The music is abysmal.
Aye 🤣 Very dark places the accordion can take us. Stay in the light we must 😎🪗😉
The background music was simply ghastly.
It was so awful it started to get me very angry and I had to switch it off.

Messiaen's not for everyone
Another interesting rebuild. th-cam.com/video/BlgtCZDOjsk/w-d-xo.html
This uninforming and just plain dumb Jim
Jim Tobler nice comment. Have a nice life.
