    Okay when someone says “we should include disabilities in the sims” I’ve always been like “yeah but there will be SOOOO many issues with doing it. I’m fine if they don’t.” But then I saw the sim with knee braces and a cane just like me. I didn’t realize how much it means to me to see myself if the game.

      Yeah! You deserve to be seen! Personally, I would be totally happy if they added, like, mental illness, too because honestly, I feel like representation is a great way to humanize and normalize the people who have them! I'm pretty sure there was also a study or statistic out there that mentions increased exposure and interaction with different types of people help make someone more open-minded and tolerant of others!

      @@spuilloh2637 I really hope you were giving examles of how ea would do a shit job of representing mental illness and dont genuinely think those traits provide any kind of representation...

      @@spuilloh2637 just a quick note, the neat trait is nothing like actual OCD. It's a lot more complicated than that, most OCD has nothing to do with cleanliness at all. It's kind of a frustrating misconception, because OCD is actually really debilitating (mine was until I did a lot of CBT work over many years to retrain my brain). It causes insane amounts of anxiety and depression, and also can lead to hoarding due to increased emotional attachment to objects.

    It’s sad that The Sims team brags about how inclusive they are but all of the disabled people don’t get represented and have to rely on mods.

      Leah NoLiah I agree with you somewhat but they should at least include in-game wheelchairs

    • @electraheart7745
      @electraheart7745 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I imagine the same reason they don’t have actual height adjustments in the game is similar as to why they might not have certain physical disabilities in the game people with different degrees of scoliosis people like me who have crooked feet and walk really slow the list is endless but I don’t really fault them for that. However they should have had wheelchairs and ramps a long ass time ago real prosthetics too since it seems to work like an overlay and doesn’t change the sims actual polygon count etc.

      @Leah NoLiah You sound like an asshole. People with disabilities shouldn't have to download and manage free modded content just to feel represented. So many disabilities can make it HARD to work with things like mods. "Sounds like a them problem" is a very stupid and ignorant thing to say.

    I am a disabled Simmer, I've been playing since the beginning when I was around 3. When I was 2 and a half I was diagnosed with dwarfism, and whenever I put myself in the game it was never accurate unless the Sim would always be a child. When Grant posted that they were wanting to eventually do it, I got so excited to actually see some real representation. Disability isn't a bad thing, it can be beautiful and it should be represented. I'm so thankful for these mods existing.

It's not a disability but its something I miss from sims 3. I'm a hairy woman myself. Just naturally and I would love to be able to create myself properly).
    I also remember seeing neurodivergent and mentally ill personality CAS traits a while back that I was super excited about. The creator said that they put lots of care and detail into making them accurate and thats why they took a while. That was so cool. @MagicalAuroraDream 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ChepiFaerydae Yes, it totally would! I mean, as a white cisgender female I have a lot of privelage I don't think about much. However, I do find myself thinking about disability quite a lot, as the ability to see perfectly is a privelage I was not born with. As my Diversity in Psychology professor put it, those privelages we have are the ones we think least about, and those we do not have are those we think about most. For example, I never thought about making a sim more representative of folks who are transgender, nonbinary, gender non-conforming, etc. However that update still blew me away. Similarly, I feel like people without disabilities don't think much of how amazing it would be to have them in an update, but would be similarly impressed by their inclusion.
      If it takes a few more years for them to add disability, that's fine, as long as they don't forget about it, and as long as they approach it with as much tact and grace as they appear to have approached sex and gender.
      NOTE: I hope this post is worded okay, and isn't offensive ... I can only assume how impactful the sex/gender update was for people, and I'm sorry if my comparison/example fell flat, but it's the best I can think of. Have a great weekend!

      I know most of those people are not like me so I don't agree with them but I have hypocondria and can't control myself by thinking all illnesses (including mental ones) and disabilities are very scary (it's what my mental illness makes me think, even with a cold I think I'm going to die) but I still think its important to have those things in game but they should make it so we can turn it off. I had the slice of life mod and uninstalled it because the sims getting sick would trigger me into thinking I was sick and that my life was in danger.

Also some suddle autism stuff like some kind of reword trait or something that makes your sim feel uncomfortable in public, and give then animation of stimming would be amazing

    OMG I am so down for this .it just randomly came up of my feed and I'm so excited to see this is even a conversion in the community.I have been spending the last few years "tuning the Fiat" that's Gearhead references in regard to the fact that I have been attempting to figure out what has been broken in my game for ages and only recently have I discovered a number of issues in terms of file placement and what have you that I have been carrying over from computer to computer and save file to save file not knowing that these issues were even there. So I've never really had much open Brain space to even think about this direction for creating my Sims I'm so glad I found this video.

    The knee braces make me so happy! I have bad knees (well bad joints in general) and I have to wear knee braces from time to time. It used to just be when I exercised but it’s become more frequent (Sucks because I’m only twenty and I can’t always do things others can). Now when I exercise I have to wear ankle wraps, and I’m looking at stuff for wrists and elbows too bcus I know we’re going down that path pretty soon. I wish this stuff didn’t have to be custom content to accurately represent our sim selves.

    This is pretty awesome despite looking kinda glitchy and the wheelchairs looking like generic hospital wheelchairs. I'm glad to finally be able to have more accurate representation in TS4 for my sim, and I hope there will be more modern wheelchair options available in the future. It would be really nice if EA actually cared and took the initiative to add disabilities to the game without having to mod it though. Even if it was a pack you had to purchase, I'm sure a lot of people would buy it and it would be a win-win

    This is such a good idea! There should be stuff like this in the sims and they should add learning difficulties too! I think that would be interesting to see!
    I wish I could get mods ps4, its a real shame the mods you have mentioned are really intresting. I think would add to the game alot especially if the sims team already included it in the game it would be more involded with a bigger spectrum of people. It will also have an even bigger impact on the community I feel it would make it more inclusive and make the community feel more involded in the sims world as well as getting involved with other simmers.

    Disabled person here, and I find this concept really bizarre. The Sims is an idealised version of life, and disabilities aren't ideal, I would be "normal" in a heartbeat if that was an option. I have a history of severe mental illness and a connective tissue disorder, I'm not sure how they could be portrayed and I wouldn't want to play with those aspects if they existed.

    I don’t remember where I found this mod, but there is a trait for pets that you can get that makes it a service animal. The mod even comes with a collar for the pet and a free reward trait that you can apply to your sim. Sims with the service animal reward trait will get a positive moodlet around an animal with the SA trait added to it :))

    Found this vid as I was searching for wheelchair options for George from Stardew Valley. Already found necrodog's, tbh, but hadn't heard of any of the rest of these! the left/right separate blind eyes will specifically be useful for personal characters I have, and the others in general are very good.
    I'm largely invisibly disabled, and have found my modded representation through a bunch of custom Traits. Base game/EA "Gloomy" kind of works as a representation of depression, BARELY. but things like chronic fatigue etc had little option. But modders have made Traits for IBS/Chrohn's, Spoonie, bipolar, learning difficulties, etc. Between that and mods that allow more Traits, I can represent my issues without that being the ONLY interesting thing about my sim. The bottom left gets more than a little cluttered with moodlets, and you'll pretty much never just be Fine, but that's... well, fine with me, lol.

    I think we need visual disability representation in the sims 4 but sims having disabilities should also change the game play in some way like deaf sims communicate using sign language and diabetic sims have to give themselves insulin maybe if they even add a separate drop down menu in the create a sim menu that gives you choices for several disabilities and each one has a trait with it that alters the sim’s behavior and gameplay especially making it so sims can have multiple disabilities at once would be awesome.

    I don't understand why anyone would be against disabilities in SIMS. If you don't like it, don't use it? You literally design each sim. You may never use that one pair of shoes on any of your sims- doesn't mean it shouldn't be there. Doesn't mean everyone won't... I literally can't understand why anyone would say no.

    we have a little bit of rep now in the form of continuous glucose monitors and in ear hearing aids. but I really hope we get more , I have cc that looks like surgical scars(vertical chest scar, abdominal keyhole scars etc) ,would be an easy thing for Sims to add . I would be thrilled to see prosthetics and can see it being one of the easier ones too. But I think things like wheelchairs may never be properly implemented, I'm fairly sure it would require a full overhaul of the movement system, it would need a revamp of how Sims 'reach items' and would need a ton of animation work . would love to see it, but don't see EA Caring that much

    One of the biggest complaints I've seen about the Sims 4 has been the lack of in-depth game play with the actual Sims. I think that putting in the opportunity for disabled Sims would both allow for more inclusivity as well as allow for more nuanced game play. It'd be a win/win situation.

    • @babybunny3002
      @babybunny3002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope once they finally move onto the sims 5 the customization options are greatly improved. Soooo many features they've been pushing off should be more than doable by then. Height, disabilities, vitiligo, heterochromia, growable beards.. shoot like. ITS A LIFE SIM. Representation is important period but I mean... you're playing as a person meeting people and going about their life. Seems like a given to have as much variety as possible to try to be semi realistic to real life. Like sure, I understand why they wouldn't add shit like loads and loads of variety for teeth or visibly sagging skin cause while it is a common and everyday thing, those are so tiny but they'd require so much effort to get it right. But like.. having a few alternative animations to accommodate for varied heights/mobility? That gotta be more than doable. I know for damn sure if I don't see a good majority of those options OFF RIP in the next entry I won't be buying. I'm tired of EA's business practices atp 😮‍💨
