The album this song is from "Brand New Age" is a really super album & one of my favourite punk rock/new wave albums , it was released in 1980 incidentally.. The UK Subs are in my opinion a really super band. Fantastic. I was so lucky to be a teenager in the late 1970s & to have gotten into all this super music. At 60 I fully appreciate just how good this music is.
@@turquoisejellyfish5893 BLITZ were THE absolute stand out punk band in 1981/2....Nidge on lead guitar was brilliant, very hard edge sound, almost violent.....check out tracks like ''Warriors'' and ''Fight to Live'' from the 4-track EP. Will blow you away.
Charlie Harper predicting all our current problems all those years ago! Charlie you are a LEGEND! I had the priveledge of putting him up in my pub in Bristol years ago. Like a dickhead I never took any pics or got him to sign my LP's!

Amazing Singer/songwriter from our pUnK days! FABULOUS Frontman of a band, so humble and down to earth always got time for the fans! Absolute Legend Charlie Harper! dx
It’s Top of The Pops, where no on was allowed to play live, they had to lip sync. Seeing that punk was rooted in authenticity, it’s always a bit surprising to see this UK Subs performance...but it’s one of the great songs to come out of The UK punk scene and it foretold a truth that we all can bear witness too. Fkn incredible, unforgettable track 🤘🏻💀
I find it odd that in an era after disco how punk stepped in. Im sure in the US it was different but damn soo many uk82. Bands popped up. In 1982 my mom was preggo wit me and wouldnt be til April 1983 til I broke free
By the time Top of the Pops discovered punk rock this is all we were left with. Has there ever been an organisation more adept at destroying the culturally relevant stuff and hanging on to the stuff that no-one gives a fuck about? Just before the Rolling Stones made their recording debut in 1963, they applied for a spot on BBC Saturday Club (a radio show) and were rejected because their singer sounded "too black". Still, plenty of Robbie, Stormy and the cutting edge of that young punk Jools Holland to salivate over between now and 2050. Bravo BBC.
When punk first emerged I seem to remember the whole point being that it was all about primitive raw energy, everything being done on a shoestring with by street kids with little or no musical experience, made up for by their intensity attitude, kicking back against the music establishment and rejecting the musical virtuosity of established bands as self indulgent. The idea of a guitar solo would’ve been anathema to true punk rockers in the early days. The problem was, they were unable to prevent their own musical skills from improving.
It blows my mind the stuff that was accepted on mainstream television when it's so subversive by today's standards. Top of the Pops, and he's talking about "the soldiers of Islam loading their guns" and "burning suns setting in the Western world" and being "stuck in the middle of the Yankees and the Russians".
This was in 1980 and Charlie Harper was already 36 years old at the time. 44 years later he is still out there doing it. 80 this year. Incredible

Best ever back then was Blitz with ''Voice Of A Generation''.
@@gregjones-x8c I am not familiar with that song & I have never heard of that band. But there were so many good songs at that time.

Prophetic, more relevant today than 41 years ago

The Exploited also appeared and played Dead Cities... Punk on ToTP was rare but not unheard of. Punks Not Dead!
I like what Stiff Little Fingers did when they performed on Top of the Pops.
Only the presenters of TOTP were allowed to play live ;-)
@@Chaoitcme and Bob Geldof, playing a Candelabra,,,lol. Must be an Irish Thing . 😁😁
Rigid Digits mate . ✌✌
I migliori anni della mia gioventù dal 1977 al 1983.

Loving the Cockney Rejects leaping around having a laugh right hand side of the stage ha ha ha ha
???dunno where the rejects are....last time I saw them with the subs they were jumping around to 'teenage'
Saw them at Manchester polytechnic back in 1982 👍
Class! Thanks for posting.
Charlie Harper's voice. 👍👍
Really great
This song ..Close to the present times
They could all play
What up with the presenters strangulation grip on that girl??
British humor...
That TOTP place was rife with PeedO's back in the day. Jimmy Savile being the most famous of them.

Great song, but looking at DLT's behaviour here... shades of Saville
Hand around the throat? I mean. Really?
