I will spend genuine money on Cat with a fucking machine gun. He will be uber and his power and tankiness will be absurd. Only problem is his AOE is short but he makes up with how far he fires.
I recall seeing a japanese video about why some units stand closer than they should: loosely summarized it has something to do with framerate. If I'm understanding correctly, the game running at 30fps means that the faster something moves, the more they 'lose' possible distance that would have been there if the game ran at 60. I don't know if this is an adequate explanation but words are hard haha.
Lucas IV I left a comment explaining why I think it happens. I program a lot of 2D games and I’m 99% sure I know why it happens so check my comment out if you want
The easiest explanation I can give for the speed outrange thing is that the game operates by ticks and frames, so if a speed value is too high, the game has to skip over some range values since the game doesn't tick fast enough. the unit will only stop at it's proper range if the game ticks at the exact right time for the unit to stop, and the game will register a stop. This is why when you stack dragons and they all stop at the base, they will likely either all be lined up perfectly or with little distance between each other, while if you stack manic lions, the lions are all FAR from being lined up perfectly. This is again seen in a video where somebody hacked a Maglev cat's speed to increasing speeds, and every single increase has the maglev go randomly deeper with random intervals of regular range, and eventually fully clipping through both the enemies and the base itself. Hope that helps
Just to know, the first what (red bear) is called red malice, and appears in old guys in the city The second what (alien dark emperor santa) is weirdly named 432 and appears in christmas in space And the famous dog with the frickin machine gun is named bang bang and appears in Go! Go! Graduates Hope this helps foro anyone who didnt know these
The reason why units who are faster move past this range is probably because their code will have them move x number width until an enemy is within their range. X represents the number of pixels they move per frame and its higher with higher speed. Because x is not = 1 for most characters they will move anywhere between 0 and x pixels beyong their maximum range closer to enemies. I’ve programmed games before and this seems like the likely answer. I hope this helps!
This'll probably be buried, but My theory: For each speed, a unit moves 15 range per second. so 2 speed = 30 range per sec, etc. Since there are 30 frames per second, a unit moves 0.5 range per frame, per speed. So 2 speed = 1 range per frame, 3 = 1.5, etc. Assuming that calculations for range/ when to stop, etc. are done once every frame. Take a unit with 10 speed = 5 range per frame. If the unit encounters an enemy that it outranges by 3, for example. For example, if the frame right before the one the unit encounters the enemy, the unit is 4 range away (from the enemy range). Next frame, the unit is -1 range away. The game does not “notice” the unit is already within range of the enemy, since it does not compare ranges between frames. The unit enters the enemy range and gets hit. If, this time, the frame right before, the unit is 7 range away. Next frame, it is 2 range away. This time it stops, does not move into enemy range and does not get hit. Chill cat has 9 speed = 4.5 range per frame. It encounters Scissoroo, outranging it by 1. Looking at the frame right before again: ex: it is 3 range away. Next frame, it is -1.5 range away, got hit. If the frame before, it was 5 range away, next frame, it is 0.5 range away. It stops, does not get hit. Actually, if chill cat was between 4.5 and 5.5 range away in the frame before, it will not get hit. If it was between 1 and 4.5, it will (If it were less than one, chill cat already stopped). If chill cat was randomly spawned, this is why it is so unlikely that chill cat will outrange scissoroo. But Drama cats have 7 speed = 3.5 range per frame. If it encounters Teacher Bear, it outranges it by 5. If the frame before, it was 7 range away, it would be fine. Below 5 range, it would have already stopped. There is actually no way for drama to ever “glitch” into Teacher Bear’s range. This explains why drama so consistently outranges the bears. This is just my theory, I haven’t checked it on any other cats.
Lol I love this, i learned a lot. I enjoy all of your videos because I learn a lot even if it's just gameplay there's a lot to observe and a lot going on.
The reason speed makes you closer is because every frame or your units move a little bit and if someone who has 405 range moves more then 5 then they will occasionally stand below 400 range
This would be the perfect video, if not by the fact it took 3 months to produce Also, love the SFX the text does when it pops up, would love to see more of it in the future uwu
Lucas why did you use jojo at 4:22. bad boy. I thought we already talked about this >:( no using jojo or PC gets stronger. But anyways, nice vid. I think it would've been worth mentioning that 350 range is also a range that can be used over higher ranged units in certain scenarios such as No Return Flights, Weeping dunes, Caliban's keeper, basically any stage with LD units. Other than that, seems fine. Can't want for that Jizo vid
Hey, thanks for making a video about this. I think I raised a lot of hoot about standing range across several discords but didn’t go into: what should people remember?
I would've thought things with 460 range would be important enough to put in the video, seeing as that's a staple for uber generalists nowadays with things like the SLOTH and Master A, unless I missed something.
I had this weird thing on 50 degrees hotter: I would send out a maglev to kill an oncoming brollow, and the brollow and maglev would sometimes just kill each other, and sometimes the maglev would die. do they have the same range? speed? i know maglev has a 1 frame attack animation, so brollow does too? i already beat the level but im interested.
The reason why master a has 451 range is to counter bahamut (who has 450 range like mention) another case would be corrupted psycho with i.m face who outrages corrupted psycho by 1 and the inverse with lil nyadam who outrages camelle by one
After watching this video a question popped up in my mind which gets asked frequently: Which gacha unit should I true form first? Could be a nice video topic.
@@LucasIVYT that's true if you wanted to make video on spending np it might be better to wait until all units have unlockable talents for now it's quite obvious that rodeo has the highest priority because of relic cyclone. Balancing? Lmao some units became more broken because of np cancan: double money, more damage and hp, a new target or fishman with slow resist and bahamut speed. About new gacha units being released I'm not sure but it might be nice to talk about units like cameraman, cancan, fishman, sanzo, bathtub, seafarer, Icat, pizza cat. The key units, the meta.
cats go all the way up to enemy, maybe the area of the attack, if your meatsheilds up front are in the right position, your units can outrange enemies, barley.
Could be important to note that when a unit and enemy have similar standing ranges where the cat dies due to speed(Chill vs Scissoroo as displayed in the video), if the Chill fails to outrange the Scissoroo it will ALWAYS fail to outrange and die until the Scissoroo is repositioned in some way, which is also displayed in the video. This happens because the unit has to travel the same distance every time from their spawn position with the same speed and the current position of the enemy causes the Cat to overlap it’s range due to speed, killing itself in the process. However, this means if you can cause Chill(or any other unit with a similar enemy interaction) to outrange the Scissoroo in it’s current position, every Chill Cat you will spawn will also outrange it until the Scissoroo moves in some way.

The reason Master A stands at 451 range is for Anti-Bahamut Cat reasons.
if he stands at 450 he can still reach bahamut
