And that's something that the anime does wrong, in the manga, goku didn't have time to "I'm sorry king kai, I couldn't think of anywhere else to bring him" it, was *pop* *BOOM*, no banter inbetween.

He could've done Namek, Yardrat, or King Kai's Planet. And King Kai's Planet had the least amount of Casualties. So he took him there. TFS does dumb Goku, and it's funny, but he DID actually think this one fully through.
Fun fact: the Cell jrs didn’t explode like that in the manga and are still alive because of their regeneration. Also they only show up again in super under the watchful eyes of 17.

I would rather say that Gohan DOES realize that, and THAT'S what scares him, and is why he hates it. He hates that, in the moment, he DOES enjoy it. Once the moment is over, he's horrified by it, and the reason it took him so long to transform was because he was rebelling against turning into that, because he's afraid that one of these times (quite possibly THIS time), he's just going to stay like that. That he'll just snap and lose everything that makes him a good person, and just be stuck as a cruel, sadistic person for the rest of his life.

Gohan has a great relationship and respect for Goku. That wouldn't be the case if Goku never spends time with them. Finally, for a kid thats secretly an alien from a planet conquering race who lived in the woods for a majority of his childhood, and spent the rest of it learning how to be human and train to save his friends, I'd say he's done pretty good parent-wise. After all, being a parent is about doing the best you can with what you have and what you know.
