When you're such a geek that you can name all of the mechanical pencils shown in the intro... I love my kuru toga alpha gel, and I've recently ordered a zebra delguard, Tombow olno knock (metal one), and a kuru toga advance... needless to say, I'm a huge stationery geek.

You should’ve mentioned that Uni Kuru Toga lead also slightly rotating everytime the tip touches the paper. This resulting the tip of the lead never angled but always writes in an uniform thickness even if we changing the grip. I have one, it is amazing eventhough it is not breaking the bank at all. I love that mech-pen so much!

erickmojojojo, the Kuru Toga is awesome. But the rotating mechanism is useless to me, since I turn the pencil manually as I write. That’s why I prefer the Zebra Delguard. Nonetheless, the Uni Kuru Toga is great if you don’t do what I do.

I was wondering if you had a link or something for an eraser refill for my Pentel P205, I am aware that you do not have the pencil on your site, but I have searched on amazon and have found nothing. The P205 from the day I first got it which was yesterday, is amazing, immediately after getting it, i was just amazing, my friend said the lead breaks easily but I have had no problems, sketching, graphing, and writing is so fun with the thing. And I want to be able to use it for a long time.

My go-to these days is the Kokuyo. It's only problem is the mechanism to extend the lead. It is definitely nowhere as precise as the Pentels. Unfortunately cannot easily get a Pentel twist erase here!

I have the Rotring 800, 600, and the Rapid Pro mechanical pencils. They are very premium pencils, being made of metal. Because of their high build quality, they are also known for engineering and technical work. For everyday writing, the 800 and 600 series are sometimes too heavy when writing for long times. However they do allow you to use less pressure when writing. For my preference the Rapid Pro is the middle ground, being made of metal and easy in the hand. The round sides and lighter mass allows the best experience when writing or drawing.

I wouldn't bother too much with ordering from JetPens, as you can get the exact same thing from amazon for about half the price. As far as capped pencils with a shaker mechanism, I have looked at a lot of pencils and haven't found one. So I guess either some googling is in order or you'll have to decide what's more important. For me personally, I value aesthetics over features, so I would go with the cap.

I tried to use fine gel tip pens in the field, one drop of water or sweat and you end up with a huge botch blotched rough drafting that no one can read. Pencils eliminate that.
So, I used wood pencils and carried the sharpener. Not very efficient. Multiple pencils and end up with the occasional pixie pencil drop pile on the floor or the shavings. More annoying is that when you get some that wood pencils that have been stressed and every time you sharpen them the lead falls off, ARGHHH!!
So I switched to mechanical pencils. .5 and all is well. Field work the pipe slide types are the only way to go. In the office, Graphgear .7 and .3 make anything look professional, very professional.
Have had more than a few clients ask, "are you an artist (or draftsman)?" because the rough field layouts are so presentable. Right then they have in their mind you're a professional and the right choice for their project.
I tried the cheap Dollar Store, Big-Lots pencils when they had them. Annoying, lead falls out occasionally but what is more annoying is that they often extend too much lead, snap!, extend, snap!...waste of time.

If I had to choose one,I would pick the Pentel Orenz, before you leave, hear me out!,or Pentel Orenz Rubber Grip! I would love the Pentel Orenz Nero (Lead extends itself, plus good material!) I would love a kuru toga, pilot mogulair, zebra delguard, and Pentel Sharp Kerry, but for school,we use pens now but do need pencils for drawing diagrams in science and graphs in math, stuff like that. So,the needle tip is great, plus it’s retractable so your things don’t get poked. Its also slim, which is nice, but that’s just a personal preference! The lead lasts longer and breakage is prevented because of the pipe, and the price isn’t too bad for something I know I’ll be able to use for a Long time for school. However, for everyday use I’d totally get the Pentel Sharp Kerry because the inside mechanism is metal and it looks really good, and will last a really Long time! Some people have said they have ones 40 years old still working!

Any fans of Faber-Castell Grip-matics? These have automatic-advance lead mechanism. you just need to keep writing for the nib to extend out. As the lead sleeve pushes against the paper, it pulls the lead out. In India, these are less than a dollar.

I find the Del Guard kinda redundant. well more of a crutch since you can learn to not be heavy handed, it just takes time, it ma y a short amount of time, or a long amount of time, but either way you are going to learn to not be heavy handed.
