Any other Aussie's freaked out by the accuracy of this? I totally thought I was saying the words with a proper 't' sound on the end until seeing this 😂😂
Its hard for to understand about aussie language ou, oi, etc even ive conversation from australian. What should i do for i can unders an easily? Pls help. Tnx.
the thing is i am half turkish half moroccan and am born in germany, live and speak fluently and well. but I'm also good at English. The thing is why I usually have everything spelled out as an Australian. Although we have british english Now I understand why my teacher corrects me during the speech
I'm Australian and it's a bit funny watching this because I didn't realise how true this was. Although, I do tend to say "prin-tah" instead of "prin-er". Not sure why. Could be because I'm from Perth? I know that the Australian accent differs a little bit depending on which state you're from.
This is actually really fascinating to discover I already do all of these as a lifelong resident of southern California. We totally avoid full stop Ts, especially in combination with n. Like, "Dude, I almos' missed my appoin'men'." Even when we DO use a full T, it's almost never a T sound, but rather a D. We wouldn't say "I'll get the car started," it sounds more like "I'll ge' the car starded." It's not a full T for "start", but definitely the muted T: eg "star' the car, I'll be righ' (said like "ride") ou'." And it's so subtle I never noticed it before. But I think that's one of the things that made me feel so at home during my first visit to the NSW area; my Angelino English has lazy slurring to it just like Aussie English does here. I'm planning to move to the Newcastle area with my husband and very much want to assimilate my accent. Studying these videos is going to make that goal much easier, so thank you for this! (Just wandering around my husband's local Coles as he showed me around had residents double-taking and staring at me whenever I spoke and I could do without that lol)
Hi. I like your video, mate! I’m a Japanese guy who learnt English in Aus. And many of the natives I’ve met told me I definitely sound like an Aussie. Although I hadn’t planned to get that accent, it seems I naturally acquired that through learning. Anyway. To answer your last question, I can think of things like, fron’, pin’, Clin’ Eastwood, Min’, Egg plan’. I don’t think the elimination of a letter only happens with the “nt” Especially, I feel that in the Australian dialect, drop of the a letter occurs in various words. To give you an example, I noticed that ,in Aussie English, the “L” sound in the middle or at the end of a word is sometimes barely or not at all pronounced. e.g. “fall” sounds like “for”. “howl” >>“how” “cold” >>“code” What do you reckon?
It is SO hard doing a Australian accent as a US Southern 😭 I will fall hard back into a DEEPER southern accent because I just don’t usually pronounce my T’s
Yes, the mute of t is quite confusing, when I traveled to straya. Especially people saying can or can't, I had to read their head nods or shakes to recon
this isn't actually far off from how i speak, even though I have an american accent, i usually just mute the "T" in things like Can't, Won't, Foot or Don't, for example
Excellent lesson! I've lived in Australia for a year and finally I found your channel, there are not many aussie teacher on TH-cam, unfortunately. Btw, I've heard your podcasts and it seems that you speak Portuguese, is that right? I'm from Brazil! Can give you some tips if you need hahaha anyway, love your videos! Até logo!
I don't have Facebook, but I've added you on Instagram =) looks like you don't need any help, your Portuguese is already great! I'm living in Townsville, have you ever been up here in Queensland?
sort of seems like there's a subtle little T at the end, whether its a slight vibration of the tongue or the way the word is said. dunno. its there....i swear....
Loved it! Well i kinna figa out that when i prenaunce the words mentioned above - that T doesn't get totally disappeared - it sorta being replaced by a micro "brake" sound afta the N. Its a bit simila to the way that Pommies say Bri-ish but their one is much more active and agressive. By the way just mentioning that in Israeli, been in Oz for a year and im at the states now
In American English (at least most of the varieties spoken in Canada 🇨🇦 and the USA 🇺🇸),we tend to drop the T in NT words. Pretty funny and interesting that Australian English has this feature!!!
Thanks for your sharing,G'day Mate! My boss is from Sydney and your classes are much helpful! Now I can say Gday instead of 'How you doing' to start a con-call,feel pretty good, thanks again!
CUBANBEAUTY omg aussie peeps are the best! They'll love your accent! Been there 5 weeks in last 2 1/2 yrs. Never meet a stranger once... hated to leave both times. 💔 😭
yeah!i mean.. i kinda wanna learn it. But it's a bit difficult for me since i'm used to speaking american accent. hehe.. anyway, thanks for your vids.. ^_^
Thanks for your video, but I always have trouble with CAN and CAN'T in listening, especially in usual conversation. Is there any tip to recognise these opposite words? Thank you!
Well, actually, I'm from the Philippines, but I wanted to learn a lot of accents... The very first accent I learned other than the American was the Australian one.
I actually found the American one slightly harder. Now I speak in an Australian accent, but I'm still learning more slang... Thanks to your channel, however, I can learn easily!
As he said this not something that Australia can claim as unique to their English dialect. Most English dialects do this same t-dropping especially when speaking quickly, and outside the U.K. But I really wish he'd done a spoken comparison of "can" and "can't" because those two are obviously always different. :)
Could you make a video about the differences in the pronunciations between ARE and AREN'T or WERE or WEREN'T it sounds the same to me when the natives speak rapidly
GOODAY MATE .LOVE YOUR VIDEOS .ONLY STARTED, FOLLOWING YOU RECANTLY. I USED TO LIVE IN MELBOURNE FOR 21 YEARS. If find it cute when Aussie said the word can and thank as kan and tank like what I hear with Rosey. One of the reasons why I want to learn Australian bcoz of their accent and the English language itself.
I'm a fast speaker. And most of the time I skip some of the alphabet like R, T, etc. I always thought it's not the right pronounciation and always tried to pronounce the words properly. But I guess, I should stop now. It's Australian accent so it's ok I'm not pronouncing anything wrong. This lesson was easy for me.😅 Thanks for teaching us free of cost. 💞
It doesn' matter how we speak English especially in Aussie. Just say Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi. And most Aussies would say " No worries mate !" This is excellent video. Thanks Pete. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
thanks a lot for doing all this Australian accent, thank you for written down it on your show..I really love to learn more specially pronoucecation...thank you so much ..God bless....
Finally after 11years I’ll stop say “t” at the end of these words ! I haven’t realised it 🤔😂 and I’m a bit shock by the amount of words pronounced in this way....😅 So now I have to forget and correct my English I learned at school from books 🤔👍 Thanks a lot 😊 !
Fantastic!!! A question though. Continental would sound "coninenal"? International "inernational" intercontiental "inerconinenal"? Greetings from Argentina from a Venezuelan trying to learn the Aussie accent
This has seriously blown my mind. I’m Australian and I cannot believe that this is real!! Like, I know I say the “t”, I feel my mouth moving to pronounce the “t”, I can hear the “t”, I can hear the “t” when other people say it. Yet somehow using some sort of black magic, it’s not there 😂 so weird
Haha my colleague fixed me last week when I said CROISSANT with a T. Now I know why thank to your video :D. I've just purchased your supporter pack, I believe it worths the money :). I fall in love with Aussie accents mate :D
I think the t is definitely shortened in most Australian English speakers but you usually can still hear it more than the examples shown here. Would guess it's a feature derived from Cockney English but is less strong in Australia.

The funny thing is that, as a native Aussie speaker, I can "hear" the "t" at the end of every example. Yes, it's softened but not muted/absent.

I think the t is definitely shortened in most Australian English speakers but you usually can still hear it more than the examples shown here. Would guess it's a feature derived from Cockney English but is less strong in Australia.
Crickey. I love Aussie.
But I'm quite confused. Should I apply this accent on my IELTS Speaking test ???
Hi mate Can you help me with the meaning between "such and so" or something similar. Good videos man
Thanks Pete. What does ‘he pulled off a pretty wicked stunt’ mean though?
sound different, yes, I like it so much
Hey, if you don't pronounce the t in can't, how do you differentiate it from can?
They're completely different vowel sounds. 'Can' rhymes with 'ant' and 'can't' rhymes with 'car'.
