I'm back Scott one year later for a refresher but this time I'm installing n/zyme after having already updated my OS to 3.01 The expandability of the Fantom continues to amaze me. Thank you for the first class support Scott. 👍
I want to express my thanks to Scott for a great video. I have have had my Fantom for about a year now but never fully understood how to navigate, download and load the updates from the Roland website, nor how to access the Expansion Boards that are offered through the Roland Cloud. This workstation is a beast as it has incredible capabilities. Thanks Scott. Hope you continue to be one of the many great technicians who help the general public understand the complexities of Roland gear.
New Fantom owner and looking forward to participating in the community, update and expansion install worked perfectly, the instructions were spot on; clear, concise and accurate, well done! Now for a few weeks in the online tutorials! :)
I watch one of the other instructors but he goes a little too fast and forgets to show the buttons that he pushes better. You do a very good job! Thank you. I am now going t o attempt the downloads and expansion. I used to own a Juno 60 and always regretted selling it. Thank You Roland!!
Exactly what I needed to get this job done. I'm old and my brain is not what it used to be. Thank you so much for the step by step instructions. You are my one stop how to guy. And Ed. ha ha ha
Great video Scott!! Managed to update my Firmware on my fantom 8 from 2.0 to 2.5 and also instal the model expansions too! All went well from the outset without a single problem or issue whatsoever.🙏😊👍
Please include subtitles in Russian for the entire Roland Fantom video series. I own this beautiful Roland Fantom 8 machine. And a very long time customer and user of the Roland & Boss brand. The market of your Russian-speaking client will be absolutely grateful and glad for such support.
I should point out that after formatting the USB in the Fantom, when you plug it into your PC, you get a warning that the USB has errors (guess Windows doesn't like Roland's format). I ignored the warning without consequence and updated the Fantom (in my case it was to 2.11). As with any electronic device, updating the firmware entails the risk of screwing up the operating system should the power go out. It just so happens my power blinked for about 2 seconds as I was unpacking the Fantom. I happen to have a Jackery power generator, so I plugged the Fantom into it for this update. If you have a UPS battery backup, I highly suggest you use it for this, and better yet, all the time to protect your Fantom from power surges.
Same thing here. I got the Windows warning the USB has errors but ignored it. All went 100%. Also please note that since this video was created, Fantom is now to v.2.5 and YOU CAN NOT INSTALL v2.1 since it is not on their site anymore. It doesn't matter anyway. I installed v2.5 and got the Virtual ToneWheel organ as a bonus.
Question Scott, is Roland even remotely considering re-designing the Cloud app? It look horribly outdated, sluggish to respond and head scratching to navigate. One of my most requested features is the ability to see what tones are included in the pack expansions from the app instead of digging through a pdf file AFTER I've had to buy the pack.
I know that the Roland Cloud team is constantly improving the user experience of Roland Cloud. They are also adding a lot of content as well. I have noted your request about a sound list for the Tones. If you are on Facebook, please join the Roland Cloud User page and post this same request. Some of the team monitors that page.

Hello, i have installed world sound patch EXZ006 it has been installed sucessfully but where to see the installed tones? it says it has lots of tones but where can i see them??
I just checked with Roland Support and they said, "The model expansions included with the Fantom update never expire." In the video he says they are free for now, but it turns out they are free for life for the Fantom (with the update).
I followed the same process to install the model expansions on the new Fantom 06 and I get an error that says "Incorrect File!". I can't find any other instructions online on how to install any differently. Is there a different process or file? I got the expansion file from Roland cloud under Fantom 06/07/08. It is a .exz file.
For the Supernatural expansions- can their scenes be installed in bulk? The svd files are all named 'fantom.svd' so even though they are different sizes Windows tries to number them sequentially which, I'm assuming, the Fantom would not like since its probably looking for a specific filename.
I’ve followed this video to the letter and it did update to the new 2.10 version but when I tried to install the expansions the usb stick is saying that it is empty, even though all the files are there. Help!!
@pete k this video is for installing the Model Expansions for the FANTOM. The Jupiter-X/Xm is a different process and the Expansions available need to be purchased first. Try selecting "Both" for Jupiter-X/Xm, it should populate with what is available for the Jupiter-X/Xm. Hope that helps.

(Hard Reset? where to do it?)
Hey, I’m sure this question has been asked many times but I’m wondering if all of these expansions can be installed at the same time on one fantom? At what point would it run out of storage memory to install new updates/expansions?
Hi Scott, I have just updated my Roland Fantom 6 with th enew version 2.10 which worked but when installing the expansion pack ( JUNO 106, Jupiter 8, SH-101 and JX-8P) I have an error message "wave memory damaged - contact customer service" !! I have researched this case on the internet and found several users who had the same issue with previous firmware update. Your expertise, help and assistance would be greatly appreciated. Olivier
Olivier, did you verify that the Fantom was indeed update to 2.10 through [MENU] -> system setting? This message will show up if the Fantom is not on 2.10. If that message shows up you can push [SHIFT+EXIT+ENTER] to get out of that screen. Try the Update process again and verify the update. Please, keep me posted. If you are on FB, feel free to look me up.
Hi Scott, great thanks for your help and support ! Even though my system was indeed updated to version 2.10 the issue came when installing the expansion pack ( JUNO 106, Jupiter 8, SH-101 and JX-8P) I had the message "not possible to install the packs / Pls remove license 1096 ", I selected OK remove license 1096 and then the expansion packs were installed but the message "ERROR/Wave memory dammed - Pls contact customer service". I reinstalled the version 2.10 but no change as the message was still appearing so I used (SHIFT+EXIT+ENTER) which gave me two option ; recovery or continue, recovery completed did not help as the error message remained so I selected continue and then the error message was gone. Thanks for the advice of pushing [SHIFT+EXIT+ENTER] which solved the issue. All I need now is to dig my fantom 6 and get a nice Roland Fantom T-shirt "the need to create" which I would like to have but unable to get one... Best regards.

Every time I tried to install the expansions Models after updating to 2.1 the fantom 8 keeps saying Incorrect Licenses Error -1096. I've tried redownloading again from the cloud and it's the same thing each time. I followed every step in the video but to no avail.
Is your Fantom is updated to 2.10? If yes, have you been able to install any of the 15 EXZ's that were available before the release of the Model Expansions?
Same here. Just do what the prompt tells you: Remove the License. Then it will ask you to Add the License. Just follow this and you'll be OK like I did.
Don't have a Fantom yet but if I download these, will I be able to keep them until my Fantom arrives or would I need to pay for them if stop being free?

About the Model Expensions: When I push " download" it says that " this instrument requires Zenology plugin......." so it will install directly in this plug-in, instead of being downloaded to the computer and showing up in downloads....what is it that i am doing wrong?? followed all your steps...

My roland cloud manager won't open after first time of ever using it. Its such a bad developer of cloud services and there is no where else I can get zencore sounds.
Why not use USB instead? Using thumbdrive is so low tech in 2021. Lucky Fantom didn't use SD card like my 707. with those pesky and intermittent SD card read write problem in my mac. I don't even bother to load free sound.
I can't figure out for the life of me how to get to the free expansions without paying for a subscription first, when I click "free trial" it wants me to sign up with a payment processor which doesn't seem to work, The expansions were advertised as free addition which sold the board to me so this is just as unacceptable as the broken aftertouch not working on black keys, and Roland apparently being aware about this hardware cockup but not doing anything about it. I'm thinking about returning the Fantom for a refund.
You're probably NOT following the instructions in this video. Just OPEN-CREATE a Roland cloud and download/install the app on your computer. You will get the expansions from within the cloud app on your computer.
simple: nothing to it: first you do this, then you do that, then this , then that ad nauseatum, until , in the end, it becomes the digital equivalent of a Rube Goldberg! lol......why can't you: Download ONE thing, take the thumb drive to your Fantom, and touch ONE button and load the whole schlimagel.......why go through all of these hoops??? gets tiresome for me......
If you are planning on buying this synth then be informed that this doesn't have a traditional sequencer on it. It has a very slow, basic, rudimental Ableton Live clip style that has a 32 bar limit. Even though this is called a Fantom, it is not a workstation so please don't make that mistake. Roland have no plans to include a traditional linear sequencer as this is mainly a performance synth. Furthermore, although it os a flagship, it doesn't have the same acoustic realism as say the Integra 7 which is a major disappointment. The onboard drum sounds are similar to a Casio keyboard and have no character and the TR drum sounds are not the same as on the TR-8s which are far superior in realism which means you'll need to buy another piece of hardware to get quality drum tones. Samples cannot be time stretched or manipulated in real time. You basically have to use a DAW to edit samples then import over USB ???? which is super slow and import at the BPM and key of the track you are working on.

@@kruimel66 Try going into the Hardware tab and selecting the Fantom-6/7/8. Over there you should see the models for Fantom. There is an option Available in your Library and click on that. That should lead you to the download page.
@@ablesam I alredy did that.....
"free for a limited time" does that mean at some point we'll lose access to them if we have to update our firmware again?

FYI, that Fantom is not and will never be class compliant.
I bought the expansions and be ready to get some tech expertise! this is not very intuitive to speak kindly...
simple: nothing to it: first you do this, then you do that, then this , then that ad nauseatum, until , in the end, it becomes the digital equivalent of a Rube Goldberg! lol......why can't you: Download ONE thing, take the thumb drive to your Fantom, and touch ONE button and load the whole schlimagel.......why go through all of these hoops??? gets tiresome for me......
You look and act a bit like brian wampler.
