Looking at this years later... Obviously the Caddy 4Motion was never conceived as an offroad vehicle. The allwheeldrive gives it enhanced grip on roads - even bad ones - that are slippery, and in general just better roadholding and stability especially when going through curves a bit fast. Great in conditions around freezing with wet snow, ice or heavy rain. Sure it will go further than a 2WD car on muddy tracks, but it is not meant to navigate steep obstacles or big rocks. I do wonder however if the allwheeldrive on the tested Caddy was working properly, the ESP/ABS and the Haldex coupler should not allow just one free hanging wheel to get all the power and spin like mad as shown. Power should be also on the front wheels and the ABS/electronic antislip should have slowed that rear wheel at least somewhat. Was the traction control/ESP on or off? Without a lifted suspension the VW Caddy is certainly not suitable for true offroad use. The Peugeot Dangel is a an aftermarket modification that has been lifted as part of the 4WD installation. AT least it should have been tested against a VW Caddy with lifted suspension and decent offroad tires. I think the Caddy would still lose wherever it needs a steeper angle of attack as the front spoiler sits too low for offroad use; the Peugeot/Citroên front bumper curves back under the car and allows more space for going over obstacles. But it would have been a fairer comparison. BTW, any car intended for use offroad or on bad country roads should have a good strong under-engine protection plate. Often they don't have that, which is crazy.
