It’s Only the End of the World is histrionic and claustrophobic: deliberately oppressive and pretty well pop-eyed in its madness - and yet a brilliant, stylised and hallucinatory evocation of family dysfunction: a companion piece in some ways to the epic shouting match that was Dolan’s earlier movie, Mommy. This is a pressure cooker of anxiety, a film with the dials turned up to 12. Watching it, listening to it, is like having your head in the speaker bin for a Motörhead concert.
Agreed! It was intense all throughout and at points you as an audience gets so exhausted you just want to shout at everyone and say “shut up and listen!” But they never did, and everything was too late in just a matter of a short weekend. It’s a lesson in communication and understanding that I have learned since.
It's Only The End Of The World is an amazing film, still didn't understand why USA and UK critics hate it, still this film won Grand Price of the Jury at Cannes Film Festival
This movie is really great. The tension was really high with simple dialogue and good camera work. It's hard to find a Dolan piece without the subject of homosexuality and/or incest in it. Am I the only one who see's the straight signs of incest in this piece? Even Suzanne telling antoine he's "pretty" when he smiles at the last 20 minutes...
Amazing movie,great performances and so impressed by the characters you see them in every day life,family and friends..unwilling to hear,to see,to feel, to love....a totally lack of empathy ...such a sad movie and exceptional to my eyes...pitty the staring character died after a few years,some movies are so predictive ...rip
Gaspard Ulliel tragically died in a skiing accident yesterday - I was looking around to see if I could find a copy (or streaming source) for It’s Only the End of the World as I'd like to see it again. Anybody have any suggestions, cause I just can't find it anywhere. I mean, it's ridiculous - this should be readily available.
These videos are awesome. May I suggest a movie/series that will surprise most? Michael Bay's Transformers are quite all over the place with action and explosions, but there are some rather stunning shots in the movie series and the music by Steve Jablonsky is amazing.
