    A Cat truck is a sweet ride for a boulder hauler. A 773 was as big as they got here as far as I know. Been out of the loop for a while. They had a 71 and a 73. I ran the 71 mostly unless the 73 driver was out but it was like a dune buggy next to the old Ford 800, the old IH straight drive, the R-22 and R-35 and the 40 ton Te-wrecks with the Cummins and electric shift Allisons. I was always partial to the R-35 with the 12V-71 and not much exhaust system. It did really good for what it was but the 771 or 773 were like limos compared to the ride of the older ones. The 71 hauled 40 tons plus and the 73 was 60 plus a bit. We were running between 12 and 1400 tons per hour with a Hitachi 1200 shovel. Not much wasted motion. I always really liked the way those trucks shifted themselves. Smooth.
    Thanks for the tour, Pal! A-PLUS and God Bless

    The triple 7’s were game changers for Caterpillar and for the mining industry in general!!…extremely tough and well made, and they are to this day, favourites for stripping over burden operations because of their incredible maneuverability and rim-pull forces!…still the best truck in its class in my opinion!

    Another excellent video production by PA MINING. It really amazes me that those 777 units are still working. A true testament of outstanding build quality. No doubt the 777 series haul trucks have been enormously popular worldwide, and a big success for Caterpillar. Great truck, but my all time favorite is the 793 series. The Caterpillar 793 haul truck is considered the GOLD STANDARD by many people in the mining industry. I’m pretty sure that CAT has manufactured about 6,000 units so far. The 793 started out as a 240 ton truck and now with the F model its capacity is 255 tons. I think it’s awesome that they are all mechanical drive.

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for that! Glad you enjoyed it! I agree, and the 793C was always my favorite and, go figure, I've yet to see one haha!

    • @williamhall9204
      @williamhall9204 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PAmining I totally agree with you on the 793C. I think that is the model that was really a world beater. And then CAT improved the 793 again with the D version, and currently the state of the art F model. It always amazes me that CAT has manufactured about 6,000 of these 240 ton haul trucks. I would love to know what kind of production could be achieved at a large scale mine by using only Caterpillar 793C-D-F units with a group of highly trained operators. Keep in mind that the mechanics/technicians would only be working on the 793 model. As a mine owner or operator, I think the only other ingredient you would need would be a good stockpile of spare parts and components. With that scenario I believe the productivity results would be amazing.

      At one of the iron mines in Minnesota they move about 300,000 tons a day of ore, rock, and overburden with 793's.

    Ran a B, C and D in Indiana and a F model in Western Kentucky and the C model was always my favorite. In Kentucky I’d rather be on a 785 Komatsu than a F model 777 because the cab setup is annoying. Another awesome video!!!

      I don't care for the seating position in the newer cab either. They're a bit more comfortable but otherwise inferior in almost every way. The G-series is overengineered junk.

      Basically the method behind the madness...
      On our end we just see them moving dirt, but I've always been curious as to why they do it the way they do. The engineering of the mine site
