Can we talk about how 2008 Ryan Howard had 48 hr and 146 rbi, but only managed 1.8 war? (I understand defense and baserunning counts for a lot with war, still crazy)
Also a relatively low OBP and a low slg for someone who hit 48 bombs (it took him 610 abs and only batter .251) also hurt his WAR. WAR use’s OBP and slg not totals. If you hit .250 on a team that gave you 400 rbi opportunities (100 rbi) are you better than someone who hits .300 on a team that have you 300 rbi opportunities (90 rbi). Or a guy who hits 40 bombs but only got on base .200 of the time can’t positively impact a whole season like someone with an OBP of .400 who is on base most games
Werth is on the Nationals' ring of honor. Sure, they've only existed since 2005, so the bar was not super high, but it wasn't all about the statistics during his time in Washington. He was a veteran leader of a team and city that were learning what it was like to succeed in MLB
Before I click play, I really want to drive the point home how much it sucks he didn't get to be on that Nationals squad that won it all. He was one of the many guys who got looked down upon in baseball circles because signing with the Nationals when he did was seen as a "cash grab" He would've fit like a glove on that squad. Really glad the Nationals put him in their ring of honor, he deserved it.
1:12 "Jayson Werth, from the jump..." as he's jumping in the air, nice😂 Also I remember him ticking off a bunch of people right before he retired when he said that sabermetrics were "killing baseball".
about 30 seconds into this I thought "oh he better include that one clip of Werth hitting a nuke piece in a men's league game...." and you came through bro
I was still a Dodgers "fan" when MVP Baseball 2005 came out. He was epitome of a good player and could smoke lefties. I enjoyed seeing his name from afar, and it was nice to see him mentor Harper for his first few years in the bigs. Great video!
As a Nationals fan, those mid-10s seasons where we were very good but not great were always brutal. Jason Werth was one of our best players during that time for sure. I'd love to see a video about Ryan Zimmerman!
When Werth signed with the Nats, that began their coming into their own as legitimate contenders. He actually was a driving force behind the club making changes in the clubhouse and behind the scenes stuff that gave the Nats street cred with other potential free agents that this was a legitimate MLB franchise.
Love him, my brother and i saw Marsh for the Phillies a few weeks back and his hair and beard made me think of this badass! Was not aware he's from Springfield! I'm from southern IL, that's badass!
I hadn't watch a baseball broadcast in awhile, peeked my eyes at a Phillies game. I was like, whats Jayson Werth still doing in the outfield? He's gotta be like in his 45 now! Jokes on me, it's still Jayson moonlighting his retirement as Brandon Marsh!
As a Phillies fan, I've always said that the downfall of that team started when we lost him. But I can't blame him. The Nationals offered him bank. You can't pass that up lol
One of my favorite players in Phils history, great video. To his day I don't fault him for getting his bag from the Nationals. Unfortunately with how many stories end with ex-professional athletes going broke, stories like Jayson's are a shining example in the opposite direction.
Even though he didn’t finish his career with my Phillies I hope we can retire his number with us however he was def underrated especially in that era. Y’all just had to be there 🥹🥹🥹
I guess I'll be the Toronto fan that didn't want to see him traded. He was highly regarded by fans that really knew... and he was traded for bullpen help. But was WAY down in the depth charts.
I can't be the only one that keeps confusing Jayson Werth with Michael Morse for no good reason whatsoever except for the fact that they look vaguely similar on a split-second glance from 200 metres away.
Enjoyed the video, but Jayson's been around in baseball since that 2018 reunion. That same 2018 weekend, he played with Nats teammate Adam LaRoche in a retired guys baseball tourney in Louisville - the reason he was getting some at bats in the men's league! Look it up in the Courier Journal- nice write ups. I had family there at the time, so I went down for the series. It was great for me to see him play several games in a Nats uni one more time. (He's my favorite, too.) He was at Nats Park in Sept 2018 to be installed in our Ring of Honor, and until he moved, he stopped by to watch games now and again. He was at Nats Park when we won the NLCS in 2019, and at our WS games in DC and Houston. He was at Nats Park to retire Ryan Zimmerman's jersey in 2022, and just last week, he was in the booth for a Nats game with our broadcasters for nearly the entire game. I had money on Dornach for the Belmont, so Jayson's next venture has been very exciting so far!!! ⚾🐎
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the resemblance. The face, the hair, the attitude, getting that Money in the Bank from the Nationals contract... dude was basically just Edge but on a baseball diamond instead of a WWE ring.
Idk why you're insinuating that Teoscar Hernandez wasn't good and the dodgers turned him around, because that just isn't true. He's had 1 season with an OPS+ below 100, and that was a 99 in his rookie year. He usually hits in the 120's or 130's

Not only was he first base, but bad at it😂😂. A death sentence when it comes to WAR
Also a relatively low OBP and a low slg for someone who hit 48 bombs (it took him 610 abs and only batter .251) also hurt his WAR. WAR use’s OBP and slg not totals. His September alone is worth more than 1.8 he put the team on his back down the stretch
Cause WAR is made up and used to justify a pre-existing opinion lol
@@EmmanuelPerez88good point but 48 bombs and 141 RBIs is probably better than less than 2 wins above the average player 😂
Chase utley having 9.0 WAR in 2008 is absurd
He was one of the biggest hype bats for the Nats in the 2010s, I'm not sure why he got forgotten so quickly.

Probably could have swapped him and Eaton without making a big deference
about to be another icyvert/srs classic i can feel it
1:12 "Jayson Werth, from the jump..." as he's jumping in the air, nice😂

Yes! I absolutely loved him with the Phillies
Wasn't gonna watch until I heard "those people can kiss my ass".
about 30 seconds into this I thought "oh he better include that one clip of Werth hitting a nuke piece in a men's league game...." and you came through bro
Jayson Werth is what Brandon Marsh tries to be ☠️ he is underrated
I was still a Dodgers "fan" when MVP Baseball 2005 came out. He was epitome of a good player and could smoke lefties. I enjoyed seeing his name from afar, and it was nice to see him mentor Harper for his first few years in the bigs. Great video!

As a fellow Phillies fan, I had no problem with him signing the contract with the Nats. I'd actually wished him luck.
Don’t forget he was also the rated R superstar Edge too!
holy freak yes yes yes he needs the recognition
Nationals fans never forget that walk off home run
One of my favorite players on the 08 core. So glad he’s doing well

The Rated R Superstar

He took some credit for the Nationals winning in 2019. My impression of him is he really feels like a National.. idk. Great guy! Loved him in DC
Werth was one of my favorite players that never was on my team growing up
I loved victorino and utley as a kid Jason was number 3
miss him w the nats
I miss hearing "WERTH-QUAKE" when he hit dingers in Washington
As a Phillies fan, I've always said that the downfall of that team started when we lost him.
But I can't blame him. The Nationals offered him bank. You can't pass that up lol
I loved watching this dude when I was growing up!!!!

Lmao the Mariners got him at the end. Never knew that and I'm a Mariners fan 😂
legend
1:05 this was my first ever Phillies game I think I was 8 years old.
Great vid I would love to see an Adam jones vid
See Jason werth was a fun guy on the Phillies. I want marsh to become like that.
Jayson Werth hair was insane lol
Great video. As always!

"Mighty Los Angeles Dodgers"
My guy, as a Dodgers fan myself, I am here to tell you that we won 84 games in 2008. Mighty is a stretch.
Werth was an above average player with fight and talent. He is and was underrated and Nats fans will always love him.
A fellow #28 enthusiast, hell yea
Even though he didn’t finish his career with my Phillies I hope we can retire his number with us however he was def underrated especially in that era. Y’all just had to be there 🥹🥹🥹
You know who was another cool dude? Jonny Gomes. Check him out sometime
Ppl saying “was it werth it?” Acting like he didn’t get 126 million dollar contract to do it 😂
Mariner legend Jayson Werth 🫡
This guy is so cool he lives by me
Always a good/very good player
Holy shit IcyVert has a youtube channel??? Go Birds
I was at the “kiss my ass” game, love him
I guess I'll be the Toronto fan that didn't want to see him traded. He was highly regarded by fans that really knew... and he was traded for bullpen help. But was WAY down in the depth charts.
Imagine if the Orioles never gave up on him.
Love ya. Lost me when it’s because of his number lmao
I just remember the giants beat both teams he was on in the playoffs 😂
The only reason I liked this video was because there isn’t a’love’ button. He was one of my favorite players during his time with my Nats.
I can't be the only one that keeps confusing Jayson Werth with Michael Morse for no good reason whatsoever except for the fact that they look vaguely similar on a split-second glance from 200 metres away.
Sweet Kyle Busch 18 shirt 👍👍

He looks like edge
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw the resemblance. The face, the hair, the attitude, getting that Money in the Bank from the Nationals contract... dude was basically just Edge but on a baseball diamond instead of a WWE ring.
Jayson is from Chatham Illinois, a town 6 miles south of Springfield.
Bryce Harper before Bryce Harper

He didn't do shit for the Dodgers
