I think everyone has underestimated the degree of "young veteran" is in Leon. He has the exact same mentality as so many others of that archetype where he never really tries to enforce a game. He just lets the opponent decide where and how the fight is going to take place and then he tries to out skill you in the phases you chose. He had multiple chances to disengage from wrestling with Belal that he just didn't take because he went to shoot and get a takedown of his own, almost as if to just prove that he can, but having absolutely zero awareness of how bad that was strategically
A better stat is that Tom's total UFC fight time i less than a 3 round decision (i.e. below 15 mins across 9 fights). His average is nearly below 2 mins. Insane. Maybe we will never learn anything about Tom either loses immediately or wins immediately. Either way im here for it
I was watching Leon squader his opportunity with the elbow at the end of rd 5 in exchange for maintaining top position and I couldn't help but feel bad for Kyle's neighbours.
Perfect timing! Got the night off and figured I'd play some Sekiro while listening to the fellas. Got onto youtube and said, "Come on, Heavy Hands! Don't do me dirty!" and saw you just uploaded 11 minutes ago. Glorious.
@@PhilSophia-ox7ep Oh yeah, of course. Um, so I've not played Tsushima, but It looks to me more like a Ubisoft style open-world adventure game. Sekiro is much more comparable to the SoulsBourne games. I actually don't care for the other From Soft titles, but Sekiro is really clicking with me. the combat and movement is notably faster than even Bloodborne. The defense revolves around a parry system instead of blocking or dodging. The checkpoints are more frequent (super nice for the boss fights). There are less RPG elements, and it's generally structured more like an action game. There also more of a plot versus the other From Soft games which just sort of drop you in and expect you to gradually piece together the lore. So yeah, I strongly recommend it. I'm really digging it so far, and again, this is from a guy who doesn't usually like From Soft games.
I say this not as an insult to Phil’s analytical skill, but man between Paddy and Du Plessis, any time I hear him say “yeah he’s just not good” about a prospect… it kinda makes me want to watch them more closely!
I think they're both too quick to dismiss any fighter with bad technical striking. Paddy and Du Plessis have other things going for them like physicality or grappling but it gets written off because they (understandably) can't stand their flawed striking
@mehal4581 paddys success is unbelievably match up dependent, after one good performance where his striking defense isnt on display I'm unwilling to believe that the issue has been addressed. Even though Dricus has ugly striking mechanics, he doesnt have the defensive holes like Paddy does, and 185 isnt nearly as good as 155
@@Vitaly3548he has as massive, if not more massive defensive holes than Paddy. Yeah I think they do seem to immediately dismiss Paddy. He’s clearly flawed but absolutely has his strengths. I think Jack Slack has a better measure of Paddy than HH tbh. No denying that sub against Bobby Green was incredible.
@@__Rum-Ham__I was going to shout out Jack Slack too, I listen to this, and his podcast, and if they disagree then generally whichever podcast has the more balanced opinion of a fighter is correct
I wouldn’t be so sure about a shavkat win there. Shavkat got pieced up by Geoff Neal at times and didn’t look super fresh even as he did get the finish. Belal doesn’t get tired and could pose some serious problems for Shavkat by putting him in a tiring dog fight that requires heavy grappling exchanges and being constantly ready to throw as Belal is going to be in his face at all times.
@FreefallSC fair. Geoff Neal is a lot more powerful than Belal though. I lean towards Shavkat despite thinking that Belal would beat Leon but honestly at this point Belal winning wouldn't be shocking. I expect a pressure-heavy game from Belal too. If someone is very offensive, getting them on the back foot is not a bad idea.
The thing about HW is that it's extremely top heavy and you go from huge monsters to blobs pretty quickly once you leave the top 5. So at this rate we might never see Aspinall get tested for years. He's already beaten 3 fighters in the top 5
Leon was also mega "pouty" in the second Usman fight. Don't care what anyone says, he was a beaten fighter heading into round 5. That head kick finish was like a 2% likely outcome.
100%. He got lucky after not just doing poorly but giving up and pouting for multiple rounds. “The speech” that everyone talked about being such a great moment was actually just a coach begging his weak willed fighter to quit being a b*tch. Leon seems like a nice guy, but that was so gross to have such a weak and shameful performance be venerated like a rocky-esque story of heart and grit.
@@liamhowlin7634 Yes, I meant it was his best anti-southpaw performance. He did switch a bit here and there, but most of his work was with the orthodox lead hand

@@ark4723 it’s ok, between round 1 and 2 umar became an underdog. Haven't yet watched the Podcast, but obviously I saw the event - over here at fucking 4am 😒 Not commenting on much, other than whilst I'm sad Leon lost (my boy) I'm happy for Belal to get validation for his career; I also love that Colby Covington instantly called him out online and was met with a universal "fuck off" from the MMA World. It's unlucky though that his first defence is likely gonna be Shavkat Rakhmonov 😬, but him achieving this is great. One thing to point out is that two judges had the bout 48-47, all three scoring Leon the third, one giving him the first round, and one giving him the fifth. I personally had Leon winning the third and the fifth (that GnP rally was the most damage done all fight and he really fucked Belal's nose and eye up with that). He was also for me winning the first before that second takedown, meaning Leon wasn't actually that far off winning this fight. Which makes his flat performance, likely brought on by, once again, fighting at a stupid time, just that bit more frustrating. But he'll be back - still my boy 😅 But the main thing for me is how much of a *douche* Dana was at this event. The fact he cut Mokeav on the spot for things that honestly most fighters are doing all the time, and getting annoyed at him for having a boring fight, that was too typical of the dude he was facing, was handled poorly regardless of what you think of Mokaev. We want to see the best against the best under the best conditions, and it seems that the UFC is fucking things like that up by just, you know, not caring anymore. And worst of all for me, he didn't even attempt to look happy for Belal Muhammad winning the fight. I know he may not be the most exciting guy in the world, but he's one of your fighters, he works for you on the analysts desk, he's been a real company man through and through, at least fucking try to look pleased for him. But now it's the time for them to fuck up UFC Noche next by having an Arizonian with an Irish surname and a Georgian bloke headlining. FFS.
