I have been blessed to see many free videos from you over the years. You are definately the very best teacher and performer on u- tube, and I want to thank you for making my jazz etc. playing better and better. I know that you have spent many years practising to achieve your stupendous piano technique, and the amount of hours honing your ability bears unbelievable results! Richard.😍😊
Brilliant lesson. Only just started wrapping my head around the George Shearing block chords style and drop 2. This is a great supplement. Love John, he explains things beautifully.
Very useful for beginners. Really the way from 1 to 6 is long and requires continuous improvements in fingers technique and keyboard feeling. So this short lesson is a guideline for months of everyday practice. Thank you John.
Thanks. For my tritone subs i use the following shortcut - go up a 1/2 step from the target note and play a dom 7 (11/13) . But i understand you need to show the theory. Wasn't familiar with the mu chord - it seems to be basically the secondary dominant, but with a 2nd and the 3rd in the bass. Great video, learned a lot.
Can you do a tutorial on Happy Birthday in the minor key. It’s so haunting that I would love if you can do a tutorial from note to note & chord to chord. I still can’t get that melody out of my mind.
00:00 - Intro

Really great lesson- logically explained and slow enough to GET IT. No superfluous talking but he tells it simply and effectively. Great communicator.
Thank you!

For sure!
Anyone else remember when Johnny had black hair....???!
LOL he isn't Jonny

Chesky can play the wicked thirds. It's hard to play 3rds.
