SEGA's been sleeping on their own treasures, finally!! I just hope they get these modern versions right, like Street of Rage 4. I'd love to see a modern take on Gunstar Heroes, such a great game!! :)
With Model 3 games appearing in the Yakuza spinoffs, it would be great to see SEGA release a compilation of unreleased arcade games. Anything SEGA Rally or Outrun would also be great. Can't wait to play new Shinobi and Golden Axe! Well done SEGA!
Id like Sega to show some love to their old RPGs like Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon and Shining Force. Give them to Atlus if needed and let them make something with the IP
I know john! I jumped out of my seat when I saw the trailer!!!! Cannot wait!! Now all we got to do is convince Sega for a Virtua fighter mega collection lol!! And the dude yelling "SEGA!" Flooded my brain with nostalgic dopamine, yes!!
I'm so stoked about this announcement! I think this is a great sign of hope for Sega fans that know that Sega is more than Sonic!! And Sega give us new entries in old franchises and collections of Arcade, and games from all systems!
I've been a Sega fan most of my life. Bought a Sega Genesis when they first came out and then the Sega CD expansion console. Also, I bought both Genesis 1 & 2 mini consoles. Sega is smart to breath new life into the old classics. I'm sure I'll pick up all of the Sega classic remakes.
Are they though? Or will people just scream and shout it's not good enough, unless the games at the level they're made will cost no more than $9.99? Of course with infinite redownloads, as is the digital way, guaranteed safety for when you break your own SSD or burn down your own house containing your game "collection". What I would definitely want, is an easier, but still simple line of remakes in the same scope as genesis games, made in 3D CG, that would generate a save state of retro games as you play them. Let's say you play some absurd token-taker arcade beat-em-up. Then you could revert to "modern mode" which is functionally it's own, new game, it just maps to that old game, so you can play difficult parts AS that new game rather than some cheesy quick-rewind spamming. Absolute gold would be if TotK could just revert to a harder 2D side-scroller Zelda 2 mode, at will. Or rather, if they would sell Zelda 2 with a mode included that runs easier in the totK engine.
@@sboinkthelegday3892 that doesnt help RPG fans because a lot of Sega RPGS wont work in 3D AND Phantasy star online doesnt count not being turn based. We miss out AGAIN and its not the 1st time Sega has back stabbed us over this
Finally. I don't know what took them so long. They can only ride that Sonic train for so long when they have so many other great IPs they can work with. I would love a new Jet Set Radio. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is doing an OK job holding me over until then.
These games look amazing. Fantastic Sega IPs that I've played since day 1. I can't wait until these see the light of day. I'll be first in line. Thanks for the video, John.
I love sega. My brother first got the nes console and then I received the sega genesis with sonic for my birthday. Shinobi is a huge game for me along with streets of rage. I love sega genesis and also went back to master system.
Phantasy Star IV is my all-time favorite game. If they were to make a "Phantasy Star V" as a devoted turn-based sequel to that game, it would blow my mind.
Sega knocked it out of the park in that trailer for me. I've been looking forward to a new Shinobi game! I think Streets of Rage could work as a 3D beat-em-up just like Shaolin Monks was great as a 3D beat em up
I'd really like to see a brand new Phantasy Star like the first four. Getting a new 2D Shinobi is definitely awesome, and new Golden Axe and Streets of Rage games are welcome if they're done well.
A brand new GOLDEN AXE & SHINOBI is what I'm so HYPED UP! for the most. SHADOW DANCER & GOLDEN AXE 2 are two of my all time favorite games. TIGHT video! 👍👍
This is exciting.... the nostalgia excitement is through the roof with the trailer. Besides this Golden Axe and Streets of Rage 3D remakes the games I really want are - - Shining Force - a modern traditional sequel to 1 & 2 please. Road Rash - I know there is a newer game but I want more Road Rash baby! A serious battle bike race series with character interactions and relationships. Shadowrun - I want a remake of the Genesis/Megadrive version. The turn-based action new games are fine but I want a sand box adventure game like the Sega version. bring Joshua Back!!!
Here’s some more to revisit: Daytona 4, Panzer Dragoon Saga 2 (or another shooter), Nights 3, Sega Rally, Outrun, Altered Beast, Ecco, Toe Jam & Earl, Greatest Heavyweights, and Eternal Champions… let’s go Sega!!!
I’m hoping this new SEGA renaissance sees a return of “Nights into Dreams”. More in line with the style of the classic Sega Saturn version…when the character was mute and mysterious , and less like the whimsical Wii version. Happy Sega is back!
I can't wait for SEGA to release the Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi remakes, i loved the homage to Crazy Taxi in the Like A Dragon 8 demo too (Crazy Delivery)
Very excited to see more of what they're working on. New games for Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Shinobi would be great! I highly doubt they'd go back this far but I think both Master of Darkness and Zillion would be great candidates for new games.
Sega should bring back a new Outrun 3,Afterburner 3,Daytona USA 3,Sega Rally 3,Sega Bass Fishing 3,Sega Maine Fishing 2,Spike Out 3,Space Harrier 2,F355 2,Virtual Cop 3 and Hang On 2 also.
I am all for trying to refresh some classics. Retro is fun for a short time, but Streets of Rage 4 was Epic! Willing to see them do more of this. I loved Gain Ground and Alien Storm back in the day.
I would like to see also a new “Comix Zone”/“Virtua cop”bring back the Lightgun games.Maybe some Disney Mickey and Donald the illusion games in 3D this time.
OH MY GODS - how rad would this be to get released on a Sega platform? I realize that its not financially feasible and even Nintendo is releasing things on STEAM these days - but still - a nice forethought lol. Had no idea this was a thing until your video John! Thanks again for always keeping slackers like me in the loop! Excited for SEGA to get back in the game with their IPs!
Hopefully SEGA will follow in the footsteps of the "Atari 50 Anniversary Celebration" & release a compilation of some of there classic arcade games (including all 5 vector games) along with selected console classics (including "Out Of This World/Heart Of The Alien" for SEGA CD, "Enemy Zero" & "D" for SEGA Saturn, & "D2" for SEGA Dreamcast). Plus include a rich history lesson with informative interviews from the people behind the games. And last but not least give it a physical release on modern consoles.
This is not the first time this has happened. Back in 2001, I was starting a development team with some good friends and one of the publishers we approached was SEGA since we had prior experience with them working on Genesis games. They gave us a list of classic properties they were interested in developing as next-gen titles: Altered Beast, E-Swat, Shinobi, etc. The game we pitched went nowhere (a good story for another time), but they did end up publishing a really crappy Altered Beast successor on PS2 and Golden Axe on PS3 as a result. I'll be excited about this announcement if there's nobody from early 2000's SEGA management in charge.
Bonanza Bros would be my first Sega game pick for a refresh. I thought it was so cool when I was 13 years old! As far as the presentation goes, I am excited for the new Crazy Taxi most of all.
I'm really pleased to see Crazy Taxi isn't going for a hyper-realistic look. It looks like a really optimized and upgraded update to the original. I'd love to see a modern take on the Dynamite Cop/Die Hard arcade series. Those games were such chaotic ridiculous fun. We used to ride our bikes to a local arcade back in the mid/late 90s and Die Hard Arcade was the go-to cabinet.
'And more' has to include Virtua Fighter as well. I'm very pleased that they're going back to Golden Axe, that franchise has been forgotten (until now, that is). And even though I do find it strange that they're already going back to Streets of Rage (because SoR4 was excellent, not sure we needed a new one already) I guess I understand why (SoR4 sold about 2 million copies from what I read recently). I'm not sure how those games will play like in full 3D, however (because they will be full 3D). But I have some hope. Time will tell. There might also be a small chance to see Vectorman somewhere in there (it was partly developed by Sega at the time from what I remember; correct me if I'm wrong on this one).
golden axe will always be one of my favorite sega games and im SUPER EXCITED for it. shinobi looked amazing too. I wish they would bring back panzer dragoon saga or redo burning rangers.
Shining Force! It's time for us to get another turn-based strategy rpg entry in the series. I would love to see a new Shining force that maybe even looks better than the most recent Fire Emblem entries that Nintendo has released.
Yes! A new Shining Force would be like a dream come true. Coincidentally, I’m currently playing Shining Force II with my three year-old son and he loves it as much as I do. Let’s hope we get a new (true) Shining Force game.
Shinobi, Golden Axe, I really hope these are done good, i love these games on arcade and Megadrive... I would love all those old classics done again and well, Altered Beast would be on my list too
I’d love a Shining Force. How about they blend Altered Beast and Golden Axe into one game? They have the same Chicken Leg Dragons. You could let Gilius turn into a beast!
I’m a little disappointed Golden Axe didn’t go for an old-school 2D pixel style. To get a new Golden Axe similar to something like the recent TMNT Shredder’s Revenge would’ve been awesome.
Shredders Revenge is insanely overrated. It's not a bad game, but it's also not the pinnacle of the genre people are making it out to be. The boss fights are downright tedious sponges who act unphased by your attacks, except flashing with each hit. You dodge their attack waves until they stand still, mindlessly mash buttons, rinse and repeat until they die. It should be an expansion of the gameplay style of the original Golden Axe games, not a cheap knock off of an already cheap buttonmashing brawler.
More excited than I've been in a while with this and Dragon's Dogma 2. Sega hit me in the nostalgia feels. Fingers crossed for another Phantasy Star and remake or sequel to Skies.
I agree with you on Sonic, there are way too many games, it's nice to finally see SEGA bring new games of these classics. I hope they do a Billy Hatcher revival.
I also really liked Streets of Rage 4. I thought DotEmu did a superb job just like they did with the new Turtles game. So it'll be interesting to see how the game is with 3D!
Shinobi looks like a modern 2d ninja gaiden ❤. A vectorman online pvp would be fun. Destructible environments, high powered weapons, and vectorman transformations would make a great game
I love your videos John. Life is short so i try my best to spend my time on things that bring me joy. TH-cam feels like a waste of time, but videos like yours are the ones that make me come back to watch more. Thanks.
I'm all in with Golden Axe in 3D, can be really open and amazing, but not so sure about the SoR, but let's wait, maube the learned some new tricks. I would love to see a Sega Rally in the likes of SR2 for PC, that one was EPIC. Also I would love to see Outrunners getting some love finally. Great vid as always John!
With the news (courtesy of DFRetro) of Model 3 emulation being a thing now, that opens up the possibility of compilations of those various arcade games (Virtua Fighter 3, Sega Rally 2, Fighting Vipers 2, and even if its rebranded cause of licensing, Daytona USA 2). I'd love that, even if it feels like a pipe dream
This is cool, it’s like the Sega Ages series all over again and it’s about time. Looking forward to seeing more games. To be honest I wish they would remaster the ps2 shinobi but this 2d one looks pretty promising too.🎉
I would love if Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, and Jet Set were all in the same world and engine. The game modes for multiplayer would be unprecedented. Fight drivers for taxi fares. Paint and glide to get to taxis first. Ride in with your squad to meetup for a beatdown of opposing teams. 8)
The trailer was amazing. I would hope that Panzer Dragoon, Daytona, Comix Zone, maybe Gunstar?? But the ONE i truly want is Eternal Champions. On a side note, i think that there's a very good chance that what we saw will be on Switch 2. So long as it comes to XBOX, i'm good.
Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe! Sign me up! Just really wish they would do either a Dreamcast Mini, or a collection that includes a lot of 3rd party titles (Armada was my favorite DC game).
Excited about Shinobi and Crazy Taxi. It would be cool for Sega to go back and give us a new Afterburner, Outrun, Chu Chu Rocket, and the puzzle game, Swirl. Also, what are your thoughts on Yu Suzukis latest game? I got it on my my Switch wishlist to download as well as Ataris recharged games and the two intelivision remakes as well. Hope you and your family are doing well.
Hats off to SEGA. They could have thrown in the towel after the underwhelming performance of the Dreamcast. They altered their business model and kept the IP afloat. Would love to see Golden Axe revived.
Great to see Shinobi, Golden Axe and Streets Of Rage series finally getting brought back with modern visuals, but mostly keeping intact the old gameplay style (with Shinobi atleast). Streets Of Rage in full 3D, I will have to wait and see. I think it would be better served God Hand style, behind the back camera, if they were to go that route, but it can be done in the fixed camera style too, DMC style. I still think its going to be hard to beat the previous 2D streets of rage, as that game has a very tight flow that can easily be lost if the 3D isnt done to that level. Golden Axe in 3D will also be something I will have to try. Theres alot of great 3D hack n slash games these days, so it can be done. Good to see Shinobi sticking with 2D as that was what the best games in that series did. Crazy Taxi looks great too. That and Jet Set are not the Sega titles Im mostly interested in seeing come back. For me its mostly that Genesis era which was prime Sega for me. I may be one of the few that wants to see Altered Beast brought back and done right. Though that game was so much about the art style, music and presentation, over the game play, so it would have to have the right vibe. It could also use some more depth to the gameplay as it was a shallow game. It was the game I got with my Genesis as a pack-in, and blew me away, despite not having the best gameplay. Some big ones on my list are Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier,Target Earth, Ranger X, Ristar and of course another 2D Splatterhouse, but I know not all of those were made by Sega. Thunderforce hasnt seen any action in a while too. Still want to see Space Harrier brought back too. Been waiting for Sega to revitalise these old series again, so will be keeping an eye on all of these. Ive been wanting to see follow-ups rather than remasters or rom dumps of these old games.
A virtual arcade like what Capcom did on the PS4 would be awesome. I would love to be able to once again play titles like Turbo, Zaxxon and perhaps even.... dare I say it.... Daytona USA 2.
Looks great , about time crazy taxi came back.what about daytona, skud racer , outrun , space harrier Think golden axe should be in the same style of SOR 4 rather than 3d

Sega needs to offer these on the Dreamcast 2!

Shining Force would be a great comeback.
I love the artwork in Shining Force, and it was fun, be nice to see that updated.
I wish they'd do a Shining Force III Trilogy remaster or remake tbh
Great idea. The games seem to share the same universe and of note, Gilius rides beasts, not change into them.
I hope they would make a remake of Comic Zone. That would be wild

They should make a new handheld based around the Game Gear. Modern specs and everything!
I never had a Genesis but I did have Game Gear.. In hindsight that was crazy thinking
Thank you for this information John.
Very welcome
I got Jet Set Radio with my Dreamcast after coming from Genesis totally skipped the 5thgen consoles so it had a big impact and it’s still looks great
I loved Ecco the Dolphin, Wonderboy, Strider and Aladdin. Ecco needs a comeback!
Great to see u Mr Hancock hope u and your family are well best wishes Mark in the UK
Eternal Champions would be excellent.
I am am a pixel game fanatic, but I have to admit, Golden Axe looks really cool in 3D.
Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe! Sign me up! Just really wish they would do either a Dreamcast Mini, or a collection that includes a lot of 3rd party titles (Armada was my favorite DC game).
As a Genesis Soldier, who was on the frontline; I been waiting for this. Tuck ya chain, plumber.
Hulk hogan lookin’ fu manchu wearing’ immortal bein’ John Hancock giving the greatest news 😊
Alla I want is a new Sega Rally with tracks from the first and second game with new graphics 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Personally I'd love to see remakes of Landstalker and Shining Force...
Its a wait and see for me, the shinobi might be good. The and more could be anything. There must be something nice with all those games.
The Phantasy Star series, and Shining in the Darkness
1st the Anbernic Arc aka "the Nomad 2" and now this! SEGA is back!
Anbernic arc?
@@Invidente7 yessir not official Sega but it bleeds Sega.
Some of the old RPGs could be prime candidates for a revival, or just modern remakes in the vein of Link's Awakening on the Switch.
Looks great , about time crazy taxi came back.what about daytona, skud racer , outrun , space harrier
Think golden axe should be in the same style of SOR 4 rather than 3d
A new Virtua Fighter would be something
Would love to see a new Gain Ground! Imagine what they could do with it now!
