    Many people in the US don't trust Big Pharma so you are not the only one who doesn't trust them. For all the ads you see for X medication, you see just as many ads for lawyers suing the drug companies. 😂 It is hilarious!

      So what’s wrong with knowing about adverse side effects ? That’s when you research medication that even your doctor prescribes. Do you just take whatever you are prescribed without looking up possible adverse effects? Does your doctor go over all possibilities with you?

    • @kurarisusa
      @kurarisusa 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like that we have the ads because it causes Big Pharma to expose themselves in ways they never would otherwise. They would just make back room deals with hospitals to force doctors to promote their products. Now they have to share all the lovely side effects of their drugs. And hearing that list on a commercial is way more impactful than getting some pamphlet with tiny print from the pharmacy that you’re unlikely to even read.

    • @Ranger1PresentsVirtualRealms
      @Ranger1PresentsVirtualRealms 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cherylkruisheer3365 That's not the purpose of the ad though, it's simply a requirement that they include it and they do their best to downplay it with hopeful sounding music and warm family imagery. Their goal is to get you to ask your doctor, so as to influence their decision on what to prescribe... much like toy companies used to advertise to children on saturday morning TV. Doctors are just as much consumers as we are, with a variety of drug choices available on the market they can prescribe for the same condition.

    Screen doors serve 2 purposes. most of them have a separate lock so it gives you another layer of security, if someone is trying to get into your house they have to get past that first layer and it makes noise. Also, in the summer if you want outside air, you can open the inside door and have the window up on the screen door so air gets in but bugs and pests dont. It is also called a STORM DOOR because it creates a barrier between the entry door and very hard wind and rain.

    Checks are less common in the US now, but its generally a good idea to still have a checkbook stashed away in your home somewhere. You can generally pay utility bills online. I worked in banking from 1997 to 2019. Only the last 4yrs as a teller supervisor, the rest of the time was in check processing in one department or another. The use of checks now mainly seems to be older people who are afraid of using autopay or online pymts. Saw departments downsize, outsource and close because of the decline in the use of checks. There is a good probability that the woman’s landlord was one of these people and that was the reason for the request. However, there is such a thing as preauthorized checks - done through online banking BILL PAY where, if a person or company does not have an account number, then one’s bank will print out a preauthorized check, place it into an envelope with a stamp, and postal mail that to the addressee.

    I think most Americans also hate commercials for prescription medication. But just because they are advertised, doesn't mean that's the med we get when we ask. A doctor might say "I think this other medication would be better for you because..." etc. We trust our doctors more than the TV (well, most of us lol) but you can't just GET a medication unless your doctor prescribes it for you, so there's no way you are diagnosing yourself, then getting a medication for it. That's not legal here.

    Not every American likes coffee. My mom & dad didn't, although all my grandparents did. My wife used to call coffee "a waste of a perfectly good smell" until I introduced her to coffee sweetened with coconut sugar. Now it's a 6-day-a-week ritual for her.
    Sweetened cream cheese is really, _really_ nice. It came about partially because of our love for fruit toppings on cheesecake(which is made from cream cheese), partially because people were already spreading cream cheese and jam on their toast & bagels & toasted English muffins(aka crumpets).
    Personally, I love a cranberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese.
    Drinking water fountains started in 1906, when bottles were expensive, made of fragile glass, and nobody thought to have a personal bottle just for your water. The angle at which the water comes out prevents backwash onto the spout, nearly eliminating water-borne diseases like cholera. And yeah, schools all have drinking fountains here, as do national parks, state parks, interstate rest stops, libraries, retail stores, and even some municipal parks.

    I only use cream cheese in my cheesecake recipe. I got it from my mother in law. It’s better than any other cheesecake that I EVER had. Seriously. And I hear the same thing from anyone that has tried it. It’s culinary gold.
    Preheat oven 300-350 degrees (depends on your particular oven. & how hot it runs).
    Use graham crackers of choice. If it comes from a box I increase it it by1 1/2 the recipe. You can also crush the graham crackers and go by a scratch recipe but again Iincrease it up to 1.5 the recipe.
    Butter the sides of a 9X11 pan.
    Lay crumbs in bottom of pan and push down.
    24 ounces of cream cheese softened. (I cut it into sections and microwave it for 90 seconds).
    2 cups of sugar
    4 eggs
    1 teaspoon of REAL vanilla.
    Blend with mixer until smoothe. Pour over graham crumbs. Bake approximately 40 minutes (depends on your particular oven does it run hotter than usual or cooler? I haved baked it anywhere from 300 degrees to 350 degrees depending on my oven so adjust your oven temperature accordingly.
    Bake until the top looks like custard (little holes poking through). That’s the most important thing. At this point in time I can smell when it’s done.
    When the cake is out put it on the counter to cool and turn up the oven to 400 degrees.
    Blend by hand:
    16 oz of sour cream
    4 overflowing tablespoons of sugar.
    Spoon out on top of cake, level it with spoon.
    Cook 5 minutes (this will “set” the topping).
    Remove and sprinkle graham crumbs on top for garnish.
    I then take a knife and go around the perimeter of the pan so the cake doesn’t hang onto the sides. I wipe off any residue with a napkin as I go to make for a clean edge.
    Place in refrigerator to cool.
    :)

      My son was allowed to have a spill proof water bottle( They still spill). They have water fountains that have a place that you can refill your water bottle back up. They still have the regular spout on them too.All of the schools in our school district have them.

      Our school has always supplied school water bottles for kindergarten- 6th grade. They stay at school and they wash them at school. Each class has different colors. They have their names on bottles and lids and they get to bring them home at the end of the year. Jr high and high school they can bring their own or buy bottles water at school from the vending machines. Since COVID they don't use the water fountains as much had them shut off completely for COVID not sure if they have turned them back on now but probably and they have the bottle fill fountains.

    Mailing money is safer to do in a check instead of cash for birthdays or Christmas presents etc. We have cash app and PayPal and other apps that can send money in a few seconds we can pay at some stores that way as well or use a debit card or pay cash or by check. It's actually easier to pay in the U.S. it seems because we have so many different options to choose from. I don't know where she is getting her info but she isn't very well informed.

    Cream cheese can be used for a lot of different things, both sweet and savory. Carrot cake is typically frosted with cream cheese frosting, Cinnabon uses cream cheese icing, but it is also spectacular with pastrami on a bagel! Don't knock it till you try it!

    The worst thing about checks is getting behind an old granny in the 10 items or less line who waits until the cashier has rung her up before she even starts to fumble through her purse for her checkbook. Then she takes forever to fill it out because of unsteady hands. THEN…she stands in line to complete her register!!!!!!
    Man! All I want to do is pay for my drink and get out of the store!!!

    flavored cream cheeses
    There is plain, jalapeno, salmon, and maybe some others. I use them on various plain and flavored crackers and bagels. When it comes to fruit-flavored cream cheeses, I can only tolerate them on plain crackers or bagels. I rarely buy fruit-flavored cream cheese. Have you ever put plain cream cheese on a blueberry or cinnamon bagel? Ever had strawberry cheesecake?

    Many landlords prefer to be paid by check, but otherwise I would rarely write a check. But we still receive checks for certain jobs (generally temporary or seasonal ones) that don't use direct deposit. To deposit our checks we can just take a picture of it through our bank apps, we don't have to physically go the the bank to do so. But yeah overall checks are not a commonly used method of payment anymore, we all just still have them for very specific situations like paying utility bills or rent.

    Another thing is that while McDonalds and Burger King are nationwide, out west is where you will find advertisements for Jack In The Box (similar to Mc Donald's. But there are none of those here in PA...so we very rarely see a commercial for that fast food restaurant. Like you already pointed out, the USA is a very large country and it is divided by North, East, South, West, and Mid-West. People who live near the coastal areas eat more seafood than people in the Mid-West. I know a woman who was from California who never ate chicken and waffles or biscuits and gravy. But she eats sushi and you wouldn't get me to eat it if you paid me to! There is so much diversity here in the USA of all kinds because we are a combination of many different cultures and backgrounds. Weather you are talking about food, entertainment, climate, landscape, or even accents, we have a little of EVERYTHING!

    The check thing is probably very dependent on where you live....larger cities likely have no need for them. I live in the midwest in a village with no bank, no stores, nothing. So I have to pay my water bill by check or money order....checks are more convenient. And I write a check for a couple other bills that I don't pay online. At stores and stuff though it's definitely not common anymore.

    Ok. Regarding checks.....it USED to be common practice to write a check to pay your bills. Cash, check, or money order. Then came credit cards like Visa and MasterCard. These were more convenient and safer than mailing a check or sending cash in the mail. I do have a checkbook, but I only use it on rare occasions. Most places today don't even accept a check. Some places now will only take cash or card....and some places are even doing away with cash. I'm 61, so I have seen a lot of things change drastically over the years. When I was a child, it was common to see beer and cigarette commercials on TV. Then they were banned from TV for a while. While cigarettes are still not advertised anymore, alcohol is making a comeback. I prefer to pay my bills with my bank card, but pay cash at my local stores. There used to be cashiers in the store where an employee would ring up and bag your things for you. Many stores are hiring fewer people and now we have to ring ourselves out. That is sad because so many people no longer have a job. Robots and automation are making people poorer, dumber, and less fit physically. Newer practices generally hit the west coast sooner than the east coast and what was a popular hair style on the west coast may take five years to catch on in the east. Again, the USA is over 3,000 miles from east to west, so some things do take time. However, most of these gaps are changing quicker due to the internet. When I was a child, social media was going to school or meeting friends at the roller skating rink. We had pen pals and would hand write a letter, put it in an envelope, put a stamp on it and mail it. I guess we call that snail 🐌 mail now. It's been ages since I sent a letter by mail to anyone! The world is fascinating and changing faster than I can keep up with!❤

    A lot of these things are a surprise to her because of her age. Carrying around a water bottle wasn't a thing for half of MY life. Except for cash, checks were the only way to pay in most situations and in many places and situations in this big country they are still preferred by vendors. Once a week we pay our grain guy by check because it costs him money every time someone uses their card and so we don't do that to him. We don't use them a lot but we definitely still use them.

  • @tricitymorte1
    @tricitymorte1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I feel like our cream cheeses may be very different from each other. Think: plain, unsweetened yogurt. It's tart and tangy. Add sugar or honey to sweeten, then you add all different kinds of fruit or even make it into a cheesecake, which is like a dense pie in a crust, that you can also top with fruit and whipped cream. Leave it plain and it works fantastic for savory dishes.
    The drinking fountains? Once upon a time, thousands of years ago, water bottles were not ubiquitous. Not everyone had a bottle to carry with them, so these fountains were everywhere public.
    Checks? We sometimes still need to use them, but it's far, far less common than it used to be. I use a bank that doesn't issue checks, but I just had to order checks on my husband's account because we needed one. One, in... 5 years? And in addition, checks being stolen out of the mail is a big concern. Usually a Cashier's Check, issued for you, from your account, by the bank, to another party. Someone will steal the mail, figure out a way to the payee name and put their own name on it. So... checks are very insecure.

    YEah, very diverse even regionaly. Each state can be divided into MANY viewing ares with each having its own local adverts along with the national ads for things like Coke or Pepsi and national food chains(but even those will have regional versions. McD's can have widely varied commercial ads from town to town within the same state...), but if a family owned busuiness needed to advert and thier only option was to advert nationally simply would not be feasible. Advertising is absolutely very different across the country
