Heartbreaking to share that Marcello Colasurdo has left us.
Marcello was the voice of a generation, keeper of traditions, and an artist who had an incredible impact. Marcello is the sound and soul of Vesuvio.
Thank you for everything Marcello. My thoughts and condolences are with the entire Campania music and art community who loved him so dearly.

When I was an American child growing up in the area and seeing these pilgrimages and telling my mom I was catholic, she gave me a very southern Baptist answer.
    I still got my Madonna.
Thank you so much for your travels and sharing.
You are a gift, Ruairi 🥁🪗🎶💞

My Nonna was from Montevergine and nonno from Serino, the stories of the huge pilgramages back in the 40's /50's/60's were absolutely humbling..
Even though i spent a lot of time around there as a kid, it wasnt until a few weeks ago (we were back closing up property as they have both passed) that i really felt the place.
I havent been religious for a long time, but walking around the abbey after 20 years, looking down the mountain over the towns and villages..it was a genuinely spiritual moment for me..
Benito , Giuseppina. Che la terra gli sia lieve.

Ruairi Glasheen! Bravo! Grazie! Your documentaries are well done and I'm speechless that you have created this series for Italian music. As someone who knows the rhythms and dances personally myself, you have really penetrated into the core of true southern Italian culture! Very impressed with your work. You inspire me to make my own documentary. There are not enough documentaries of real Italian culture like this!

Salvatore, thank you so much for your kind words. It means a lot to me, particularly from someone coming from within the culture. Thank you for taking the time to watch, and write, and we look forward to your documentary, which I hope you will make too! Warm wishes, Ruairi

This was fascinating! The gathering is so so joyous (and well-deserved after that trek). Whilst social engineering creates, destroys and divides, music nourishes the spirit/soul! I'd not heard of Vladimir Luxury before and really enjoyed listening to her. I can't help re-hearing her words, "when I confessed......", she hadn't committed a crime so there was nothing to confess to.
Thank you for bringing this event and its people to my attention.

Grazie per il documentario. È stupendo. Aggiungo che i pellegrini salivano a piedi nudi sul monte come forma di sacrificio, per devozione, come ringraziamento a ciò che avrebbero chiesto alla Madonna

So lovely! Refreshing to know that pockets of inclusivity have existed since ancient times -- celebrated, of course with beautiful and intriguing music.

2nd of February…like St. Bridget. Wonder if there’s any connection between the 2 women? The way information and customs travel it wouldn’t necessarily be a huge stretch.😊

Entirely within the realm of possibility. Ultimately, a lot of transference between icons happening throughout this period and hard to come to concrete conclusions.

Turning away from sin. Your association of your own sin with God is blasphemy.
