  • Parking at Grosmont station we take in Grosmont Railway Station, watching several steam trains depart before we take our own steam train to look around the North Yorkshire village of Goathland, famous as the village of Aidensfield in the TV series Heartbeat. We then do the stunning 3 mile Rail Trail walk from Goathland back to Grosmont, voted one of the best rail walks in the country, watching steam trains pass us along the way.
A superb walk allowing us to see the railway station at Goathland famous as Hogsmeade station in the Harry Potter films and film locations used by Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise in their Raiders of the Lost Ark and Mission Impossible films at Grosmont station. A perfect family day out with steam trains, film location and the glorious North York Moors.

Hey Alan, what a great day out find here, having a ride on a beautiful steam train and a beautiful walk back through some stunning countryside. The area looks stunning, the railway station, village, all the cottages you passed and the walk itself, beautifully filmed and narrated by you as usual. What a fantastic job those volunteers do to keep the trains running and making the station look the way it does. Nice to see Mrs Metalman out with you again mate. Great video Alan. Thanks

Fun adventure today Alan! Great to meet up with Kim and Paul- I bet you had a lot of laughs! It’s wonderful that the volunteers have kept the steam train in working order- and now everyone can enjoy a ride! I haven’t see the Harry Potter movies either- lol, but I’ve seen the Harry Potter train!! Lovely walk back, nice that it’s down hill instead of up. Pretty scenery! Sounds like lots of fun for a family day with grandkids! 😄🚂🚂❤

Another great video. The steam train was special. The landscape continues to amaze me and how clean the landscape is. Your video colors are so clear and bright. The old buildings and structures are so beautiful. The trail back was one I would love to walk…..seeing the beautiful countryside and hearing the steam engine going by. Maybe the best video I’ve seen from you. Thanks for sharing the video.

Another fantastic day out with you all. Absolutely love the old trains and scenery with the old homes and cottages. It’s wonderful how they’ve preserved the history in these areas. There’s not too many steam trains still running around here any more. Even the cog railroad on mount Washington has retired most of them. They still run them on occasion but most are now diesel. Love the connection with the Harry Potter and other films too. Makes me want to break out the movies and watch them again. Thanks for bringing us along. 👍👍

This looked like a fabulous day out, loved you had tea & cake at both stations! You captured the gift shop, trains and train journey fabulously! Fantastic bridge twirl 10/10 🕺💃 glad the sun came out for you! Can’t believe how much Heartbeat stuff they still sell! Mmm fudge! Wow the chap now working in the Aidensfield garage sounds a gem 💎🤣 Thanks to all the volunteers for keeping the steam trains 🚂 alive! Lovely walk back to Grosmont we have done lots of twirling on all those bridges! There is a fantastic number of benches for picnics or just a sit down. Such a good day, and again the weather forecast was not the best and the wind was Baltic when I stopped off on the Moors for a comfort break but as soon as we parked up everything just fell into place. This was great Alan, our kids would love that with the Harry Potter connection. Nice that you got to spend time with The Wattos too, bet that was so fun having tea and scones together 😃 The steam train ride did look so relaxing with the sound of it too, it's great that history has been maintained there like you said.. Loved The Grumpy Old Mens club sign 😄 and the Goatland train station was so pretty. That garage museum /memorabilia place looked interesting and I too like Mrs M, would have got some fudge! That looked so good with all of the trails that you can do there and it was lovely to see the colourful old miners cottages and the steam train moving through the trees. Awesome editing. Very cool about the actors shooting there. It strikes a memory of one of your older videos where you spoke of Kevin Costner shooting in a creek/shallow river near you. You said that Costner was a pansy and had the water warmed before he would enter it if I remember correctly. Damn man, a few videos back a ghost girl, then a sad Goth girl, and now a rope snapping with casualties! Be careful as your area has tons of hidden dangers. With the exception of the starved ghost girl, that one is truly heartbreaking.

Just watched this on the big telly now. What a fantastic treat, i have all the time in the world for these two magical places, whilst they are stuck in time i could easily idle away all my time here. Coffee and cake at both stations? Well ive never done that, but yes twirled that bridge a few times alongside, probably Daniel Radcliffe, Harrison Ford, Alan Metalman although i did read Tom Cruise refused. Nice to see Goathland decked out in Coronation bunting. Great tip about the Aidensfield garage! Gosh done this walk so many times and seeing it makes me want to go back out and do it again. Its one we do once or twice a year and like you pointed out so many other trails in that spot, in total we will visit that area a dozen times at least. Ah that “seat with a view”, thats my favourite, ive spent hours sat there. Cracking video that and im glad the weather held for you all 👍

Alan, this is very exciting trip for me to see a locomotive train!
Awe, familiar faces here, Mrs. Metalman, Watto and Kim 0:46
OMGoodness, I doubt my eyes, almost pinch my cheek 1:47
I feel like being sending back to the time locomotive trains covered with it steams, hide and seek,
but I can hear the sounds of steams and whistles.
    Enchanting, majestic.
    Real or illusion.
It is almost like a children's story book.
Hehe, we have a sweet tooth, too, Mrs. Metalman.
Great tip, one-way- ticket and back for a hike that I discover some neat art, 10:18, 10:21
I would love to see it, a locomotive train in the charming UK town some day. Ciao until next time, Alan.
Apologies for my belated comment due to filming.

Real good of you to stop by and we were all blown away but seeing and then riding on one of the steam trains, which was a real step back in time for me, it has to be the early 60s the last time I was on one. The volunteers do a great job there and all dress up in period costume, which really makes such a difference and so much fun. The walk back was real good too, a great day out spent with Paul and Kim, cheers Alan

Excellent video as I have come to expect. The stream trains looked great. I'm quite surprised to hear they are volunteer run, that is impressive dedication to save some important history. The train stations also looked wonderfully quaint and then a pleasant stroll to cap it off, seems like a great place no wonder it gets used for tv and films. Have an ace week cheers from barnyz 👍👍👍

Wow This looked fantastic and so pleased a non scary video this time 🤣😃🤣. That steam train is superb, so full of character ... it's a bit far for me to travel for this but you never know it looks so good 😍. Depending on other commitments, I'm hoping to get a ride on Laal Ratty next month with my walking group, hoping it's as good as an experience as this 😀 The village itself looks great as does the walk back. Good tips about the grumpy shop owner ( hopefully it was just a bad day 😣) and also which direction to do the route .,, downhill sounds good haha Brilliant video thanks Alan 😊
