The central motor vehicle laws are superseded often by state laws. For e.g. MVA states that "side windows should have minimum 50% light passage", but then any state law can say "side windows should have 70% light passage" which meets and adds on MVA and police can challan you.

Hi... I think after the Nirbhaya incident, the Supreme Court passed a law stating No film of any sort will be permitted. Only company tinted glass direct from the manufacturer will be allowed. This nullified the VLT percent of 70 and 50 for front and sides. I am not sure of the incident though which led to this ruling, so please don't quote me on that... do let me know if I am wrong... thanks

2012 Supreme court ruling clearly mentioned "nothing can be pasted on the glass". Tinted glass only from original OEM is allowed with 30% and 50% VLT.
