    Hey thanks so much for the mention! May the light if Ezra ever shine upon you.
    I have to say, while i do love Borca from 2e post grand conjuntion, I still appriciate Borca being seperte from Dorvinia.
    But it does make an interesting story for them to be co-darkloards.

    I have to say the whole portrayal of Ivan was one of the most insulting things about 5e Ravenloft

    I dig the magic the gathering art sprinkled throughout the video. I've been wanting to do youtube videos about dnd lore for a while now. I came across the 2000 printing of Ravenloft, 3e and was thinking of doing a deep dive, but I wasnt sure how well it would be received

      Thanks, glad you like the video. You should do the videos. Ravenloft doesn't have the larger fan base as some other settings, but we have passionate fans of the setting.

    It was a nice touch to build this mistery about Old Ilvin. What might have transpired there so everyone left it's ruins as they were...?

      No idea. It might have something to do with the Joungler, since the new road [or the old one, who knows] is called the Joungler's Way.

    This exemplifies my issue with the new Ravenloft
    Its not that the new domains are bad. Far from it. But they also miss out on what the made the old domains work. I feel like they should have kept the core and made these revised domains their own separate things.
    Ravenloft should have been big enough for both.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a good idea. Why rewrite existing domains if they will be completely different from previous versions? The Mists of Ravenloft could easily house new Domains of Dread, especially if they are all isolated as VRgtR establishes them.

  • @KS-PNW
    @KS-PNW 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Wow, a 5th edition domain that doesn't totally suck lol.
    I think i still prefer the original Borca but this is by far the best of the rebooted domains, IMHO at least..
    Understand why your covering the new donains but I still say the original is better overall.

      But, to your question, I'd use both as new NPCs. I like your suggestions for New Ivana. I might make New Ivan as an unhinged man obsessed with Ivan... one who unnerves the Darklord but still appeals to Ivan's bloated ego.

      In total the 5th edition domains are 17... But I will only cover them after I have covered the classic. This one is from the domains I had already previously covered before the new book. From this lot the only one left is Kartakass.

    • @HouroftheRaven

      @@docnecrotic I have done 8 from the 5e. Falkovnia, Richemulot, Mordent, Dementlieu, Valachan, Barovia, Hazlan and Borca. 9 domains if you consider the video of the House of Lament, that had both versions of the domain. After Kartakass, I will return to 5e after a domain that has a 5th edition counterpart, like Lamordia, Darkon, or Harakir.

    Those two got so gutted. To be nice I'll say that maybe this Ivan might've worked if he was an original character with his own domain and different name, but there wasn't much to do with this version. Ivana fared better, but why is she now some asexual who hates love? It's like taking Garfield the Cat and making him a health nut who hates the taste of pasta.
    I said it before, but I like to joke that nu-Ravenloft is heterophobic given how any mention of straightness (except Wilfred) is either gotten rid of, one of the lovers is dead, or they're made gay.

    • @HouroftheRaven
      @HouroftheRaven  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both Darklords deserved better. Some have interesting new ideas that could be better developed, perhaps into new characters. In fact, I seem to remember an interview with one of the Ravenloft lead designers, reinforcing how they have abandoned the harmful stereotypes from previous Ravenloft, and that in this new Ravenloft would be hard to find a straight character in the mists. I don't mind the diversity and a more inclusive take, I just wish it were created on new darklords and domains, instead of replacing the old ones. It is not like the Demiplane of Dread and the mists are out of space to harbor the new concepts presented.

      for me the %E ravenloft had a lot of cool ideas.
      But they also were ideas that had little to nothing of what made the original domains work. They were completely divorced from their predecessors except in names. Should have made them their own thing from the start.
      The only exception was Tepest which at least presented the interesting idea of what if one of the hags had betrayed her sisters.
      But over all the book was a lot of potential with little pay off.

      @@booley - 5e writers are not creative, all they can do is corrupt the work of others. They immediately set out to race- and/or gender-swap all the Darklords, and made their allegorical Sherlock Holmes gay and crippled. They have zero creativity between them, and I'm glad they're all fired.
      Of course, they still didn't fire all their "sensitivity readers," so we can expect more of the same, from the next crop of hacks.
