Lately, I've been using a Sidewinder V2 for outlining, along with a borrowed coil machine for packing and shading. Additionally, I've integrated a ROVER R-1 RCA - Musotoku Battery Pack with a Bowers Battery Adapter Box to connect to my Sidewinders, allowing me to work from anywhere. I aim to transition away from using my boss's coil machine and opt for a pen that aligns with the compatibility of the Musotoku Battery. I firmly believe in investing in top-notch equipment, so cost isn't a barrier. Could you recommend a pen suitable for packing and shading? It seems most pens would function seamlessly with the Musotoku Battery (RCA). However, the plethora of available pens can be overwhelming, and discerning whether their batteries are proprietary is challenging. What pen would be best for my style (Graphic TRAD/Japanese). FK EXO 4.0 without the Powerbolt? Please let me know what you think!

Man I’m ready to see the app come out I love the flux I’ve done super smooth black and grey so I guess every artist is different when it comes to stroke and style of tattooing
Hopefully I’ll have the app soon to test it and show everyone that it is real and works etc. But you are right everyone is different and it’s all down to what they are used to. I use the flux for everything at the moment. But one of the guys I work with he prefers a shorter stroke machine for black and grey but one of the other guys can do everything from traditional right up to realism with a 2.5 or a 4.0., It is nice though that people who do prefer using the 2.5 or the 3.2 are now able to use a machine that has the same system as the flux.

So this is a Flux with different stroke options and a RCA modul. Was hoping they would do something new like a 5mm stroke option, or a twist system with several stroke options like the Axis valhalla, so you can change the stroke on the fly. It's also strange that you can't change the stroke yourself even by opening it up, instead you need a different machine for every stroke leinght.
It’s probably something to do with the electronics and things like that. Other companies are the same, stigma and Cheyenne. I’d get it if only one company couldn’t change the stroke on the fly, but 3 majour brands producing a pen style machine not being able to do it does say something. If I’m being honest I don’t think you need a 5mm stroke, because you have the forward weight of the flux it’s super easy to line with.

I just ordered the Axys Valhalla with 5 stroke adjustments, you adjust the stroke with a twist while the machine is on even, I haven't used it (Maybe you can do a review) yet but if they managed to make a pen machine where you can change strokes with a twist on the fly I would imagine that FK irons and the others could at least allow you to take it apart and change the cam. Feels like they would rather sell you 3 machines then one or two flexible. But I'm not sure, don't know the logic behind the decision but it feels more like a financial calculation then anything else 🤔
I’ve seen the machine but haven’t tried it. I think possibly in the future that could happen, but realistically a lot of the companies like FK are at the infant stage of wireless machine tech. So I can imagine there would be progressions later down the line, that being said I think you would always have to sacrifice one thing for another.
I have the flux and love it but I recently tried out this random machine I’ve heard from a few tattooers called the Ambition Soldier and it can be had for $170 on Amazon and is crazy good in comparison
Very cool, the only problem I’ve found with the ones from Amazon is the longevity. They tend to not stand the test of time in comparison to machines made by companies like FK irons, Cheyenne, stigma etc.

As i have found their customer service to be extremely poor, i am stuck with a flux and two powerbolts that won’t update, i have been waiting two weeks now for a reply from their customer service, having already sent the machine to the Netherlands for it to be returned having not been collected by the repair team, not sure what to do? Hi… if it’s for a repair contact Killerink as they now have a fkirons repair centre. Other than that it’s all gotta go through their customer service emails etc.

You are right it would be nice to have disposable grips. It would also be nice not to be stuck in a pandemic but..... I think most people can appreciate that the whole covid situation has caused delays on a lot of manufacture processing and what not. Also not to mention prototyping things and making sure it works takes time. Until the disposable option is available you could always use an autoclave.
The exo is promoted with “e give” ready so do you think there is chance the app will arrive with the release of the EXO? I mean we are waiting for a long time for this app. FK irons really advertised something that doesn’t even exist till now. I’m really disappointed by FK not just because of the app but no one is answering my mails.....
Yes thats scam in my opinion. No clear statement for the App. Many people buy the Flux because of the E-give, but no one ever see it. Thats a big joke. And now.. WOW look.. a new Machine with the same promises "E-Give"!... For me its not beter than Flux. Only you need another stroke. But the Move of promotion let me think its only about the money... Hey man. Awesome reviews 🍻 I’m curious if you’ve ever had a problem with kwadron cartridges and the exo? I just got an exo today and I can’t seem to recess the grip far enough without the grip almost coming completely unscrewed. I don’t want to have to cut the plunger on all my carts to have the grip be secure. Just wondering if you’ve ran into this issue ?
Hey! I don’t use kwadron but I have run into that issue with other carts. They have made the thread on the machine longer with the updated flux max, that has eliminated that issue for me.

RCA n wireless adapter are already in the market tho Check out the Stigma Rotary, it’s called Force By stigma Rotary. In my opinion stigma it’s better the FK irons in general
Already aware of the stigma force, made a video discussing its features ages ago and have one on the way. Also without being captain obvious the stigma rca won’t fit the fkux so kinda pointless saying there’s already one on the market when it doesn’t fit this brand of machine. Although I have always thought the rca module was something the flux needed. Stigma do make great machines.
I have spoken to them to confirm that the rca module is cross compatible with the flux and the grips are also cross compatible. We have had our eye on this for quite some time as we noticed the rca module in an insta video FK irons made a while ago. As for will the battery look exactly like it is in the photo, hard to say but probably will, totally agree it does look sleeker but that could be the matt black that makes it look different. I’ll have to wait and see.
hold on so you cant adjust the stroke at all?!... like with the normal gorilla click ergo grip?? I currently use the ergo grip along with an inkjecta but considering going wireless, and FK Irons have the best grips since its comfortable & adjustable plus machines are well made from what I’ve heard. Just a shame you cant adjust stroke like with the click ergo grips...
Currently most wireless pen machine on the market can’t have the stroke length changed at all, also there are a lot of standard tattoo pens that can’t have stroke length changed either. If you want the capability of doing that then a xion and lightning bolt combo would do the trick.
Any way to sync this or similar machines up to a wireless pedal? I want a wireless tattoo machine but I really like working with a pedal. Someone help me figure that out please. I will be eternally grateful
Due to software etc you wouldn’t be able to sync different brands so at the moment there wouldn’t be any cross brand compatibility. I’ve checked with a few companies, so as an example if you had a critical battery and wanted to sync a wireless fort switch it would have to be the critical one. Same goes for stigma and fkirons.
Would you buy this one ove r the flux? I am multi spectrum artist and I tattoo as part of my work. I was looking something without the hassle of carrying cables. But this is cool if I do not have a battery.

There’s no improvements in the EXO despite of the RCA module which I don’t think I need. I’ve got 3 powerbolts. What do you think about it?

I can do black and grey with a 4mm but I think that’s cause I’m just used to it. A lot of it does come down to preference, although i feel you can get smoother shading easier with a shorter stroke. So it comes down to efficiency when tattooing. If you look at my machine drawer I’ve got everything from a 2.5 right up to a 4.2 but I generally use the 4.0 flux.

They are both good machines and both have different features. The exo is direct drive and is a fixed stroke and is wireless. The xion has adjustable give and you can change the stroke length. So it all depends on what you want in a machine.
Thanks. Yes the drive system on the flux and exo is identical. Which means you could get the grip and rca module for the exo and it will work on the flux. Or you could just buy the exo and rca module and your flux batteries will work on it.
All depends on what needle grouping and what you are used to. I use the 4mm and do everything with it. Some people prefer the 3.2 and other like the 2.5 There’s no perfect lining machine, as some are more efficient than others. As an example you would struggle pushing a 18round shader with a 2.5mm stroke but the 4mm wouldn’t have an issue.

The flux and the exo are basically the same machine. The drive mechanisms are the same. The main difference is the grip which I like, the additional rca module which can work on the flux, and there’s 2 additional stroke lengths. I’ve got the flux 4mm and the flux S which is 3.5 so I’d probably go for the 2.5mm one that way I have the full range. That being said though I’d like to buy some of the 40mm fat grips. They look nice

If that is the case then all the other companies who make wireless pens must be doing the same? or perhaps to have it a wireless pen the ability to change the stroke length is not actually possible. As the Rolling Stones say You can't always get what you want.

But those $300 machines aren't wireless specific machines. Complaining about not being able to change a cam on a wireless tattoo pen, is like complaining that you cannot put a performance exhaust on a Tesla. Some things just can't be done yet, or even at all. I'm sure if it was possible to do then all the main "good" machine manufacturers would have done it by now.

This is great I was going to pick up a critical power bolt for my sol nova as the flux 4mm throw is a little long , but this changes everything !

Did u get the 3.2 or 4.0 stroke? I'm torn, I do mostly b&g and alot of lining aswell.

Do you know how to change cam wheel on exo?
It’s all proprietary so if you take it apart you wouldn’t be able to change it unless you took the cam wheel and gear off another exo.

Can’t use the dragon hawk batteries tho. I have about 5 of them batteries and love them
If the dragon hawk batteries have an rca connection then you can use them on the exo.

How does this not make the Flux obsolete? It sounds like it does everything the flux does and a lot more at this point.
It has the same drive system and power bolt as the flux. So you just need the rca module and the same grip as the exo and it’s the exact same.
Not really as the strokes are different and if the battery dies for some reason, you can plug in an rca cable. You can’t do that with the flux.

Run the machine in direct drive or no give. If you are struggling to pack colour then look at your needles or your technique

That battery won’t work in the xion But they have the lightning bolt battery for the xion.

The lighting bolt won’t fit as the machine is thicker but they will be releasing a universal one.

Will this be better than the Spektra Xion?
They are both good machines and both have different features. The exo is direct drive and is a fixed stroke and is wireless. The xion has adjustable give and you can change the stroke length. So it all depends on what you want in a machine.

Thanks. Yes the drive system on the flux and exo is identical. Which means you could get the grip and rca module for the exo and it will work on the flux. Or you could just buy the exo and rca module and your flux batteries will work on it.

Which stroke length is best for lining?
All depends on what needle grouping and what you are used to.
I use the 4mm and do everything with it. Some people prefer the 3.2 and other like the 2.5
There’s no perfect lining machine, as some are more efficient than others.
As an example you would struggle pushing a 18round shader with a 2.5mm stroke but the 4mm wouldn’t have an issue.

It’s better than the sol nova, can’t comment on the neuma 4 as haven’t tried it yet.

The flux and the exo are basically the same machine. The drive mechanisms are the same. The main difference is the grip which I like, the additional rca module which can work on the flux, and there’s 2 additional stroke lengths.
I’ve got the flux 4mm and the flux S which is 3.5 so I’d probably go for the 2.5mm one that way I have the full range.
That being said though I’d like to buy some of the 40mm fat grips. They look nice

Honestly that’s either down to technique or needle choice. I have no issues packing colour, lining and shading with all stroke lengths

If that is the case then all the other companies who make wireless pens must be doing the same? or perhaps to have it a wireless pen the ability to change the stroke length is not actually possible. As the Rolling Stones say You can't always get what you want.

But those $300 machines aren't wireless specific machines. Complaining about not being able to change a cam on a wireless tattoo pen, is like complaining that you cannot put a performance exhaust on a Tesla. Some things just can't be done yet, or even at all. I'm sure if it was possible to do then all the main "good" machine manufacturers would have done it by now.

oh for sure, I think we are at the beginning of the real wireless journey now that all the main machine manufacturers are making them. I think maybe in a few years we could see a wireless pen that can have adjustable stroke length.
