Great videos. New subscriber here. I have been an SG fan as long as I have been playing. An 05 Epiphone SG was my first guitar. I still have it. A coworker, with 30 years of playing under his belt, took me to a guitar store and played 20 different Epi SGs and Les Pauls. He narrowed it down to 3. Then to 1. It has been my mod platform and I still play it. I still get compliments on how nice the neck feels. There is just something about the SG. I would never sell it.
my buddy got one of those in black , I played it, I loved it. I have had the more expensive epiphone SGs and they were decent but not worth what they cost. I have a Gibson SG which is my favorite guitar, I think I will get me a couple of those VEs to go with it, just love the way they play...
Sounds and looks great. I have the 2017 Epiphone SG Special which comes with the killswitch by pressing in the tone knob. It's the glossy finish. Really good guitar.
Impressed with that, the straight into the amp sounds really great. That Gold Top you had a few weeks back was pretty attractive proposition though. 🤔 Noticed you mentioned the flipping wonderful Paul Stafford Cook in the notes on that. He's really something else, fantastic musician.
From Google: Poplars are rapid-growing but relatively short-lived trees. They are widely distributed throughout the northern temperate regions, ranging from North America through Eurasia and northern Africa.
I bought one with the intent of getting a cheap guitar to upgrade and tinker with, but I was still blown away by the initial sound and resonance (which is dependent on the one you get).
The lightness of the poplar is pretty key here as you will pick it up more than if you feel like you need a chain and winch to heave it onto your lap. Since you like all the tactile inputs, maybe a nice set of Seymour Duncan’s will make this the ultimate stealth guitar. Like your take on Crossroads. Cheers!
Cheers Brad, yeah of course, i haven't had a poplar bodied guitar before, good tip about the seymour duncan's and my playing style, i'll check that out further, cheers!
I used to go to the local guitar center back in early 2019, and this was one of my go to guitars. I'm not a beginner and have always wanted an SG but don't care for Gibson. I've always preferred epiphone and man I wish I'd picked one of these things up. This and the older bullet mustang that had the 60s style logo.
I managed to find this online, there are few guitars i'd still like to buy but they rarely come up, one being a 60's MIM road worn strat in white from 2011 (that year had the best look i think), a big Epiphone fan here too!
Hi, mate! You may not know this from my channel, but I played an SG as my main guitar for about 17 years before switching to the Les Paul in the last few. I miss the fret access, but I don't miss people asking if I'm a Derek Trucks fan, every fucking gig! (I think maybe he's the only person people can name that plays slide?!) Anyway, poplar is an interesting choice. I'd have to try one, but the SG has a mid-range thing happening that makes it what it is and I'm curious as to whether poplar would nail that. Also the bolt on thing...I dunno man, I just don't know...ha! Uncovered pickups too, hmmm. Not being a 'purist', I'm definitely not 'pure' haha! But...why call it vintage when the specs are so incredibly not vintage?
Hey mate, yeah i've seen few of your SG videos, by the way...are you a Derek Trucks fan? haha it';s my first SG so i have no expectations or comparison, it's light though! plays well, could do with having a lower action at the nut but easily sorted, overall it's a great guitar, haven't bonded with it yet to be honest so i'll see how that goes! let's catch up soon!
@@DerekPaulGuitar Son of a...haha! SG's are an interesting one. I'm not sure if a bolt on would hang the same, but on a 'real' one everything will seem further left than most guitars. You're either gunna love that or hate it. I like it, feels less cramped. You may prefer the wood if you don't want that nasal mahogany thing, there's really no better/worse, but I did think it was interesting they called it vintage. I think people just slap that description on everything now. Absolutely, any time man.
@@BenFletcherGuitar It's really interesting going down the guitar journey as every guitar you play/own gives you a different/better insight into the intricacies of the instrument, it's a fascinating thing! and you of course are further down that journey than i am :)

Fantastic story and thanks for subscribing, it is a unique and fantastic guitar the SG! Cheers for sharing
I put Grover Tuners on my Epiphone SG. It's Pelham Blue. Can't help but like the neck and pickups - fast action ! 👍
That’s a good mod, I’ll look into that! 👍

I totally get it, it’s just a great playing great sounding guitar, and I love the look of it too!

Really good guitar.
Thanks! I’ve seen that guitar, the kill switch is really cool!
I've got the same one. Sustain for days. I replaced the tuners, nut and swapped alnico 2 magnets for the ceramic and its a killer guitar!

Both epiphones I have are bloody lovely! Sounds so good, Paul Stafford Cook is something else isn’t he! An incredible player! Cheers for the comment
I've been told that SG's are generally weighty, but this is around 6.5lbs, what are your thoughts?
You must have spoken to idiots. SGs are among the lightest guitars you can play.
It’s because it’s a poplar body instead of a slab of mahogany

Throw some locking Kluson style tuners on that guitar and up the look even more...
Hey what year was this SG made?

I've got the black one. Love it.
I do like my Epiphone G-310 SG but I wouldn't say no to one of these.
Congratulations
Thank you!
