I watched the German musical and it was FANTASTIC, I'm saddened that there likely won't be an English production,,, it's so amazing and the vocals in this are incredible!
You may have already seen - the English language premiere will be performed at the Charing Cross Theatre, London Sept - Nov 2023. I have my tickets booked ! It's a fairly small theatre so it might not be such a 'grand' production but I'm sure it will be great :)
I love musical theatre trivia and I love finding these little trinkets: An original Demo of the title song. And then they obviously kept further developing the song, since the lyrics of first two verses and choruses are from the first time Danvers shows I the room during the first act, but the bridge and the last chorus are from the second time they are together in that room during the second act. The verses and choruses in the second act are much more aggressive towards I. That's where Danvers shows her true colors to I. Also, Danvers is obviously sung by Pia Douwes, but who is singing I?
I tried to get the lyrics down but they aren't perfect. Mrs Danvers: It is a lovely room isn't it? Mrs de Winter's private suite. Mrs de Winter: Yes it's beautiful Danvers: Mr de Winter has not entered her rooms since the night Mrs de Winter was drowned MdW : I see. Do you know why... Danvers: Wait listen to the surf. Do you hear? The surf is calling her name. Rebecca Rebecca ... Cast: Rebecca Rebecca Rebecca Danvers singing: Verse 1 This was her bed and here this was her nightgown. Beautiful isn't it Hold it and touch it and feel it It's soft and light I haven't washed it since she wore it for the last time She won't sleep here anymore But she's near all the same Hear the surf it is calling her name Chorus Rebecca wherever you may be life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast voices cry in the air everywhere. Rebecca come back Rebecca your not meant to be a shadow of a ghost. Verse 2 This is her brush her hair was full and dark I brushed it every night She wore satin and velvet she looked like a queen her smile was boyish when I saw her for the last time she won't smile at me anymore but she's near all the same Hear the wind it is calling her name Chorus Rebecca wherever you may be life sings your song as long as waves roar to the coast voices sigh in the air everywhere. Rebecca come back Rebecca your not meant to be a shadow of a ghost. Danverse: She is near She is hear Mrs dW: (Oh No) Danvers : She can see she can hear she's a force you should fear Danvers sings chorus Rebecca Mrs dW: She's Dead wherever you may be dW: She's gone life sings your song as long as waves roar to your ghost She's just a shadow of a ghost Rebecca come back Rebecca dW: I shall not be afraid of Rebecca Cast: You're not meant to be a shadow of Rebecca!
Thank you. This is extremely helpful, and it's generous of you to set out the lyrics for the rest of us. In the chorus, I hear "waves roll to the coast" rather than "roar to the coast."
I feel I need to find a friend named Rebecca get into a big argument not talk for three years and then stand over a balcony and sing this song
Any 3 syllable name that ends with an A will work to be fair. Alyssa for example.
Well, in the musical, less than a year has passed since Rebecca's death... so you don't need to wait for three years (cool, isn't it?)! :D
@@wickedfan811 this will be a challenge
I just watched Wait in the Wings Documentary about the Downfall of Rebecca on the Great White Way. Now, I'm here.
And I just followed the same path. I truly feel like we were robbed of an amazing show...
Same
@@powerfulwitch666 Here’s hoping that now that the English rights are no longer held by anyone, some other competent producer brings it to Broadway
I would have listened to this on repeat if the cast album was made
There are a couple cast albums, though not in English.

It‘s written in the description 😊
@@silver6071 Oh damn, how did I miss that? 🤣
This song has so much lesbian energy and it’s a shame theatre gays in America will never get to experience it
That’s the subtext about the whole story… like why is she so obsessed with the old Mistress of the house.
I tried to get the lyrics down but they aren't perfect.
