TMez, just remember AJ Foyt, who is 89 years old and survived the most dangerous era in auto racing. Why do I bring him up? Because surviving a successful driving career CAN be done, and YOU can do it! Don't give it up, man!
Your heart is in the right place, but that logic doesn’t really make sense. Yes, Foyt survived to have a incredible career during a dangerous era. However, there are dozens or more Aj Foyts and Mario Andretti’s that died racing that we will never hear of, because their lives got snuffed out before they got the chance.
Uh, it appears you didn’t read my last sentence. Might wanna try that. Y’know, one of my best friends father was Chuck Rodee, who was killed May 14, 1966 trying to qualify for the Indianapolis 500, so I know what you’re talking about. But I said “it can be done,” and to not give up. You, sir, are searching for a reason to comment, I gave you none.
I understand you perfectly as I know so many driver and the effort it takes to reach ones goals. You did dedicate your countless hours, days, and life to make it where you are today. But dedicate allll that to safety as well. Some tracks like Terre Haute as you mentioned doesn't allow you the mobility to grab the wheel in the manner you prefer. But how about wearing arm restraints at tracks that won't affect your preference on the wheel? Keeping all your digits on your hands, keeping your hands intact, and keeping your arms in one piece will allow you to continue your dreams to carry on and not end sooner than you want. Remember the dream you're living and worked so hard for? Don't let it end due to tethers. Hopefully this will never happen again, but you can hopefully reduce that risk. I love your driving skills, your demeanor on and off the track, your videos are so neat to watch and see what a driver does behind the scenes. Myself and your fans need TMez!
T-Mez if you haven't already, might think about getting your head checked out. I know you said it feels fine and I know you have had some pretty bad wrecks. Just figured put it out there. My racing career came to an end in 2023 due to a head injury that went undiagnosed. Had a really serious accident at Montpelier and ball parked it out of 3, a couple years ago. Thought I was alright didn't go get it checked out. Couple years down the road Mid/Late 2023 was having some issues and they found out some problems that go back to that wreck. Some of the issues probably could've been prevented if I got it checked out when it happened. That's life though, hindsight is always 20/20. Lost more than just racing from that wreck.
Thomas, as an OLD 73 yr. Old , ex dirt racer, NOTHING else can give you the adrenaline rush of flying into a turn , turning right to go left, stabbing the throttle again and powering thru the turn. And I know a lot of guys that were racers, and gave it up for one reason or another, me,it just got TOO expensive to afford to do, with family, anyway, MOST of us REGRET, that we gave it up, instead of tuffin it out and realizing what our DREAM WAS!! I can say, YES, I’m jealous of ALL you guys, and completely understand what it takes to do what ya do. You be THE BEST YOU, you can be, and ride that dream as long as ya can, and we will keep cheering for ya and prayin for ya too!!👍👍🏁🇺🇸🇺🇸
TMez you are the man bro! For selfish reasons I say don’t ever stop cuz I love you and your content! But the sport benefits from having you bro. Just keep on keeping on brother!!! 👍👍👍😎😎😎
I love that it's a random Thursday, 6 days after one of the hardest crashes he has ever took and yet he still has his steering wheel w him! Or excuse me, he has his resume w him! Lol. You rock TMez!!!
My dad who drove sprint cars for over 20 years around Indiana, Michigan and Ohio told me once after a race that most guys work all week so that on the weekend they can drink some beer and sleep with their wife , but we get to do this ! Thanks for the videos
arm restraints are adjustable, I adjusted mine to where I could reach everything inside the cage but couldnt get my elbows high enough to get over the side bar. My time was back in the mid 80's and wouldnt leave the pits without them.
Man gotta wear arm restraints, Same has happened to me broke my shoulder all to shit. And I have never gotten in a race car again without them. And for what it’s worth I have never had an upper body injury since. Live your dreams brother!!!
my pop took me to san jose speedway on tully rd when i was in diapers. we lived 2 blocks from the track.my dad was semi pro in hill climbs n mx at hollister,we knew the owners back in the 70's.racing is all i ever know,i have seen everything there is that comes with flips/fires/fights etc. ive been on fire 3 times so far,my 4th was the deadliest wildfire in ca history. the 2018 campfire in paradise that burned 90% of my town.ive lost everything ive owned, but it was just another bump in the road to me. keep that attitude that stuff happens in life,it only makes you that much stronger and wiser bottom line.keep strong and keep doing what you love.
I agree with Frank the tank. Don’t let your negative thoughts consume you or you may keep heading that way. You are a great driver and I believe you will have a fun career, just keep moving forward, things will come to you. Keep your mind on that checkered flag, that’s your end goal and I believe in you. Just my two cents worth. I always look forward to watching you race. 🏁
Tough break, literally, Tom. My eyes did the exact same thing from bungee jumping back in the day. That whipping motion is no joke. Youll heal up just fine. Keep the pedal down!!!
You are the best, you summed it up perfectly. I raced sprint cars and midgets for 25 years and had my chimes rang many of times. The parents pushing their kids are idiots.
Best response yet!!! Amen brother! To all the drivers who put it all out there week in and week out, I salute you. I hope you win every race you enter, I hope you find a way to knock those last few tenths of your lap times... I hope you set quick time in the qualifier and then spin in your heat only to come from the LCQ and win the A! Long story short ..Thank you!!! You have no idea how much your effort means to us all! Please don't stop!
lots of people don't understand the danger that us drivers go through, and they think that racing isn't that hard and its not hard on the body when in actual fact it is hard on the body and it is hard to drive race cars.
I used to know 8 time ARDC midget champion Len Duncan. I knew him personally. He worked at the same car dealership that my dad and I worked at. And I know about some of the wild rides that he took in a race car. One very similar to yours at age 70 something. Look up pictures of his wild Flemington speedway ride! They’re on the internet! 😊Actually his entire life was a great ride knowing his biography. It’s too bad he didn’t write a book. Open wheel magazine did his story. 😊
Glad your reasonably ok after a nasty wreck. You.sound good. On Arm restraints; i hope you re-think that, & Figure out how to with restraints to reach as much as needed. Most everybody wears em, it is doable. Dont want to go into all the what can happen w/o. Great content keep it up.
Thomas I have been around racing a long time (over 60 years). I don't want to see anyone getting hurt. The safety equipment that is available now is fantastic. Please use it so that we can watch you race until you don't care to do it anymore. I just went to your store and could not find anything that was for sale. This is when racing fans buy shirts to help a racer out.
You know. I thought about that the other day. My dad put me racing 3 wheelers starting when I was three years old in Taft, Ca. I look back and kind of wonder if they liked me much.
Let the haters hate man! You’re the best out there. Don’t ever give up, don’t quit, shit happens, go show em how it’s done man! This is only a small bump in the road for what’s going to be a killer year!!
Keep digging! I’d go on the road with you in a heartbeat! I grew up with my dad traveling from town to town racing. Miss it! Never give up what makes you happy!! My dad drove sprint cars until he was 78. 😊
Great video TMez! You laid it out perfectly, us racers know the possible risks, but, we love the sport! When you boil it down, it’s not just a dedication, but an obsession! It becomes an inseparable part of us! Also, Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I know racing ''IS'' very expensive but the alternative is you will burn your money elsewhere is living fast is the way you want to live! A life of unfulfilled dreams can be burdensome! Don't ask how I know.. Thanks for sharing 👍
You're an inspiration to blue collar guys like myself who spend their life working away to barley stay afloat. It's about chasing something bigger. I'm 30 and want to start racing. But everything costs money. I'm stickin with it though! Watched you tonight at Angell Park. Always fun watching you race!
Don’t let a woman influence the goal of ur dream ,If it’s not in a positive and supporting way . There are women that will stand by their man that has it. You have it . The drive ,determination and most of all talent . Just never get in a ride unless it has the best safety shit possible .just remember “these are the good ol days “ keep it up youngin!!
You keep racing Brother! Keep making it happen. I drive a gas truck. So some of us do dangerous stuff. Some people get it & some don’t. I can’t wait till you get in World of Outlaws.
Hey Tmez. A young racer popped into my feed, I told him that you produce some sick content. He said "i know, I follow him, he was the inspiration for starting a channel". 👍🏻. Kids name is Levi Henderson Thought I'd let you know. You're inspiring people on your journey. 👏👏👏.
Thats very true, but if choosing to drive a race car, you should use every tool available to ensure your own safety and the safety of your competitors.
My dad grew up with my grandpa racing, John Wolfe. My dad said at the time it was kinda boring and wished at the time he wasn’t there, but 15-20 years later he tells me and says it was the greatest time of his life. Ur kids will appreciate these time Tmez trust. John Wolfe had a career ending injury before I was born but I want to do it because of the story’s so keep going
Hey Man! Thanks so much for sharing. So cool you’re doing what many of us only dream of but didn’t have the guts to take the risk to truly follow our dreams. I run a vintage midget on the dirt tracks of Colorado and Kansas and am fortunate to get just a taste of the world you live in. I run a 50 year old Edmunds with a Mercruiser 181 and the 250hp I’m pulling is enough to get her fully crossed up and sliding at some great tracks in my neck of the woods. Not the same by any means but share the same love of the sport man. Keep it up- you got tons of fans that tune in to watch you do your thing 😊
Hey man, I met you at eldora and told you I loved watching your videos, I always wanted to race but never was able too. My dad is good friends with the simons, and Todd #18 when you drove for him I remember. I don’t comment on TH-cam a lot, but wanted to say I appreciate what your talking about, and how it relates to a lot for me in life (other than the racing part) but keep doing what your doing man, your words were an inspiration for me too go hard at what I’ve been working on, and just chase it man. I do want to see you running wing cars with the outlaws not gonna lie, or just wings in general, have a feeling you would find a lot of success there, and may even be a little safer. (Maybe) but either way man, sending you love and high vibrations man, keep going, when they say you can’t, push 100% more amigo. Keep it up man! Thank you for inspiring me ❤️💪🏻🤘🏻
Exactly why I think 13 year olds and even 16 year olds shouldn’t be pushed to drive high powered race cars. I’ve seen many drivers lose their life. I love and appreciate you’re view on the danger of the sport.
You have always been a great race car driver. Watched you from your start in Indiana. Now you are established in Indiana. Believe in yourself or work for a shock company. Give up your people that don’t believe, we all have a destiny.
love hearing from another racer the real life adventure of racing. it makes me feel better about my life choices racing for a living!! i may be a fender racer but its the same life story, struggles, trials and thoughts. keep pounding. you have a fan here for sure
I'm glad you started making your videos I started rooting for you at Grandview speedway in Pennsylvania watching you do your slide or die racing style you're fun to watch hope you heal up quick so we can see you running with the world of outlaws that will be fun to watch!🏁🇺🇲
Wow. Huge change so fast. From possibly reeling in a huge victory before heading on to a safer, better paying ride( i think you said woo) to pondering the depths of human existence. 😢 Pretty heavy stuff. Great content. Glad you're doing well.
You just got a new subscriber. I'm going to be 67 soon. But I remember years back when I was driving, I thought like you do now. Been through all the up's and downs. But let me tell ya T Mez.. I wouldn't change a thing! Heal up. Then get back in and rip it!
They should make arm restraints mandatory you can adjust them so you can move like you need to my best friend and his 2 boys and now his grandson all use them and you were parked beside 2 of them the other nite
I think you scared the hell out of Kevin Thomas not to mention 99.9% everyone there had eye's on you cuz you made it the most exciting as you always do lol your one hard charging, fun to watch you come through the field like you always do
You do you. Whether it's racing or not racing. You do what makes you happy. We are only here for one short life span. You are one of the top sprint car/midget drivers in the country. You got this whatever you decide. Can't wait to see the next video.
Dude, I raced dirt bikes at amateur level. Always wished I would have tried harder, had more money, ect. When my son was born, I knew I would never tell him to race. He never brought it up, and I’m glad. Honestly.
Never give up on your dream(s). My racing, didn’t have the money, then did but no time. If I was ever given the choice, live the racing life and be successful but only live into your 40’s or have an avg life and live long, east choice, live fast and win and die young and happy.
Personally I helped many sorint car drivers ive driven them myself. In my opinion thats the reason its called America, life , liberty, justice an freedom... Racing will never be safe, flying a air plane will never be safe, driving a car or motorcycle will never be safe... Life has risks access them an move on for better or worse...
I never really thought about the arm restraints, or looked at the drivers close enough before and after they get out of the car. Glad you’ve got the good head restraints, don’t want what happens to Steele, he had only one sided head restraint. Is that chassis on the 23 done and was that the replacement in the shop there?
You deserve every accolade that comes your way but I remember talented guys who never got a break. Ours is the only sport where half the people in the stands think they could have been a contender.
Got a bunch of flak when I broke my back last year in a non-wing car because I got knocked out & my arms flew out of the car (you can see it on my page). Fractured my wrist lightly. The funny thing was that I was wearing arm restraints, my arms are just so long (I'm 6'1) that they don't really do anything in a sprint. If you have the play to be able to reach the top of the steering wheel, you can basically just totally reach out of the car, as I demonstrated last year. People were more focused on my lack of arm restraints than my actual safety in general, so I feel that. Wish I could be like you but I can't get the danger out of my head, I'm putting the wings on for a while until I come to terms with the immeasurable back pain in my 20s lol
it was an earnest conversation, racing is dangerous, its also fun, and challenging, many dream of making a living racing, it isn't easy most even in usac they race but they got other jobs usually related to racing, cars, or auto related, but making a living as a racecar driver takes talent, luck, and a certain skill, even in indiana, where it seems to be the trainning ground of champions in indiana and ohio but also michigan, illinose, and pennsylvania for the winged sprints, or at least that is what many would say of the crop of champions like larson, abru, clausen, bell, the swansons and grant, and all those transplants from the west, this is where they came for a time before moving up. but yea racing cars is dangerous, and sprints without wings prob the most dangerous of the short track cars, but its said if you love something its will cost you, if you love something you are truely willing to give your life for it though in the sense of the priest speaking on the issue it dealt with loving a person, but the more you love something the more you are willing to give to it, just like the followers at pentecost when the flames appeared over their head it was a direct manifastation of their love for God and for the mission they were given, the Spirit gave them the power to do the mission but the flames were said according to the Priest at our church commnity, it was said it was showing on the outside what was on the inside, on fire for God, love will cost you so to also with loving kids you dont get stuff back in return till they are older and you will burn for that love it will cost you, he went on to say though eaither you burn for God now or you burn for it later, but I am not here to judge or proslytise per sey but to talk about the price of love, I know you love to race, you love aspects about it otherwise you wouldn't do what you do or be such a team player helping out in the shop. in the end though it is a dangerous, and wanting to share as you do I can see you like doing it, and your fans appreciate it, and do want you to be able to keep going at the end of the day,
See ya at Red Hill watching the races? Was gonna do the double but Terre Haute is cancelled. Already overpaid for a room in Illinois with the eclipse coming so we're definitely going to that one. New track for us.
Tmez just remember some day this ride will be over and you won’t have racing. I’m not saying hang it up for your kids or girlfriends sake, just maybe consider the future plans… it shouldn’t be this or doing drywall…im sure you’ve aligned your self with partners and such but there’s a ton of racing knowledge in that head that can be useful not just behind a wheel.
"They don't have mandatory arm restraints?" They do in Australia . . At least, I'm pretty sure they do, cause I've never seen a Sprintcar Driver without any.
I don't run arm restraints either. I went for a huge ride a few years back. As a result, I sold 157 tee shirts at my local track from one photograph of me with my arms outta the car. I ended up in a magazine and everything because of it. None of that would've happened had I worn arm restraints. Racing is dangerous. If these guys are scared to race their cars, I tell them to sell their stuff and buy a badass set of golf clubs instead.
Listen TMez . I heard a Jac interview when he thought he might be better off doing something else . '79 ? Focus on Family , Racing and your channel . Try to help 🍺🔥💨💯

Keep chasing your dreams brother. I love watching you do it.
Great perspective. Racing is dangerous but it's how you make your living. Keep digging and heal up fast!! 👊👍😎

Awesome words of thought. Loved it

open wheel dirt sprint car and midget racing needs you to keep racing and winning. Get well soon and try to be as close to 100% recovered as you can.

Love your work CHAMP. Don't even think about quitting, that is not you.
You know racing is probably safer than driving in street traffic theses days.

speaking of arm restraits i got kicked out of a race leading cause i didnt wear arm restraints in a gokart but they didnt tell anyone lol
Keep being you man! Cannot wait for that merch. I’m gonna get a few to help you out!!!! Slide or Die!!!!!!!
What happened to the old seat? You said, your car owner said it almost came out of the car.

JS
love hearing from another racer the real life adventure of racing. it makes me feel better about my life choices racing for a living!! i may be a fender racer but its the same life story, struggles, trials and thoughts. keep pounding. you have a fan here for sure
Rippin’ the lip! Sammy Swindell and yo have been fearless amongst the new breed.
I'm glad you started making your videos I started rooting for you at Grandview speedway in Pennsylvania watching you do your slide or die racing style you're fun to watch hope you heal up quick so we can see you running with the world of outlaws that will be fun to watch!🏁🇺🇲
Won a gator!! Dont forget about the gator!! Glad i was a part of that!
Wow. Huge change so fast. From possibly reeling in a huge victory before heading on to a safer, better paying ride( i think you said woo) to pondering the depths of human existence. 😢
Pretty heavy stuff.
I think you scared the hell out of Kevin Thomas not to mention 99.9% everyone there had eye's on you cuz you made it the most exciting as you always do lol your one hard charging, fun to watch you come through the field like you always do
Love ya. Thomas! Keep living your best life!🏁🏁
Glad your doing better dude !! You do you !! Keep ripping it !! Gonna grab a shirt when they're available!!
You do you. Whether it's racing or not racing. You do what makes you happy. We are only here for one short life span. You are one of the top sprint car/midget drivers in the country. You got this whatever you decide. Can't wait to see the next video.
Get well soon buddy..u are a strong man bro we all here at spazzz motorsports have been praying for you Tmez...
Do it! Live your life. Get the right equipment. Arms, and double up on fire protection. I know it’s expensive, but u can do it! Cya john
Hell yeah on the shirt tho!! Excited!!!
Arm restraints have been mandatory at most stationed Tracks.they should
Keep the spirits up TMez. Hope you can be healed enough to come to Wichita in May
Tmez you are living your best life. You are hero.
Hey maybe get Chet to put you in the booth as a guest.
Well said Thomas. Heal up quick man.
I never really thought about the arm restraints, or looked at the drivers close enough before and after they get out of the car. Glad you’ve got the good head restraints, don’t want what happens to Steele, he had only one sided head restraint. Is that chassis on the 23 done and was that the replacement in the shop there?
Just race, spend as much time with your kids as you can !
Venture on my friend. The sky's the limit! Get back soon.
Tmez, keep racing and get some new shirts on the site I’m holding out as long as I can.
Hopefully it gets better. It’s hard to shake the danger of the sport at times. Time heals most things. Give it some time
Legend, Few more seasons in you yet!
Love you story!
it was an earnest conversation, racing is dangerous, its also fun, and challenging, many dream of making a living racing, it isn't easy most even in usac they race but they got other jobs usually related to racing, cars, or auto related, but making a living as a racecar driver takes talent, luck, and a certain skill, even in indiana, where it seems to be the trainning ground of champions in indiana and ohio but also michigan, illinose, and pennsylvania for the winged sprints, or at least that is what many would say of the crop of champions like larson, abru, clausen, bell, the swansons and grant, and all those transplants from the west, this is where they came for a time before moving up.
but yea racing cars is dangerous, and sprints without wings prob the most dangerous of the short track cars, but its said if you love something its will cost you, if you love something you are truely willing to give your life for it though in the sense of the priest speaking on the issue it dealt with loving a person, but the more you love something the more you are willing to give to it, just like the followers at pentecost when the flames appeared over their head it was a direct manifastation of their love for God and for the mission they were given, the Spirit gave them the power to do the mission but the flames were said according to the Priest at our church commnity, it was said it was showing on the outside what was on the inside, on fire for God, love will cost you so to also with loving kids you dont get stuff back in return till they are older and you will burn for that love it will cost you, he went on to say though eaither you burn for God now or you burn for it later, but I am not here to judge or proslytise per sey but to talk about the price of love, I know you love to race, you love aspects about it otherwise you wouldn't do what you do or be such a team player helping out in the shop.
in the end though it is a dangerous, and wanting to share as you do I can see you like doing it, and your fans appreciate it, and do want you to be able to keep going at the end of the day,
I think you make a great crew chief and still have a foot in racing
glad to hear from you tmez get well soon
See ya at Red Hill watching the races? Was gonna do the double but Terre Haute is cancelled. Already overpaid for a room in Illinois with the eclipse coming so we're definitely going to that one. New track for us.
t mez keeping it real thats why i m a fan.
Keep driving!!! Hell with everyone. Live your life.
Hang in there brother.. It's early in the season.
Sounds like you need to start using the arm restraints. I never had any complications from them.
San Jose's FINEST! kick ass TMez
Anyone got any videos of the wreck from outside that car?
Listen TMez . I heard a Jac interview when he thought he might be better off doing something else . '79 ? Focus on Family , Racing and your channel . Try to help 🍺🔥💨💯
