I lost my oldest son in 2012 to gun violence and I raised my baby son in Lafayette Indiana but had to move to Chicago IL in 2018 6 months into being back my husband was murdered in Rogers park neighborhood now my baby is 18 years old asked me everyday can we buy an illegal gun for protection I have to tell him no and pray for him everyday. It's crazy I have to tell my son baby Keep your name clean so you can own a gun the right way. Before moving here my baby never talked about owning a gun. What do I do except cry and pray and keep in the house. I have a hard time letting him go play basketball at the park and it's across the street from us. We was back 6 months 6 months and now I'm a widow and my son is fatherless and his dad was a ex gangster disciple that died by stray bullets. My son didn't even ever think about guns until we moved back here to Chicago IL. My baby on his way to college and I just pray for him and his friends everyday. I keep him in the house all the time. Family members asks me why do I always walk to the store and don't make my son go... Because I'm scared for him to walk two blocks to the store I rather it be me than my son cause I can't live without him. I lost my oldest son in Milwaukee in 2012 lost my husband in 2019 I can't handle another loss.

God forbid anyone ever take personal responsibility for their actions and the impact those actions have on their community.
That's what I'm confused about because these comments are crazy. They blame everyone and everything except for the individual who commits the crime. They say they have guns for "protection" but how many shootings are done for self-defense and how many are done out of retaliation or another criminal offense? I bet most shootings are done because someone felt disrespected.

You can't have a cop standing guard every 25 yards in a city to make sure people are behaving themselves, that would require hundreds of thousands of additional cops just for Chicago. Nor can the police just start rolling up every gangbanger they see for no reason because maybe if you shake him hard enough a gun might fall out of his pants. Society should not have to have a cop nearby to keep citizens from killing each other. WE need to fix our society ourselves, not cry to the police or the Presidents or the Mayors to do it for us.
Because that isn't working.
