why do you take the snyder cut? So that your little narritive fits? 1-Eternals is underrated! 2-Snyder is MASSIVELY overrated! 3-Snyder Cut is not canon, you should`ve taken the normal JLA Movie 4-The normal JLA Movie is a piece of sh...becuase Whedon isn`t a wizard that can write a gold Movie out of the ripped rests of the snyder cut that WB gave him! Stuff like this , this twisting and spinning until things fit how you want it, is why nobody takes "DC only" Fans serious!
What I liked about ZJSL is that Batman didn't put all his bets on Superman returning, in fact they left Superman as a last trump card. The original team devised their own plan and went on to fight Steppenwolf according to it and left Superman's return on faith.

I just wanna add that the thing you pointed out about Sprite being contradictory, I would argue is a vital part of her character. She is the eternal child and most children have an inflated view of their maturity or their readiness to grow up.
@@diegovazquez3566 From my limited understanding by skimming the TvTropes page (and y'know, watching any manner of political anything), experience does not equal wisdom, it just means experience. Assuming that there are similarities in anatomy, the Eternal youth Sprite, may have had this especially bad, as humans do not finish growing the part of the brain that handles long-term consequences until age 25. Only being granted the ability to grow as a human after everything has been said and done, Sprite may have been stunted in her ability to meaningfully plan ahead for ages.
@@diegovazquez3566 she is very old but her brain never developed past the level of a child. Having 1000s of years of experience does not mean much is those experiences are processed by a child’s brain.
I disagree, Sprite was trying to convince the others that she wasn't a child because she actually wasn't; she's a space-robot like the rest of them with an equal amount of time on earth to gain experience and knowledge.
Idk man I cared about the characters in that final battle and thought they could die. Ikaris did kill Ajak even if HOW he did it meant he didn’t “technically” kill her. That’s like saying scar didn’t kill Mufasa the herd did so should we really see him as a threat? And what I loved most was that they weren’t fighting because of mind control, or cloning, or misunderstanding they legitimately had a difference of mindsets that drove them apart and that can’t just be reversed so easily which means things could get ugly. I enjoyed externals
It was something unique and never before tried and I love it for that. And honestly I enjoyed the whole movie, if anything, my only complaint is that the Eternals could have used a power boost but it's more of a nitpick on my part. And honestly, this could have been a 2 parter, to just really flesh out and so I can see some of my favourite characters get more screen time. But even without it, it was great. And I understand why they didn't go for a 2 parter, it would have been too much of a risk from a lot of point of views.
While I agree that Eternals would have benefited from being a TV show, but I dont think enough people realise how unrealistic that happening actually was. Having the same Actors, locations, VFX's using a TV budget would have either resulted in something like the Inhumans's, or would have made this easily one of the most expensive Marvel show to make. And I don't see Marvel taking that risk with a show based around completely brand new characters.
That is a good point. However, I think most Marvel fans won't be against a long format media version with alternative art style. Like, not everything has to be live action cgi. Various forms of animation exist and I hope they stop shying away from them in the future. The What If series proved the proof of concept already.
those actors were all horribly miscast anyway. And just look at the incredible production values of Wandavision and Loki. It definitely wouldn't have been worst than the movie.
Whoever thought this video was a good idea clearly had no clue on the differences of this film. Eternals is a film but no where near the height of an avengers film and justice league is suppose to be dcs version of avengers so why don’t u compare avengers and justice league then u can debate it!
Real answer for this video: Everyone is familiar with the JL characters and had 3 previous movies and decades of history for people to lean back on and character development for people to "care" about the characters. Eternals had none of this and half of the runtime. Hard for people to get invested in a movie or characters.
@@uvindukulathunga3860 Nobody who was reasonable asked for X-Men already. The dreadful Dark Phoenix came out a month before Eternals started shooting, what are you talking about?
Wow. I actually had the opposite reaction coming out of watching Eternals. I felt eternals was what Zach wanted to do with his films. IMO liked both, but I love Eternals more.
Yeah, this is probably what more or less Zack Snyder would have created if he didn't leave mid production. No way he would release 4 hours movie. He would cut it down. And it would end up looking more or less like Eternals.
Seriously, I just clicked and haven't watched yet but that's a huge caveat. A movie that wasn't released in theaters so run time was irrelevant and it could be four hours long isn't subject to the same limitations. I feel like this is a terrible comparison. Hell, Justice League is an hour longer than Endgame! Which is a movie that wraps up the 20 movies before it!
@@cthomas025 yeah seriously ryan really digging for this comparison to barely make sense also why compare eternals to justice league? not at all comparable, eternals are comparable to the new gods from new genesis and apokalips
Even though I didn't really like the Eternals movie, I think it's quite unfair to compare ANY Superhero movie to the JL Snyder-Cut. I mean, when you have months of feedback for the original movie, additional money and 4 hours of runtime, you can probably make any bad movie "passable". Imho, the biggest error of the DCEU was that they rushed it, just to "match" the Avengers' success.
Firstly, Nolan told Zack Snyder to not to watch the theatrical cut. And to this day he never watched the JL movie to know how bad it is. The only add on scenes in the Snyder Cut is the Martian Manhunter scenes with Martha and Bruce. Rest of the movie had only post production left to wrap it up.
@@indrajithk2561 Of course, he didn't watch the theatrical cut. Didn't read reviews. Didn't google it. He completely avoided the Internet and everyone who wanted to spoil him, until his Cut was finished. Because that's how famous Hollywood directors roll today - completely analog and willing to take risks. 🤡
I think Chloe Zao did a fantastic job when she said it’s inspired by Zach Snyder’s work. Well it disappointed alot of people it had confusing plots and reasoning, it had bad writing and inappropriate sex scenes oh the fight and cgi was good… so yeah She delivered what she promised
Wrong. It was the original movie that got chopped & screwed into what ended up being released in theaters. ZSJL was the movie and Josstice League was the vastly inferior version of what was supposed to be the original.
@@suisui7481 the Eternals have been around for 40+ years…. The fact of the matter is they are just not popular or all that interesting outside of diehard comic fans and not even the MCU can change that.
So it boiled down to because 1 movie is 4 hours long and had time to flesh out characters, while the other did not? Would probably be more fair to compare Eternals to the theatrical release of the Justice League.
To be fair, I think most people liked Makkari/ Druig & Gilgamesh/Thena despite their little screen time. Most would agree a longer screen time to get to know the characters and their motivations would work much better. Like on Disney+ One gripe against this I heard though is that the graphics/visuals would have suffered (but Wandavision was good though? So save the huge CGI fight to like episode 6 or 7). The main couple got the most screen time but personally didn't "feel" their love or chemistry, and I walked away thinking Ikaris was an uncaring, unfeeling, duty-first android with no-human traits despite living among them for centuries. I agree with Kingo. He should have cared the most. And we didn't even get a name for the villain. Only comic book aficionados would recognize him while most audiences would understand him as a Deviant who obtained consciousness... but is he an anti-hero or a villain? It isn't clear. Sprite should have been at least indifferent but siding with Ikaris because of crush that is told the audience mid-movie is a little out of left field. The Black knight/Blade references would have gone over most non-comic readers heads especially since it was tacked on at the end. I think emotionally, I probably connected more with Druig, Phastos, Thena & Gilgamesh, Makkari (because she's a sweetheart), then Ajak (probably because I saw her as the mother figure). The long and short of it is, the characters and the plot needed more "breathing room." Instead of a rich, smorgasbord of ideas, motivations and plot elements, shrunken down to 2 hours reduced it into a bland, not messy but tangled narratives and dull characters, which would certainly be likeable had we seen more of them. And more "show don't tell" elements would help loads.
Here's the thing as well, the film sets up the next one focussing on Thena, Druig and Makkari as the main characters focussed on in this one were taken by Arishem. There's a huge great big sign saying "Hey, they'll be the focus of the next one so just hang on, we've got a plan."
I would like to point out that those are DC's A list heroes where the Eternals were never really front and center in the Marvel Comics. And they had to make a different cut just to make the Justice League bearable
I loved the Eternals, and I had no problem connecting to them. And they did have complex relationships. Like you have them in a family - some are closer, some are not and some don't like each other. And most of them had not seen each other for 1000 or 2000 years. And I would compare ZS Justice League rather to Endgame. It did not include origin stories like the Eternals. Eternals had to tell the origin story and have a story line in the present and set up later movies. That was so much different than what ZSJL was, which could jump right into action with heroes everyone knew and some of them had a history known from other movies. You can't compare them.
Same, ive liked eternals and have even rewatched it twice! It has its problems, namely the handling of the deviant kro, but besides that it was really good! It felt rather separate from the MCU at large, had pretty good character writing, visuals were incredible, and I actually enjoyed the larger themes!
I agree. It also feels weird to compare the movies when one is almost twice the length of the other. He says Eternals would have done better as a show- but probably also would have been better if it was 4 hours long.
It was almost all shot already. Nothing was reshot. And the additional money to was finish the CGI. And it wasn’t 5 hours. How have you not read any of this already?
Eternals feels like a while separate story and world to the rest of the MCU. The Celestials have been used as an Easter Egg but don't seem important at all in the midst of the multiverse getting all wishy-washy. I expected to see our learn more about them in Those L&T but again they were just a background shout-out. Seems like their backstories were meant to take shape in the exchanges of dialogue between the characters but only hinted at references. The deviants still make no sense to me and why aren't Celestials trippin over the multiverse getting cracked a couple of times already?
Yeah, same - it’s always weird to me that the same people who complain about the MCU following a format are the same ones who disliked Eternals. And it’s weird to see ZSJL compared to anything since, by most objective measures, it still isn’t a very good movie.
You're holding it against the Eternals that you pretty much felt that none of them would die in the final battle (when--in fact--some of them DID die in the film), but not holding that against the Justice League? You thought one of the Justice League members was going to die??? In that direction of the argument, absolutely no comparatively higher stakes in Snyder's Justice League existed. For my own part, I definitely thought Druig might have kicked the bucket, and you misrepresented Ikaris' role in the death of Ajak. He didn't just "not save" her; he freaking gave her to the Deviants.
Love your videos. I do not get why people dislike Eternals. To me, it is basically just an Avengers 1 level threat, with an awesome team of heroes. except, we don't have to sit through all the boring scenes like we did in Thor 2 or Iron Man 2.
@@Dan55888 God, dude. The obnoxious throaty wailing everytime Diana was on screen was so unnecessary. Everything about Batman was wrong. The Joker's new scene didn't make his portrayal in Suicide Squad any less cringey. Zack Snyder doesn't really understand any of these characters, so yeah, he made a subpar, unnecessarily long and drawn out clusterfuck.
I disagree with Ryan's take on having an emotional stake in the Eternals' final battle: Most of the Eternals - sans the most powerful of them, Ikarus - were trying to evolve from what they recently learned (5 centuries after breaking up) the Celestials originally programmed them to do. This conflict kept my interest knowing they've spent centuries concealing their powers - including not fighting against Thanos. Yep, Sersi may have looked purposeless at the start of the movie however she had to push her powers beyond her limits in order to stop the Celestial in the Earth from being born AND be the new Eternals leader. Despite this difference, I'm still a big fan of this channel.
“That final battle was underwhelming and kind of anti-climactic.” or “that CGI battle was a bit too much”. Just have them kill themselves at the end next time and save time then I guess.
Right? I don't understand how people can like Snyder cut so much. It was proping up a corpse and pretending to make a movie out of a pile of garbage, in the end it was still garbage, just more explained garbage
Eternals should've been a series rather than a 2 hr movie...you've got 10+ characters who have been living on earth for 1000s of yrs, you could've fleshed out more character development with the Eternals and Deviants
They tried a superhero team series - its called Inhumans - and it lacked the budget to showcase the characters' powers effectively over multiple episodes... Eternals is in the same boat - To really do the characters justice they need the budget of a cinematic release, which means having less screen time with each character.
With the mixed reviews and being disappointed with the Shang-Chi and Black Widow films, I thought I was going to hate this movie, but I actually enjoyed it. It’s not your typical Marvel Superhero movie, felt like a big budget Art-House flick too me. As a 50 year old man I think this movie shows how generations are different. This movie had the pace of a Stanley Kubrick film. Let’s put it this way. If 2001: Space Odyssey came out now it would probably bomb at the movie theater, because people now expect movies to move in a faster pace. When came to watching this film , I saw influences of Blade Runner, Highlander, A. I., Terminator 2, also 2001: Space Odyssey.
At the end of the day what Eternals really needed was a Zack Snyder-like stylistic flare. Because next to its underdeveloped characters, Eternals’ biggest flaw is that it never actually lives up to the scope and scale of its own ambitions. It’s not nearly as intimate or massive as it thinks it is.
I’m a fan of your Easter egg videos and your takes but either I’m alone on this or not your target audience but I had the opposite take . I loved Eternals and connected with all of the characters . I would have loved a 4 hour Eternals movie but that was not on the table and neither was a series. What we got was a beautifully shot cinematic film that I ate up hook , like and sinker. How can you compare an introductory movie with brand new characters to a film with characters that are intrenched In pop culture? All I can say on the subject is that I have seen Eternals multiple times and I’ve gotten something new out of it each time and watching the Snyder cut once was more than I needed. That movie was not for me.
Eternals really doesn’t get the love it deserves, it’s one of those that will get popular in time and I’m going to be one of the first to say I liked it from the beginning. 👍🏼
Finally a face off where DC has a upper hand over Marvel, I think instead of only focusing on giving the forward movement Marvel and DC should give good stories consistent of the heroes' characters
@@Azombination What? How? BvS was awful and MoS was good, but was it better than Iron Man? Winter Soldier? Ragnarok? As an aside I'm still so pissed that they wasted Cavill. I really love him in the role, they just couldn't write him well.
Honestly DC would be much better represented in my top 5 comic movies than the MCU. Don’t get me wrong I go to the theater with my son for every MCU installment, but few of them are really that great on their own. DC is very hit and miss, but when it’s good it’s very good.
One of my biggest gripes with Eternals is that it should have been a Disney+ show. Why wonder woman is better than captain marvel? Black panther vs Lion king? Why Avengers infinity war worked and Last Jedi didn't?
In terms of run-time yes - with a longer runtime though comes a more thinly stretched budget. The powers of the Eternals require a lot of VFX - which means a Disney+ show budget simply wouldn't cut it.
Well, if I was given a year and 70 million dollars to rework a movie that cost 300 million dollars and was supposed to be already finished I suppose I could have made that work too
Eternals worked great for me. People went to see Eternals not knowing what to get but they got a deconstruction of old DC tropes and an inconsequential re-imagining of DC heroes and didn't even notice the absolute genius of it. People went into Justice League with only a vague idea of DC heroes looking for a better understanding of the original tropes but they got an inconsequential re-imagining of DC heroes and didn't even realize the idiocy of it.
even the surface level theme of driving your own path outside what God gave you was really moving, at least I thought! I dont know how more of this didnt resonate with people
@@boreddude3898 Fr. The characters in Eternals were analogs of superhero genre concepts and philosophies and THAT is what the movie was about more than the literal characters themselves. It was an achievable goal, and they nailed it. Eternals was entirely free to BE a deconstruction and subversion of tropes, and that's WHY it TOTALLY worked. JL, however, should have been a celebration and justification of those same tropes, reinforcing their relevance for a modern audience. All Snyder and WB managed to do was give us an obnoxious bad faith take on a world they should have just presented in a way that was true to the source material and reflected the good intentions of the tropes within. But, DC insists on being "mature" and cynical about their own characters, constantly deconstructing them instead of actually trusting them to be what they are - VERY lame imo and neither JL worked for me AT ALL.
@@dannyorange9023 You name another thing I notice with a lot of modern movies, especially with DC, and its that edgy "mature" style that gets shoe horned in to try to convince the audience its better than it really is. its only as noticeable with DC, though, because in my opinion it just doesn't work having every character be gritty when most of them are supposed to be icons of hope. Even then though, Snyder falls short on THAT, and its incredible how even with a 4 hour runtime they were still only able to make something surface level and passable at best
@@dannyorange9023 Beyond that, I feel like a lot of hate marvel is getting recently seems kind of out of nowhere? The criticisms films have been getting recently (cant talk on thor 4, nobody was free to watch it) have seemed really all over the place, and most discussions of their quality seem to ignore quality of previous films. Like, there is no way in hell Eternals and Doctor strange 2 are among the worst in the franchise. Its incredibly weird seeing people suddenly talk about how Thor 2 is better than film A or B when at the very least recent films have made SOME attempt to have their own unique identity, not just in genre but visual style
They both worked in their own unique way for what stories they were both trying to tell they both have their own unique charm Can we stop comparing things and just let things coexist The closest thing they have in common is that Chloe zhao based ikarus’s characterization on cavil’s portrayal of Superman
Actually if you looked at them or bought them, the lego set for the spaceship gives the lead devient the name of Kro. The deluxe action figure which was possibly an exclusive to some store also was called Kro.
It's wrong to compare these two movies. Justice League is not only double the length but is a TEAM movie. Eternals is an ensemble movie. This is the biggest thing that people get wrong when comparing Eternals to other suphero movies.
I thought eternals was good it was different but with all the familiarly of the mcu it was a nice different change, I enjoyed the final battle it was interesting and had good moments of hyped
Marvel is making the same mistake the Josstice League. Eternals should be at least 2 films long. They just cut 2hours worth of God butchering in Thor as well.
Ryan, I’m disappointed by how off the mark you are about so many of the points you made about the Eternals. There are plenty of stakes and danger in the final battle, and people did believe that any of their lives were in danger because you have 10 new characters with no fan favorite/plot armor to keep them alive, and two of them have already been killed. Even at 3 on 1 odds they can barely slow down Icarus, plus Thena could turn on them all randomly. Then the Deviant shows up, and they now have to fight to keep it and Icarus apart, but still beat both of them in time to use the uni-mind. And they freaking lost. Icarus beats them, and his love for Cersi is the only thing that saves them. because the pain he's been enduring since he killed Ajax was already bad enough, plus the now exposed betrayal and hate his family now has for him. He couldn't have bared to hurt Cersi any further. The thing that just flat out angered me, was your claim about Sprite. She didn't turn on her family over some crush. Just like Claudia in Interview with a Vampire, Babydoll in Batman TAS and Monster girl in Invincible, her permanent childhood has been hell. Her introductory scene in the bar literally points that out. For over 7000 years she had been a child and will be limited for her eternity, and if her only release is being rebooted and you literally have a cosmic deity giving you an out and saying it's right, a very depressed person is probably going to take it. Her feelings for Icarus were just a factor that made it easier to do. And her family understands that too which is why they forgive her, especially after seeing Icurs leave in shame. Families fight but they also make up. Saying it's just some childish crush further enforces my belief that many detractors of this film either don't pay attention well enough, easily forget key information or are not able to understand deep characterization unless it's spoon-fed to them. Kingo didn't care about his film legacy, he literally said he only cared about “not fighting his family.” He believed in the utilitarianism of Arishem's plan. He said it wasn't their right to change it. Even his buddy Karuan understood this and didn't beg him to change his mind, and he is human. They are immortal gods, they don't have the same outlook as humans. Icarus purposely cut himself off from humanity when he found out the truth so it would be easier to do what was right. Cersei was more than “just someone who loved people”, she showed Humanity how to grow and thrive, she was basically the surrogate mother to humanity. She is the first of them to make contact with humans, and it's with a child. And in the present day, she is a teacher of children. All of her flashback scenes are about growing and creating life, and now she is fighting to save it. Phastos initially wasn't going to go because he didn't think they could do anything to stop it, and wanted to spend the time he had left with the people who gave him a life worth living and love after being alone for over 500 years. That reason has been validated in real life and stories since the beginning of time. And why would he think they had a chance of stopping it? He just found out that Ajak has been killed, and everything they were told was a lie, and the best plan they had was based on Druig, who he was not only constantly at odds with in the flash backs, but also the reason the family broke up in the first place after blaming Phastos' technology. I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!! I even went and personally message all the people who helped you on the Mrs. Marvel videos and thanked them for their help and hard work. Screen Crush is my first go-to spot after I'm done with my favorite fandom media. I've seen you infer so many things from the smallest word usage or scene framing, or sound byte or song usage. So i know you don't need everything to be laid out like a road map. This movie gave viewers more than enough scenes and moments to establish these relationships. I have yet to meet anyone who said they weren't excited to see more of Makkari and Druig together and the fandom that has sprung up around their friendship. Or anyone who wasn't a huge fan of Gilgamesh and very much into his relationship with Thena. The character scenes gave us more than enough to fill in the blanks to their family dynamics….unless you are someone who has never had one, nor watched any media about families. If this wasn't an MCU movie, or even just came out before everyone wanted to see everything connected and spelled out immediately, it wouldn't fall prey to these kinds of criticism. No one was commenting on how quickly Neo was bonding with Morpheus even though they barely hung on in screen time shown, and event that time was just exposition dumps. Or Trinity falling for a guy she barely knows, and once again barely spent much screentime with, but no one has a problem thinking he’d sacrifice himself for Morpheus, or Trinity’s just meet your true love confession would work. We know that characters bond and interact off-screen. This film is in my top 10 favorite MCU movies for how different and refreshing it is. And while it may be the lowest rated, more than half the people who saw it liked it, and in many of them flat out LOVED IT! It’s weird how so many people on and offline i ask about the movie love it as much as i do and deeply connect to it, and just as baffled by people who say they didn’t feel anything for these characters. But I don't have an issue with that. I only take issue with arguments that the filmmakers didn’t do their job correctly to give the story and characters enough time to tell it right because so many people did feel like did about it. They could have done more, but they definitely did enough to make it engaging and fulfilling. Plus you finally get an amazing final battle with no CGI army, and with real stakes that feels like a battle between gods and you can clearly see what is happening and the strategic battle tactics of a team working like a batte-tested unit.
I wanna create a 1000 fake accounts and like this comment just so more people can read this wonderfully worded piece. THIS, this is what I have been looking for, forever. You made my day, kind person. And also, I think the movie suffered heavily from bad word of the mouth reviews most of which are immature. More and more people went in to watch the movie hearing bad stuff and subconsciously that's all they saw. The bad stuff. And don't get me started on review bombing cuz of LGBT and other representation this had. Honestly, one of the best movies out of Marvel. Definitely Top 10.
I've been saving this video for a year because I planned to watch Eternals first to avoid spoilers but man I just couldn't get into it. Now that I've finally watched this video I realize I didn't miss anything lol
I can see how this could have worked much better in long form, by say playing up not superman as some kind of paragon of loyalty and giving him enough saving the day moments throughout a season having him not so much turn on his team but be the only one to stay loyal as his team turns on him and their space god could give that actual emotional impact and if there are say galaxy wide steaks that make it important for the birth of this new eternal where there is a real argument to be made that sacrificing all of earths people would actually save more lives than it would doom.
Eh I like eternals.. felt like they could have gone deeper and further into history and the mythologies they supposedly created. Will admit that sprite was just a terribly written character arc
+"But Ryan, why nobody mentions a celestial getting out of the sea in any other marvel movies?" -"Because no one wants to remember that shitshow. For screencrush, i'm Ryan Arey"
Don’t know found ZJSL a 4 hours long torture! There should been an individual movie to introduce the characters like MCU and not stretch a movie for 4 hours…
Idk man. I've yet to finish the Snyder cut after trying numerous times to get through it. I've watched Eternals from start to finish like, 5 times. I get that I probably like that movie more than most people, but I don't think there's enough of a leg to stand on to call Snyder cut empirically better.
Finally a sane person. Watching the Snyder cut was probably one of the most painful things I ever did lol. I have never seen the other version but it just has to be better just for being over sooner…
SAAAAAAME!!!! I had to push myself to finish the movie. Eternals was something I didn’t think was amazing but a solid film from beginning to end. I liked the characters way better than the ones Snyder tried force feeding us.
Nice try Ryan.. The trend now of movie vloggers specially Critics is to hate on Marvel Studios to bring back the hype to the DCEU franchise. It's understandable because MCU dominates the super hero films genre. Like Thanos said "Perfectly balanced as all things should be". Lets make everyone happy. But not this kind of comparison video wherein people that supposed to see and like both of the movies will hate it because of such biases.
Like I said in a Filmento video WHY would a celestial create an Eternal, a being designed to be perfect to be deaf? Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Phastos’s son to be the one who is deaf? An eternal who can create anything, except a way to cure his sons disability. Doing that shows that he doesn’t need to create everything
"Makkari uses her cosmically powered super-speed to scout planets and as the only deaf Eternal, she is not affected by the sonic boom that accompanies her cosmic running. The ability to hear would hinder the use of her super-speed, implying that deafness was part of her design, rather than a dysfunction." This is based on Lauren Ridolff and Chloe Zhao's statements regarding why Makkari is deaf.
@@suisui7481 They are robots though so the explanation doesn't really work. I think making her deaf so she can in a way relate to the people of Earth would make more sense. I guess there would be some plot holes with that but the other one also has one 🤷♂️
@@Genemon123 false they are synthetic beings that feel pain and are identical to humans, basically they are even more advanced vision. they are not robots and they tell us that in the movie
I think if they made a 6 episode anthology series on Disney+ where each episode told a short story about a different character, the movie would have been a lot better. The avengers had basically 5&1/2 movies to develop fewer characters than the eternals.
I had a really rough few months personally where I watched Eternals and Encanto-seemingly a very odd combo!- more or less on repeat. The truly odd thing was how much they had in common: both were about inherited trauma, and the troubles that come from trying to read REALITY in that circumstance. People do what they have to, and it hurts, but is necessary. I’m serious, the combo sold me. @ScreenCrush when the CC glut has passed do a trauma vid. ✌️
I mean, the ''problems'' with the Eternals could've been solved with 2 hours more of runtime or cutting half of the cast off. I think the real ''problem'' with Eternals is that it was a movie too ambitious for a comicbook movie of characters that nobody really knows, because even if the Snyder Cut didn't shown us anything about Batman, Flash or Superman everybody knows them and know exactly what they stand for and what their goals are, that's not ''clever screen writing'' that's just pop culture. Also, the slowmo Flash and Iris scene in ZJLA sucks balls.
oh yeah because everyone knew gaurdians of the galaxy before their movie but also true, justice league is not comparable to eternals justice league is comparable to avengers while eternals are comparable to new gods of new genesis and apokalyips
If you thought eternals was about punching things and explosions than that's on you. I do agree that a longer format would of been ideal but that just shows you how good it is that you want more
I love this channel, but this video had a whole different vibe, outside of you running your ad for the game twice, you had like 20 different quick cut/sound bite jokes which took away from the nerdy deep dive into the topic at hand. Not trying to be a hater. Huge fan of the channel, but this video is just way different than the others and not sure why. As soon as I watched Enternals I said, it's not terrbile, just OK. Should have been a Disney+ show, each character getting their own episode and a final episode, possibly an extended one, to showcase the finale.
@@silentsaturn7604 inhumans wasn't under the Feige/Disney umbrella so maybe it would work better ... maybe, trouble is the Eternals aren't a short story and a single movie tries to make it so.
The Eternals may look like humans, walk like humans, & talk like humans, but they aren’t that’s sort of the point of seeing their experience on Earth throughout the film. They don’t have refined emotions, they never grew up, or aged, they have no childhood memories or relatives etc. I believe that’s one of the intentions of the film, showing these synthetic beings living here but still not fully experiencing it all, they are essentially malfunctioning. Which would explain why they don’t carry out the Celestials objective. Overall these two films aren’t all that comparable, aside from being Comic Book properties. One’s apart of larger anthology (MCU) while the other is the original vision of the filmmaker (Snyder Cut).
I find it hard to believe anybody cared about the Eternals enough to consider it divisive. Comparing a standalone movie to a team up with multiple character building movies behind it is a dumb premise. And Joss’s flash got him a standalone movie. Attack the actor all you want, but before the fall he was building quite the following. A highlight of an otherwise long movie that felt long. Twice.
I liked Eternals, it was beautiful with great actors, but I agree, jamming 5000 years into a 2.5hr movie didn't work. I'd have liked a long form series too.
I agree with a lot of the points, but by the time the final battle in ZSJL came, I was just exhausted. Felt like more of the same. I didn't care that much.
I could not disagree more with this take on Snyder's movie... The Josstice league for all its flaws - and they are myriad did one thing right - He achieved better characterisation of every one of the Justice league characters in 2 hours than Snyder did in 4. The Cyborg subplot of this movie is mostly exposition of his powers, and his father's death is tacked on gratuitously because the character's resolution to that is overshadowed by the final battle. As for its comparison to Eternals - although I agree that the Eternals are not given long enough to ingratiate themselves with the audience - the structure of the movie does introduce them one or two at a time to allow us to explore each of their subplots... Both Snyder's movie and Zhao's are episodic... One (Zhao's) needs longer episodes... the other (Snyder's) is bloated to the point of absurdity. Its also telling that Eternals is a film entirely about the human condition - tackling issues like free will, dementia, religious doubt and zealotry, and abortion... The Justice league has plot-lines about grief and loss - but it doesn't adequately say anything about them... any themes are glossed over in lieu of action sequences. I'd rather watch Eternals than Josstice league... I'd rather watch Josstice league than submit myself to ZS Justice League.

I agree and most children/teenagers are known to change their views and minds on a dime
But she is thousands of years old so how is she still a child? Isn't she supposed to be wise?
Agreed
That is a good point. However, I think most Marvel fans won't be against a long format media version with alternative art style. Like, not everything has to be live action cgi. Various forms of animation exist and I hope they stop shying away from them in the future. The What If series proved the proof of concept already.
Don't use same expensive actors then???
It's not like there is a draught of actors. VFX can be compromised to an extent, without making it look bad.
It had as much chance as the snydercut getting a theatrical release imo...Dc is just more desperate
those actors were all horribly miscast anyway.

Same sane same JUSTICE FOR ETERNALS
Yeah, this is probably what more or less Zack Snyder would have created if he didn't leave mid production. No way he would release 4 hours movie. He would cut it down. And it would end up looking more or less like Eternals.
I think the reason Znyder Cut worked is because it was over 4 hours long.
If eternals had that kind of time, it would have been way better I think
Seriously, I just clicked and haven't watched yet but that's a huge caveat. A movie that wasn't released in theaters so run time was irrelevant and it could be four hours long isn't subject to the same limitations. I feel like this is a terrible comparison. Hell, Justice League is an hour longer than Endgame! Which is a movie that wraps up the 20 movies before it!
Exactly, simple as that.
@@cthomas025 yeah seriously ryan really digging for this comparison to barely make sense

20 minutes was too long.
Rest of the movie had only post production left to wrap it up.

also of people knowing all the charcaters from pop-culture for past 60 years
No, it's technically the 1st version. Josstice League is the second version.
Like on Disney+
One gripe against this I heard though is that the graphics/visuals would have suffered (but Wandavision was good though?

FACTS
One of the shittiest takes I've seen but not surprised seeing who it's coming from
I loved the Eternals, and I had no problem connecting to them.

I wasn't aware the snider cut worked. Better than the original, but that's a low bar to clear.
I don't think that Eternals didn't work. It was a very unique movie. I loved it.

Ikr, Ikaris literally threw her to the wolves.
Love your videos. I do not get why people dislike Eternals. To me, it is basically just an Avengers 1 level threat, with an awesome team of heroes. except, we don't have to sit through all the boring scenes like we did in Thor 2 or Iron Man 2.

I think the Snyder cut managed to meet expectations because the Whedon cut set the bar sooooo low.

Bingo!
Justice League Dark VS Multiverse of Madness!

Eternals should've been a series rather than a 2 hr movie...you've got 10+ characters who have been living on earth for 1000s of yrs, you could've fleshed out more character development with the Eternals and Deviants
I feel the same way
They tried a superhero team series - its called Inhumans - and it lacked the budget to showcase the characters' powers effectively over multiple episodes... Eternals is in the same boat - To really do the characters justice they need the budget of a cinematic release, which means having less screen time with each character.
The eternals was excellent, that movie was soooooo good
I’m confused, which of these movies worked?
Lol right? Both terrible
Thor : comedy and cringe
I still liked the Eternals sorry and Cersi had compassion and love

Bravo, good sir! Welll said. I agree with every point you made.
this
I wanna create a 1000 fake accounts and like this comment just so more people can read this wonderfully worded piece.

Yesss I have to agree with the other replies… Extremely Well Said/Expressed and Well Laid Out!!!
I've been saving this video for a year because I planned to watch Eternals first to avoid spoilers but man I just couldn't get into it. Now that I've finally watched this video I realize I didn't miss anything lol
keep on grinding man! keep on grinding!👍
Love that he used “ die mf die” during the Batman murdertage
Next one:
Why Mörbius worked and Endgame didn't
+"But Ryan, why nobody mentions a celestial getting out of the sea in any other marvel movies?"
-"Because no one wants to remember that shitshow.
For screencrush, i'm Ryan Arey"
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 VS The Winter Soldier/Iron Man 2!
You definitely hit the nail on the head with this video!
I think invincible and peacemaker both worked but can you do a breakdown of the similarities
That’s SpongeBob cut was too funny
11:52 BECAUSE ITS THEIR FIRST MOVIE
I can name a few things about sersei
She’s kind she’s selfless she’s gentle she’s driven she’s badass
Don’t know found ZJSL a 4 hours long torture! There should been an individual movie to introduce the characters like MCU and not stretch a movie for 4 hours…
I have a doubt
Is our main mcu timeline the only one timeline where avengers were able to bring back the dusted people??🤔🤔
well not all universes even had the snap as in the Illuminati universe
@@suisui7481 no mate am not talking about universes im talking about timelines
I liked eternals but I still maintain that it would’ve been a thousand times better as one of their 6 part series
The Snyder cut was awful
Nice try Ryan.. The trend now of movie vloggers specially Critics is to hate on Marvel Studios to bring back the hype to the DCEU franchise. It's understandable because MCU dominates the super hero films genre. Like Thanos said "Perfectly balanced as all things should be". Lets make everyone happy. But not this kind of comparison video wherein people that supposed to see and like both of the movies will hate it because of such biases.
Like I said in a Filmento video
WHY would a celestial create an Eternal, a being designed to be perfect to be deaf? Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Phastos’s son to be the one who is deaf? An eternal who can create anything, except a way to cure his sons disability.
Doing that shows that he doesn’t need to create everything
"Makkari uses her cosmically powered super-speed to scout planets and as the only deaf Eternal, she is not affected by the sonic boom that accompanies her cosmic running. The ability to hear would hinder the use of her super-speed, implying that deafness was part of her design, rather than a dysfunction."
This is based on Lauren Ridolff and Chloe Zhao's statements regarding why Makkari is deaf.
That Stephen A part 😂😂😂😂 That was funny😂😂😂
It's the "lived up to the hype" part that got me...
I think if they made a 6 episode anthology series on Disney+ where each episode told a short story about a different character, the movie would have been a lot better. The avengers had basically 5&1/2 movies to develop fewer characters than the eternals.
ZSJL slaps eternals into the sun the director of eternals literally said most of her inspiration was from the DC movies
I have to say Eternals has really grown on me. No interest in DC or Synder.
Could have been way better as a series to develop the characters more but It was entertaining and none the less.
Also, the slowmo Flash and Iris scene in ZJLA sucks balls.
oh yeah because everyone knew gaurdians of the galaxy before their movie
but also true, justice league is not comparable to eternals
justice league is comparable to avengers while eternals are comparable to new gods of new genesis and apokalyips
whereas Makkari speed scene kicked ass! and visually stunning.
The real problem was the CGI villian looking and being so uninspiring.
I think Druig and Makkari work together and have a good relationship.
If you thought eternals was about punching things and explosions than that's on you. I do agree that a longer format would of been ideal but that just shows you how good it is that you want more
STOP BADMOUTHING ETERNALS!!!
Figured if it was something you were experimenting with I'd offer my two cents of don't mess with success! I like the light jokes, and even a few cuts, but this was rapid fire one after the other. Almost like a spoof. What makes your videos so good is the deep dive into topics and taking them seriously. Unpacking them and looking from all different angles. Just my thoughts! Respectfully!
As soon as I watched Enternals I said, it's not terrbile, just OK. Should have been a Disney+ show, each character getting their own episode and a final episode, possibly an extended one, to showcase the finale.
Cause that worked so well for the Inhumans. 🤷♂️
@@silentsaturn7604 inhumans wasn't under the Feige/Disney umbrella so maybe it would work better ... maybe, trouble is the Eternals aren't a short story and a single movie tries to make it so.
For me personally:
Eternals>>JL
I honestly think the main character of eternals is Earth itself. If you care about Earth, that's all it takes to enjoy the movie.
Twice.
Palpatine gets me more than “your mom” at this point
I preferred The Eternals to The Snyderverse.
I liked Eternals, it was beautiful with great actors, but I agree, jamming 5000 years into a 2.5hr movie didn't work. I'd have liked a long form series too.
Iron Man VS The Batman!
I know I’m in the minority but I genuinely love Eternals. I don’t even know why, I just do. I honestly think it and ZSJL are on the same level for me
I agree with a lot of the points, but by the time the final battle in ZSJL came, I was just exhausted.
Good comparison
