    The best description I read of this match was something like;
_It was like a Quentin Tarantino film. It lasted over two hours, it was violent at times, there were some boring moments, followed by edge of your seat suspense, and it ended in a shootout_ 😁

The Durch still have a trauma of Rob Rensenbrink hitting the post in the near last minute of the 1978 world cup final. That match was even tenser, hosted in Argentina while they were under a military dictatorship, so the pressure was immense.
Four years earlier, the Netherlands lost their only final out of the three which they truly should have won. The emergence of total football dominated every country, but they bottled it 1-2 against West-Germany against all odds. However, Cruijff wasn’t able to make it to the 1978 world cup, as his wife and kids were held at gunpoint and tied up during a home invasion, so Cruijff didn’t want to leave them for an extended period of time.
Against all expectations, we were in the final as we were four years prior. Our dads always tell us that the players were in serious danger if they won the world cup against Argentina on their turf. Perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration, idk, But it is true the Dutch boys were willing to die for the world cup which resulted in a brutal final but for us unfortunately we couldnt clutch it.
But respect for Argentine, produced wonderful players. Football is unity and respect, war without casualties. Messi has taken a bit of a bad rep in our country due to his actions during QF, but he did apologise and I understand the tension is high, and no one in our country could deny his greatness even during the match

Football is so harsh and unkind ,the argentina boys from 2014 were indeed better , apart from Gonzalo higuain.
The 2014 argentina boys didn't conceed a single goal in the knock out stages until that one in the last few seconds in the final .
The 2014 boys would have beat any of argentina's opponents from 2018,and 2022 , including this Holland.IF THEY START ANY CENTRE FORWARD BUT GONZALO HIGUAIN.
while on the flip side this argentina team of 2022 could not take 15 mins of pressure without conceeding a goal or 2 Throughout the 2022 world cup , Holland, suadi Arabia,France, even Australia.
Special praise for the 2022 midfield they ensured no one could put more than 15 mins of pressure on the defence at a time adding to the work rate of alverez , that was the key with Messi and di Maria magic of course .
I look back at 2014 and wonder what if sabella didn't leave Carlos tervez at home due to family problems,( I think his wife was cheating on him ) .
And what if palacios or Sergio A were 1st choice ahead of Gonzalo higuain.🤷‍♀️. Outside those two calls sabela rest his soul and tata Martino after him were perfect .

As a dutchie i look back on this game with a smile on my face. It was arguably the most enjoyable game apart from the final. The tension, the agression, the goals, the super late equalizer, it had everything! I also think that the agression went to far a couple of times, but in the end i still look back on this match fondly. I do think it's a shame they only interviewed argentinian players for this bit. They went too far a couple of times as well. Add to that that the media threw some oil on the fire before the game (especially argentinian media) and some questionable refereeing on both sides certainly didn't help to fight those flames😂. It's kind of a shame that that childishness spilled over to the end of the game... again from both sides.

Also "Old coach that nobody remembers" is of course a bit dumb for a trainer that has won the champions league, super cup, the bundesliga and la liga.

If that's not understimating your rival and trying to destabilize the other team players I don't know what that is. That's why Messi went to celebrate to the dutch bench with his hand in his ears, he never does that, but this time that old guy was quite rude.

He'd probably give him a handshake now. After all, it was a very heated match and the scene shows Messi being hugged by a teammate only moments after the match was over.
And on top of that: Messi can do whatever he wants as long as it is not disrespectful. For sure it would have been an honor for Weghorst to shake Lio's hand, but no one is forced to give a handshake if one does not feel like it.

Not in that sequence. It started with a solid non-call against an Argentine tackler who hit the ball before he hit the player, then descended into a situation where both sides could have seen ejections. This is the way the game SHOULD be called, unless you're talking about kids in the park.

It seems since the 1978 World Cup final there is some tension between these two great football nations whenever there is a matchup. Take this game here. Or the heated quarter final game at the 1998 World Cup and Bergkamp's epic last minute winning goal. They only met 10 times at all. Imagine that. (NL against Germany 43 games, Belgium even 127 games).

Messi is not gracious and respectful to other footballers. You can see in the tunnel he ignores a handshake and a callout to his name. That's why CR7 is always the best. Messi is fortunate he doesn't play in early 2000s. Someone would have broken that left leg of his

In my life I have now experienced Argentina 3 times in the knockout phase of the World Cup. 1998, 2014 and 2022. 2022 was by far the most poorly played from the Netherlands. 1998 was won and 2014 was equal during the game. 2022 Argentina was much better. Still, we were close and that was miraculous enough. After the 2-2, the Netherlands should have continued to attack and not defend. It is more than fair that Weghorst does not get a hand at the end. Weghorst shouldn't have even asked for that hand after Messi stuck out his tongue.
