Hi Chris - really great video, thanks for your quality work. My parents moved from St. Louis to Florissant in 1954. One of their seven children, I was born in 1953 and we lived in Florissant until moving to West St. Louis County (Chesterfield) in 1975, so my entire childhood into early adult life with Florissant as my home. Back then it was an ideal place for a kid like me to grow up in. Lots of excellent little parks and hideaway places; the trees were beautiful in the autumn and the air seemed always fresh. Little to no crime,, that I was aware of at least. I have a lot of great memories of Florissant during the 1950's, '60's and early '70's.

Thanks for the tour and comments! You can still find reference to common fields and French "long lots" in Florissant. There are also a few historic homes and buildings from either the French or German periods of settlement. Lots of history in North County if you know where to look.

Towards the end, you went by St. Ferdinand Church. The big wide open green space nearby is Knights of Columbus Park. That's where they hold the Fiesta en Florissant every June. It's a big Hispanic culture-themed festival with Latin food vendors, music concerts and dancing space under the pavilion.

In the early 1990's when the first phase of the regional light rail was being planned, there was an effort to bring it as far as into nearby St Charles County, but race - baiting politicians shot that idea down. It would have been easy to link Florrisant at that time. To this day St. Charles County is the largest county in Missouri with no public transit, bus or anything. Worst traffic in the area as well.

I go back to STL often and have some family there. I will say, that two live in Florissant. I can tell you that in the last 20 years, that area is going downhill. They are even ready to leave because of this. It was a nice neighborhood back in the day but now there are a few burned out homes and the overall lack of any sort of maintenance that people put into their homes, is lacking. I think it hit the tipping point about 10 years ago.
