Can you use the GoPro hero 5 without the case on if so is it better it off or having a water proof case on?
The GoPro Hero 5 is waterproof to 30ft without the housing. We prefer to always use the case for reducing wear-and-tear and potential water damage. It's like having a suit of armor for the camera without sacrificing any control.

The go pro Hero 5 does not have a physical menu button to change settings under the water like the previous go pros. How did the lcd screen do underwater regarding responsiveness??? Were you able to change the settings underwater?
The touchscreen is not accessible when the Hero 5 is installed in the Super Suit housing. You can access the shooting menu and change settings by holding down the Mode Button and pressing the Record Button. I have one big issue with my Hero 3+ - I can hardly take any close-ups (not macros, just close to object footage). Does Hero 5 had smaller focus distance?
And also does the stabilization helps in having less shaky videos underwater?
The Hero5 will have a close-focus advantage over the 3+. Ideally you will want this filter for work at 12" distance or so: www.backscatter.com/sku/ff-10.lasso
The image stabilization is a big help. When combined with a dual handle tray or tripod you will have very smooth footage!

Yes, absolutely! A color correction filter such as the Flip 5 is necessary to get true, accurate color from the GoPro. Our filters are very durable and scratch resistant, plus they include a neoprene traveling case!
what housing did you use and any cover over the lens?

Was there a red filter used during this footage? Or a lot of post-editing? :-)
There is no color correction in post on this footage, everything shown is straight out of camera captured with a Flip Filter.

Backscatter Awww, I've heard I should get a bit more experienced with the rest of Monterey before trying to dive Monastery. These scenes are gorgeous though!
For Flip 5 system please come up with better locking mechanism which will keep filters and lenses in place without requiring additional hack.

The FLIP4 does have two lock positions on both the top and side filters. The first position is for the MacroMate Mini lens and the second lock is further back for filters. If you have a FLIP3.1 you need the o-ring hack to keep the MacroMate back.

Is the flipfilter special for the super suit (hero 5) or is it the same as from a gopro hero 3 dive housing?

Some of the new features and interface are the biggest improvement. Quality will be comparable, but with a slight advantage to the Hero 5.
Is this with protune on or off and if on what settings?
This was shot in all auto modes, no protune limits.
will there be a flip system for G5 without the case for snorkeling etc?
Our current platform will only work with the Super Suit housing, but it's still a new product so we may develop something in the near future.

At what depth did you have the GoPro 5 at?

Gopro Hero 5 have auto White Balance, is it do not need red filter underwater?
All GoPro cameras have an auto white balance, and because of this they need the correct filter to obtain proper color underwater. The auto white balance alone cannot compensate for the loss of red light due to passage through the water column, and without manual white balance the camera needs help from the filter.

At that depth you'll want our Deep (50ft+) color correction filter and a good set of video lights. The Super Suit housing can handle up to 196ft, so you're good to go there.

Thanks for clarifying! Unfortunately the GoPro doesn't offer this, but there are many compact models that do. You can always pull this info from the metadata as well. Maybe give us a call and we can find the best system for you!
Flip 4 sucked as did 3. Stevie Wonder could make a better setup. 2 times my filter snapped in half, because there is so much tension pulling on it to snap back and stay. It's so funny to see so many company's make products,that seems like a 12 year old designed.
