Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. My lawnmower isn't a black and decker, but watching you change out the brushes showed me what to check out. The brushes weren't worn out, but I couldn't pull one of them out because it was jammed. After spraying some ReleaseAll lubricant into the brush case and jimmying some tool into the channel to get the brush freely moving...well that fixed it!
Thank you! Fixed my parent's electric corded mower just by removing the top plastic cover, using a hand blower to blow away all the dried grass clippings away from the motor and brush contacts.
Thanks to your video I was able to successfully fix my old electric plug-in craftsman lawnmower. It was the same part wrong with my mower that was wrong with the one in your video. I did not have to put in a new replacement part I just cleaned up the old ones, reinstalled, and it fired right up. Thank you
Hi, great video! I was able to identify why my craftsman died and have soldered the issues, however the resistor has detached and I need suggestions on how I can safely adhere it to the metal plate.
My mower was working fine, not intermittent until it just stopped working. I checked the rectifer, seems to be passing current when switch is on, so that eliminates those two possible issues. There's a half-inch left on the brushes, so not completely worn out. Or is that worn enough to cause a complete shutdown?
Good video. I can't even get the cover off my Black and Decker MM550 to check the brushes. Any suggestions as there's no screws on the deck or underneath.
Good video . I have 2 craftsman plug ins . Both of them work for 5 minutes and shut off . I let them sit for 10 minutes and they work for about 5 more minutes . Any info on my problem .
Lovely dog , I'm trying to fix and old lawn mower as I just can't afford to buy yet another cheap one that breaks after a year. I have an old lawn mower and I'm pretty sure I can fix it. Have got all the tools he has but will check what he's said. There's another guy on u tube that gives an even clear view of the same problems. Thank you I need some inspiration at the moment .single women 4 adult sons that are bloody useless
i picked up an electric lawnmower today i really have no idea how to fix one but ive been trying to learn about small engines..my first project was a gas powered leaf blower and i had success fixing it but then i find this thing and to my dismay its electric so i was a bit disappointed i was looking forward to fixing it with little knowledge ive picked up online but anyways im just wondering how this guy knew the connections were good on the mower it didnt show..ill look it up soemwhere else i suppose as i feel this lawnmower i picked up today could have electrical problems it doesnt even turn over or turn on i cleaned all tehg rass out of it but the trigger thing or anything doesnt seem to go. it looks in fairly good shape clean no rust but maybe just garbage
mine mascot by Mountfield my mom was cutting the geass and then she hit something hard and now it doesn't have much power and if u cut grass with it the motor stops spinning
@@nc3826 well then crimp tubes with a heat shrink tube over the top. My point is a physical connection is stronger than a soldered one in many cases; especially that one.
Where did you get the brushes. I have a kobalt electric with worn brushes and haven't had any luck finding replacements. I called them directly and they told me I couldn't buy just the brushes. That I had to buy a replacement motor for $60. No thanks.
@@SmallEngineDIY thanks. I can't find kobalt part numbers for the brushes anywhere. I'm to the point of trying to modify other ones to fit. Great videos by the way. Always enjoy watching them. Keep em coming
Hello, I check the brushes on my lawn mower and they look good. The mower starts but then stops. Does anyone know what else could cause this other than the brushes?
Anyone got a clue? I was mowing and hit a bone hidden in the lawn by my dogs. Now it only buzzes... If I turn it by hand it turns freely, if I turn the cooling fan whilst trying to start it will turn a couple of seconds and then go back to sumpl buzzing. Bearings? Coil burnt? Idk....😢

I'm glad the video helped?
Thanks for this. You saved me 200 AUD for a new lawn mower. Turns out my electrical switches from the handle had become misaligned.
I'm glad it helped.👍👍

I just saw in a separate video a guy use some kind of white contact cement to attach his new resistor. What did you end up using?
@@nywvblue epoxy
Thank you for taking the time to show this !
Glad it was helpful!

I'm only here to see your dog. Good diagnostics!
Are the brushes the same for any electric mower or do you need a specific size for a particular brand and model mower?
Thank you for the video. I have a Sunjoe. I makes some kind of contact because it hums but the blades won't turn. Can you help me?

I got this kind. It stopped working and I don't want to buy new one because I believe it is still good, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have a Kobalt - just "died". same problem just a little newer. Thanks.
Have a Kobalt battery operated 40v unit. Won't start. It's not the battery; I have 3. Any ideas?
Cool arcs when it stops!

Hi what's the name of this part and where do we get this?
Mower brushes - Ebay or Amazon.
My mower stop working the first time I used it. As it just wouldn’t turn on again
mine mascot by Mountfield my mom was cutting the geass and then she hit something hard and now it doesn't have much power and if u cut grass with it the motor stops spinning
My electric mower sparked and turned off during diagnosgics. What doea that mean?
Thank you! Appreciated. Now I need to find a soldering iron haha
or use a crimp connector
Not sure why he didn't use wire nuts. They are stronger than that "V" shaped solder he did.
regular wire nuts.... should never be used for anything used outside....
@@nc3826 well then crimp tubes with a heat shrink tube over the top. My point is a physical connection is stronger than a soldered one in many cases; especially that one.
with or without heat shrink, crimping or soldering is ok to use, for this application... while using wire nuts is not....

LAwn mower with an electric cord. Do they still make those?
They still make them. Not as popular, but they are out there.
I have a black deck lawnmower ot snom like its burning
Thanks!
You don't need flux for soldering?
Lots of solder has flux inside it already.
Thanks for posting
Hello, I check the brushes on my lawn mower and they look good. The mower starts but then stops. Does anyone know what else could cause this other than the brushes?
Is it a plug in or does it use batteries? If it is a plug in, it could be the bridge rectifier.
@@SmallEngineDIY It is a plug-in mower. How would I test the rectifier?
