    Coaching vs Mentoring
In this video, you will learn the difference between Coaching and Mentoring.
    Points in Common
Coaching and Mentoring are used to nurture employees' skills and achieve business objectives.
Both are used to challenge and help individuals change the way they work, identify and solve problems, make decisions, overcome obstacles, and implement change.
    HOWEVER…
There are 6 fundamental differences between coaching vs mentoring:
    1. FOCUS
Coaching is mainly concerned with developing skills and strategies to achieve shorter-term performance objectives.
Mentoring focuses on personal growth and the continuous improvement of an individual's capability and potential.
    2. FUNCTION
Coaching is to help an individual achieve specific objectives.
Mentoring is to develop mentees to a point where they can make mature and intelligent career decisions for themselves.
    3. RELATIONSHIP
In a coaching, the coachee is usually assigned to the coach, who assumes the responsibility for improving performance.
In mentoring, the mentee often chooses the mentor.
    4. AUTHORITY
The coach is generally in authority and is in charge of managing the objectives to be achieved.
A mentor is more highly ranked within the organization's
business hierarchy but authority is tempered.
    5. REWARD
A coach's rewards are usually the form of value from the coachee's improved job performance. Coaches don't usually expect to learn from their coachees.
Mentoring is a more reciprocal relationship. Both the mentor and mentee learn from each other and grow professionally.
    6. AREA OF ACTIVITY
Organizations use coaching when employees need help to achieve specific objectives or perform given tasks.
Organizations use mentoring for broader purposes, such as developing managerial talent.

Mentors are experts in a field and can provide input on specific areas. Coaches do not need to know the industry, but are there to support personal development at the coachees request

Very clever graphics! It's a subject that I explain to all my clients! Both coaches AND mentors are valuable for helping you to progress your career!

I found it is a little bit misleading. The creator of this video might not really understand what coaching and mentoring are.

Great graphics and good information but I thought the video was going way too fast

This has it the opposite of what coaching and mentoring really are!

The graphics are good but there's too much going on in this video to actually learn anything. I found it too much and would prefer a much simpler example.

Yes. We are going to create a deeper tutorial on this topic.

Best option would be a combination of both coaching and mentoring.

This is the wrong way around. You've confused Coaches and Mentors!

This could be useful but is annoyingly to fast to obsorb and requires endless pauses and rewinds. Just add some pauses between each section. Think about your audience.

I am sorry, but that's not quite right. As an ICF Coach, I am certainly not the authority nor in charge of my Coachee

This is not at all how I define coaching. Coaching is about guiding someone to self-discovery; building competence/capabilities. As a coach I don't need to be a domain expert. This is better in many cases because I'm not tempted and simply can't provide a solution. Coaching is about asking productive questions the help open a new perspective in the coachee. From that new perspective new actions become possible and the coachee tends to find their own solution paths. This video is how I think of it: th-cam.com/video/PpmeQj-LFoY/w-d-xo.html
