Seeing isaac in b tier after a “first clear in 2h” really hurts my soul…. It takes several runs until you unlock a full run in TBOI. That being said, I want returnal now…
@@Burr_ Definitely play more! Isaac gets really fun and learning how to break and exploit it is the best thing ever. If I could find a ps5, I would most likely own returnal already :’)
Another super good one is Risk of Rain 2! It's a third person shooter where time correlates with difficulty, meaning you have to balance speed and collecting items to buff your character. Meta progression really only exists in unlocking new items through achievements, but trust me, that alone is hours and hours. Amazing game
tbh i completed 100% of Risk of Rain 2 and felt like its only a B tier game at most. It lacks a lot of variety compared to other ones in the genre. The maps are only biome skins and pieces of story, but add almost nothing in gameplay. The melee characters are really cool to play, but ranged ones feels almost the same in middle/late game builds. And it is almost always the same enemies.Every item is worth getting as long as you pass the DPS check for the level. It really lacks variety, but a fun game to play with friends.
As for Dead Cells. It's a game that becomes better the more you play. It starts A tier as soon as you press attack buttons and make your way through the prison. When you kill the Hand of the King for the first time, you'll unlock a new difficulty mode. Here is where the game steps up in quality. It's not just difficulty. The game becomes actually better at each difficulty level. The pace gets higher, more interesting mobs, more secrets, more tools, more biomes to explore, more challenge, so you get even more addicted. And it feels so good whenever you realize how far you've come, when you remember how clueless you were at the beginning. Imo, for these reasons, it is the best 2D roguelite platform game ever. Nothing comes close. Fighting sensations are through the roof, and there is an absurd amount of weapons and builds to master. Story is even completely optional. You don't have to get through dialogues and sh*t. Just plain fun for hundreds of hours. Can't go under S to me. But hey, tastes and colors ...
Exactly, dead cells has to be one of the best games irl but i guess skill issue for most people :/ , hades being s tier for a lot of people is a complete joke to me but i can understand why people like it, dead cells is so much better though its crazy, the more you play the better it gets, I remember when I finally passed 3BC and the game just clicked in my head, the combos the options all of it is godly. When you get to 5 bc its like theres more variety of enemies, you start to optimize your mutations and pathing, you crit %95 of the time and deal like %82747 increased damage with weapon perks consistently, you do not get hit by anything anymore since you know every enemy type by now like dark souls, and you still die to your dumb mistake and get mad over it xD it also has new updates every now and then, free dlc tier contents and shit
@@LaymensLament „hades" имено как roguelike ужасна. У неё есть сюжет, лор, мир. Она очень хороша как новелла. Но как рогалик, она проигрывает всем из тира „A". Её очень переоценивают
How could Isaac not be in S tier? Isaac paved the way for every other game on this list. If not for isaac non of this would exist. Isaac goes to S++ tier for historical significance
@@caidenmusick1727 by that logic muskets should be the best gun ever despite it being inferior to all modern firearms. Historical significance doesn't excuse the flaws the game has.
@@solarupdraft Early on it's hard to judge, but so far I'd say high A. Still a lot to learn and see but really like the general movement and the abilities. Combat and gunplay is very fun and smooth early on. Can only imagine it getting better
None of these are actually roguelikes, roguelites are games that have permadeath mechanics that includes meta progression, roguelikes are a specific genre of games that involves grid-based simulturn-based gameplay with similar conventions to Rogue. All of these games are roguelites or permadeath games, NOT roguelikes.
putting isaac into b tier in a rogue lite tier list is like putting ed sheeran into S tier and the beatles into B tier and will make people not take this tier list seriously. isaac literally started the whole genre and not a single one of those games you ranked higher than it would even exist without it. (yes i know that there technically were rogue lites/likes before isaac but they were really different and weren't really relevant, isaac single handedly created this genre as we know it today and brought in into the mainstream)
Honorable mention: Wizard of Legend. One of the first rougelike games I played & it’s very fun. The spells are really cool and the boss fights can be epic in terms of difficulty especially the final one in your run plus the costumes you wear give you stat boosts with different categories associated with them like HP bonuses, Dodge chances, relic enhancements etc. One issue I have is you can’t save mid run which is something I feel rougelikes should implement more (Risk of Rain 2 I’m looking at you👀lol). Overall, highly recommend it.
Yeah I don’t think gungeon was that great. Just cos you liked it doesn’t mean everyone did Risk of Rain 1 & 2 and Nuclear throne are all better imo especially because they have so much more content while having a much lower budget. Gungeon is bloated and the actual content runs out much faster than most roguelikes
@@pete5516 They're not saying everyone liked it, they're saying it had a big impact on the genre and brought a lot of people to it just like Hades did. I also think saying Gungeon doesn't have as much content as other rogue likes is disingenuous. You can dislike the game and recognize it still has a bunch of content. It has more than both RoR and RoR2. Not saying those games don't hold their own against Gungeon, just you're critique is factually wrong.
i feel like dead cells is one of the games that the more runs you complete the more you get attached to it as you feel more and more satisfied with your performance during the run and the sheer amount of unlockable weapons and skills that you get to pick during one
I never even beat a run on Dead cells and my best runs I felt so sad when they failed. Its such a fun game with the movement and combat, it really is just incredible
It appears as though you thought killing Mother in The Binding Of Isaac was the end boss, but if you beat her a few more times, you open up more and each run turns nearly twice as long with a different, this time actually, final boss ps. "The" is in the actual name of the game, so it was surprising to hear a game starting with "T" coming in first alphabetically
@@Burr_ The game has a lot, even in the base. Adding in the dlc's gives a ton of content. Dead cells also adds a bunch more after you beat a run. Another rouge lite to check would be noita. It is hard but fun.
Proper capitalization never includes "The" or "A" at the beginning. So "The Binding of Isaac" should always be listed under B alphabetically. Dumb computers are bad at this, which has taught a bad lesson to many.
After seeing BOI in B tier I took it personally. That game is an experience and you need to play through multiple times just to unlock the full game/ potential of the game. So much to unlock and infinite replay ability. Literally my favorite game of all time hands down.
You did Isaac incredibly dirty with the 2 hour remark, it took me 650 hours to achieve Dead God in Repentance, or earning all 637 achievements. One of the most difficult, frustrating, yet most creative and exceptionally fun games I've ever played. There is borderline infinite unique build possibilities and there is hundreds upon hundreds of synergies and interactions between every single item in the game. I would consider it the ultimate roguelite game due to how excellently balanced yet enriched the mechanics are and how there are just so many possible things that can happen. Give it a try for at least 30+ hours to really get the game going, and go for as many end game bosses as you can. Always play on hard mode as well.
Noita is one of my favorites due to how much freedom there is. That being said, I don't like the late game too much since it's basically a test of how long until the game crashes and dies. Pretty hard to get as many orbs as possible.
I've bought Noita off the recent steam sale. It looks very very fun so im curious to see late game (it probably takes quite a bit to get to late game like most roguelikes/lites)
Spoilers for noita I agree, i did a 34 orb run and it takes fairly long to get to god run status. The crashes i can deal with, but id make a backup of your save every time you cross to a parallel world. The annoying part is that the lategame is very repetitive, where you spend most of your time just traveling and collecting spells and perks. I did my first 34 orb run by crafting a parallel world teleport wand first, which requires a bunch of rare and obscure spells to make. I would not have gone through the effort of collecting 34 orbs without that wand, its too boring to do without in my experience. However, noita is still a fantastic game. The sheer amount of depth and secrets it has is amazing, and if you get bored of vanilla it also had a strong modding community. There's still unsolved secrets, other fun quests and interesting bosses (i really liked doing the sun seed quest). Noita is the game without any real limitations, and it dares you to break its boundaries which i think is amazing
I wanna make Isaac into its own video in the future and give it a reranking as I was very very unaware of the crazy amount of content available, ive been trying to play it more
Nice list, but there's a reason why Isaac has such a big fanbase. The more you play the deeper it goes and the more you unlock. Beating mom is basically the tutorial run. After that you unlock another final boss, and another one, and a different one, and it keeps going and going with hidden characters to unlock and then every character has a tainted version (34 total playable characters with different stats, items and synergies). Also, Repentance is the best way to play it because it balances and changes most items.
I 100% wanna play more Isaac and I can tell it has a verfy dedicated fanbase based off some comments. I'm very impressed with it and look forward to learning it
This was a great video. I feel like gungeon has the potential to get to A and even S tier as you play it more. You definitely gotta try Risk of Rain 2 if you want a fantastic rougelite with multiplayer.
Gungeon and Isaac are both games I 100% feel will be moved up when I get to commit more time to them. Risk of Rain 2 is the next new one I'm going to try most likely when I can fit it into my schedule. So many good roguelikes and never enough time. Thanks for watching and supporting!
@@Burr_ I used to think that risk of rain 2 was pretty good but with the most recent dlc me and a friend have put in like 100 hours so I would definitely recommend it highly, especially if you like shooters. I hope you are able to find time to play it soon!
Risk of Rain 2 is easily my favorite rougelite game. I still like binding of isaac and hades and whatnot but Risk of Rain 2 can be fun on easy but has so much more depth than the others in my opinion.
I'd definitely recommend Nuclear Throne, Wizard Of Legend, Synthetik ( the sequel came out but it's not as polished ), and Undermine. Besides Hades, I would say that Nuclear is one of my top favorites, Binding of Isaac comes in a close second but when Hades released it really just took the cake. Nuclear's my favorite bullet hell.
I've heard a lot of good things about Nuclear Throne and I think its on game pass so i can easily pick it up, havent seen too much of UNdermine or Synthetik as well, but Wizard of Legend has been reccommended a lot and it looks really good! thanks for supporting as well!
undermine seems like binding of isaac but more simple and that's positive bc the thing that push me away from binding of isaac is that the game looks so complex and deep
@@irxssxp it’s not super complex, it’s just looks complex. Once you learn what something does you won’t forget, cause it probably screwed you over. If you like tons of achievement hunting and burning away months of your time I’d recommend it, basically everything on this list except for neon abyss is a better game than Isaac imo
Interesting list but some of these games were ranked lower simply because you hadn't allocated enough time to them. I'd like to see an update to those games and if your opinion changed based on experience
Hades for me is not just a game it is a piece of art. The atmosphere, jokes, progression, THE MUSIC. Everything was so perfect for me like a magical journey.
@@k1ngn3r Putting a more story focused game on S tier on a freaking roguelite tier list feels incredibly stupid to me. Especially over Isaac and Enter the Gungeon...
Isometric and action are two tags on steam. Definetly gotta add it to my wishlist. Maybe I should make a video like this for the underrated less known roguelikes since their seems to be so many gems
i absolutely worship Enter the Gungeon, and Had-Been Heroes which im surprise wasnt include in this! otherwise good list, been fall in love with roguelike = replayable is insane high
Don't forget about: Children of Morta, Moonlighter, Rogue Legacy 2, Death Road to Canada, Wizard of Legends, Star Renegades, Streets of Rogue, The Sword of Ditto: Mormo's Curse, Neon Chrome, 20XX, A Robot Named Fight, Mana Spark, Dungeon of the Endless, Don't Starve, Celebration of Violence, Curse of the Dead Gods, West of Dead, Unexplored 1 & 2, Vagante, Below
The thing about Isaac, you need to play the game for about 100-120 ish hours to 100% the base game, but the dlcs add SO much content. A mod for Isaac was developed into a dlc, with all dlcs there are about 700+ items and tons of bosses (don’t remember the exact amount but I think about 40+)
It's one of the few games except for soulsborne games that I have put the time in to platinum and complete all dlc challenges too... I must have put thousands of hours into it.
I loved all those games, as well as those mentioned in the comments. I would add : - Pirates Outlaws (as good if not better than slay the spire) - Dicey dungeons - Monster Train - Ring of pain - Solitairica - Astral ascent - The last stand aftermath - The last spell - Indies' lies - Everspace - Children of morta - Crown Trick - Warrior of the Nile - Nova drift - Griftlands - Warm snow - Crypt of the necrodancer
Just learned about a ton of games to add to my future gaming library. Thanks a ton and here is two from me: Dont Starve and Death Road to Canada. I love those games!
Bro... you really haven't played enough Isaac to give it a fair rating at all. You've probably seen 2% of the game. Cool video though, just seeing Isaac (pretty much the pioneer of modern day roguelites) in B teir hurts my soul.
@@Burr_ true! Sorry if my comment came off harsh! Great game! We don't have time to play every game we want to as much as we'd like. I'm sure you are much more experienced at Darkest Dungeon then I am! Plus I wouldn't expect you to just beat Mom on Isaac and give it an instant S teir! Always awesome so watch other people who enjoy Roguelites and the such!
@@skyth0398 Everytime I pick up Noita I'm like "yeah this is great. I'm a wizard. makin wands and stuff" but that quickly degenerates into "i have no idea what I'm doing but this killstick i made seems to work" followed by me killing myself somehow with my killstick.
Returnal has six biomes, not three. It is one of my all time favourite games, but I still think it falls short as a rougelite. There isn't much room to create specific builds for each run you go through, limiting replayability a lot. If you want to play Returnal, you should approach it more like an action game than a roguelite. Still, it's an amazing game! The moment-to-moment gameplay seriously makes me bust a nut every time. S-tier game.
The gameplay is just so damn good - it’s like digital crack. The difficulty curve feels a little all over the place sometimes, with the 3rd biome being particularly tough (screw that run-up to Nemesis). The second half of the game flows much better than the first.
This is probably a hot take, but to me, it's the best PS5 exclusive (i realize there's a PC port, but much like GoW, it started as an exclusive), and it's not even remotely close (at the time of writing at least). I've played a good bunch of PS5 exclusives so far, and no world building, no gameplay and no story has had me this invested, ever. Approaching my 100th hour, and the Plat is in sight. Just need to do the surveys, which will probably take forever, but actually having fun with a task that sounds boring in theory, is just proof of how good this game is.
you're right about Isaac, don't bend your opinion just cuz the dweebs are crying about it. It's one of the lesser Roguelike games, sure it has a million items lots of characters and potential synergies. But the aesthetic is a hard miss, and its SO SLOW at the start. Definitely a B tier game
really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on each roguelike game you played! Dead cells seems my jam and something I’ll have to look into more. great video burr!
@@Burr_ I love your tier list but FTL is definitely the most roguelite staple game missing from it. It's an easy A tier imo and is a must play for any fan of the genre.
Neon abyss is one of my most played games on the switch, I agree the unlock tree is abit confusing and you do need the wiki open when you have a choice of item's, but if you find the time to sink into it you may be pleastly surprised or that's just me. Great list hope to see more
Dead Cells and Skul are my personal favorites although I haven’t played them all. Dead Cells took about 200 hours to be able to consistently beat on 5BC and Skul I started consistently beating after about 150 hours. Both games you can sink a ton of time into and both feel very rewarding with more time spent as your skill combined with upgrades make you feel god like
Great video. I personally liked the brief overview of each game - it wasn't just a ranking video but also a good way to learn a little about each game. This works well for a youtube video since everyone may not have seen your stream, so the brief description makes the discussion more meaningful. Side note, I actually just tried out Hades (didn't get very far :P ) It was actually more fun than I thought - dungeon / boss games aren't really my thing, but prepared with some knowledge from watching your playthroughs gave me some insight into the boons and the room options :D The video encouraged a nice, unbiased discussion of these game. A viewer can clearly see the passion and love you have for this genre. Glad you had fun learning all of these games. Keep up with the wonderful content. (Also wonderful Celeste music at the beginning and end :P )
Thanks for always the nice and supportive comments and supporting on and off Twitch. So many great games and I'm glad you've tried Hades out! So much to learn and never enough time Also I've been itching to replay Celeste so I felt the music woulda fitted nice when it was just me talking
spelunky 2 is one of the best designed games of all time. Its annoying to play and extremely difficult once you start, but once you have so many hours in it and understand many of the games mechanics, its so fun and replayable
@@anab0lic It’s just opinions. They could like the music, the art, the characters, what they portray, and much more you couldn’t get from whatever you think a high quality game is. Truly, your opinion is just literally wrong.

Hey man I had to sub up because this is quality content right here. I hated these type of games literally until turning 30 last year and then got into lovecraft which led me to darkest dungeon. Clearly we have the same taste in entertainment based on your S tier rating. With that being said im going to advocate for Slay the spire. Since getting into the genre I've played almost every game on this list except the last one and I would have slay the spire right after DD and hades right after that. StS is an absolute addiction for me atm. I might even have it above DD based on replayability. I LOVE DD, everything about it. The look of the game is beautiful. I have replayed sts far more though. Slay the spire is just becoming the new comfort game. I think the reason I'm starting to like it more is because DD can get very intense sometimes for me personally as I am very much a min maxer. That along with the setting and environment make it to where I can only play it under certain conditions. Sts is the kind of game I can play literally at any moment. Even when I'm dead tired from working I can throw on sts, play a podcast and just go into extremely ling play sessions. To each their own though and love your list bro keep the content coming!
C-tier for Neon Abyss is more than fair. It has a fun vibe and aesthetic, and was fun for a good bit. But it gets very repetitive and predictably very quickly. Additionally, it get way too easy very fast. And in my opinion it also has balancing problems, way too many items which stack infinitely and many of which end up being useless and/or redundant. There is a lot of potential underneath it all, but there are so many great roguelikes out there that I do feel salty about paying $20 for it. In the end, there is fun to be had but it loses its luster quickly and doesn't have much replayability IMO.
Thanks for the nice comment and supporting the video! I wanna play more Dead Cells behind my 15 hours played so far as the combat, and difficulty of enemies, metroidvania esque map. Just so much makes Dead Cells so fun. I've heard it can get REALLY hard much later down the line, kinda the same way as Hades. You make it as hard as you want And Sifu is really fun in a first playthrough! I wanna go through and play again and get the good ending
the separation of definitions makes no sense. the binding of isaac has a ton of meta progression via unlocks. its also the definitive S tier for me, but no other game has had like 10 years to continually update like the binding of isaac. While hades is fun for the first like 10-15 hours, it becomes very unchallenging and is solely carried by the story and the characters. I pretty much never died the entire time i played hades until i did 36 heat which resulted in me being 90+ completed runs without finishing most character stories. I had to just end up forcibly killing myself at the start just to progress stories and finish out the game.
17:30 theres even another new character and 9 more boss characters to pick if you get the official downfall extension. Theres also god knows how many more workshop mods so its extremely replayable
Spelunky 2 is an easy top of S tier for me. I have almost 450 hours in the game and have done everything but hit 7-99. Once you get crispy with the mechanics the fun factor shoots way up. I pretty much agree with the rest of the list, besides maybe putting DD in front of Hades.
Thanks for the great comment! I really like Spelunkys fast paced movement, it's just really hard and it's definetly a really fun time. Thanks for supporting!
It's so much harder than the first. I am obsessed with it. I don't have a clue what 7-99 is but I am looking forward to finding out. You must be very good at it if you have done everything!
I have around 400 hours in enter the gungeon and have done just about everything there is to do in the game (except beat the punchout phase of the rat fight), and 100% think that gungeon is a game that you enjoy the more you play it. At first you die a lot and the challenge can feel impossible, but mastering the game is where most of the enjoyment comes from, doing things like damageless runs, making a crazy dodge, weaving through dozens of bullets, all of those things feel so cool. The mechanics and controls of this game are so razor sharp and you don't really start to enjoy them until you start getting good at the game. Not to mention the countless variety of runs you could have, far and away my favorite action based video game.
I 100% agree with this. I plan on reranking Gungeon (and isaac) in another video in the future but Ive played gungeon for about 40 hours since this video and have beaten all the pasts for the first 4 characters and really it's a masterpiece of a game. Has become one of my favorites
binding of isaac playthrough become much longer further into the game and gameplay, enemies, items, etc. get way more complicated and intese, and fun. You're clearly only scratching the surface of Isacc.
WOW! Fantastic overview/tier list review of all these amazing games you have been playing on stream. These have all been really fun to watch you play and the review is a good reminder!
I gotta say, Isaac being B tier in the thumbnail certainly drew me in. Dozens of commenters have said it all (Great story, barely scratched the surface in terms of gameplay, etc.) so I won't repeat it all, but it and Hades are definitely my favorite rougelikes/lites on here. Sorry for all of the hate you're getting over it lmao-people are VERY quick to defend their favorite game. Good video-even if I disagree with most of this list! People having varying opinions on topics leads to very interesting discussions and caters to the taste of each player. Would really like to see another video when you've had the proper time to properly play a lot of these games.
Thanks for the actual good and constructive comment. I want to do a second tier list with new games and a reranking for Isaac and gungeon, but i am trying to play more isaac for its own video. People tend to be very very harsh at times, but that's life
I tried getting into Slay the Spire, but I couldn't. It felt very underwhelming and I thought maybe the whole deck building roguelike wasn't for me. That is until I played Griftlands and I absolutely loved it. It plays just like StS but I enjoyed it so much more.
It was the other way around for me, but I would still say Griftlands is a quality game. If you enjoy either of the games check out Tainted Grail, personally my favorite out of the 3
You definitly need to play more Binding of Isaac to truly appreciate it :D It would def be an A tier for me even though it has some flaws it's such a great game! Also HADES!!! I love that game to death (LUL) :D I want Returnal to come to PC so badly, just so I can shit my pants from the creepiness :D I need to start playing Skul, but I'm afraid it'll get me addicted :D Vampire Survivors is so much fun, it's criminal. And getting a busted run feels so satisfying :D For the video format itself: I would have greatly appreciated a little reminder of the game's name while you were talking about it, like a little card in the corner. I would also be interested in a little update in a few months or a year on how your view on this list has changed as you play some games more or add new games to it!
So many great games and never enough time, but 100% having the game in the corner for a video like this would be really good so thank you for that suggestion! I wanted to initially clear every game atleast once before the video but thought I had enough information on the game to still make a good video, so in time an update video will probably be good!
The endless tower is definitely addicting, wish I could play it more, I think co-op was even added after this video was released (might have been mentioned in the video, but its been awhile)
@@Burr_ it's def worth it, it is far deeper and has many more paths, endings, synergies and secrets than the majority of roguelikes. I have 100% the game and all dlc and I still enjoy playing it.
Neon Abyss continues to be the most underrated and overlooked game I’ve ever played. It’s easily in my S-tier. Once you get used to twin stick shooting and LT as jump, it’s insanely fun and addictive!
Fr dude, it seriously stands out to me. I like the colour choice, sfx and the pixel art theme. Unlocking different areas using keys and getting different weapons is always fun
The problem with Darkest Dungeon is that it's not really a roguelite, if it was it would drag games like XCOM and Fire Emblem (permadeath) with it. DD2 actually fits I'm the genre much better but as someone who loves games like XCOM, I absolutely adore DD1 precisely because of how its runs work.
I always have the big debate with myself if Darkest Dungeon is actually a roguelite with the way it is and everyone always says "yea it totally is" so I felt to add it. DD2 fits the genre SO much easier
Dead Cells whooped my ass so many times lmao, i grinded Hades a lot too, but i got a lot of Roguelites/Roguelikes on my PS/Steam Wishlist, many of which you featured in this video. Thanks for the great overview!
I have such a soft spot for Gunfire Reborn. I have no idea why it’s gripped me so hard but the numbers clicking by the end of a good run tickles me brain.
Great list! I don't see anything I would really disagree with. Not sure if Dead Cells is something I would be interested in (maybe on sale), but looks like I'll be picking up Skul soon. 😆
As someone who has a ton of hours in Dead Cells and Hades, if you're a fan of fast-paced action, definitely get Dead Cells. It gives me that adrenaline rush every level since they're jam-packed with enemies (as in literally) and you'll always be on your toes when clearing levels, especially if you're doing no-hit runs.
I bought Dead Cells and if I could I would returned it, there are some portions of the game which ruined it for me. The grinding for mid/late unlocks, ledge movement, forced playstyles (don't try to mix builds, you won't have fun which I feel is the joy of rougelikes, the randomness of builds), boss dmg caps (why?? if you get a busted op build, you should be able to use it to it's full potential), difficulty modes (higher dif, more copy and pasted enemy.. devs who think more enemies = challenge are the worse) and a lot of different patches that keep optimizing items as if its a multiplayer game. Honestly the EA version of Dead Cells was a solid game, post release it's been constantly going downhill for me. In all, it just feels like the devs want the players to purposely suffer instead of adjusting their games by adding superficial game time with the gold nerfs (more grinding) and item nerfs (I wonder why the healing mutation was so popular).
Love to see my boy Darkest Dungeon in the S tier. I also have a soft spot for that game. Between the incredible narration, artwork and grit its impossible not to
Surely agree with the list, I like how B tier is a tier of games you don't really like or dislike. Both Gunfire Reborn and One Step From Eden fill in categories that are not really represented, so I would fit it outside of S-D tiers.
I think they are A tier at best. Also, that is a meaningless argument. The other games still perfect the formula that they kinda revived or reinvented.
My favorite genre of all time. These are my go back to endlessly games. Gotta say that B tier really got filled up and shorted some of the all time bests, that's a YT tier list for ya though
Pretty good list. Love seeing Hades so high up, and surprised that Gunfire Reborn ended where it did, but you did lay on the point that the game feels more fun with multiplayer. Still, pretty good. A couple additions I would add for you to try to get your opinions on would be the Kaycee's Mod mode of Inscryption, as well as West of Dead. Both are pretty fun in their own rights.
You're the second person to talk about Kaycees Mod mode on Inscryption and I've been intrigued by the game as a whole for a bit so I will hopefully be able to check it out soon, and for West of Dead I never even heard of so I'll have to look it up! Thanks for supporting the video as well and for the nice comment!

@@ConvayerBeltGirly Rougelikes are any game where you start with nothing and death resets you to the start. Roguelites are any games where you can keep certain progress- unlockable challenges, items, characters, etc.
Returnal is really really hard! I would say it’s actually harder than some souls like games just because it’s so easy to make a mistake and die and then you have to start all over and runs can take quite a while. Especially if you take your time in runs to get powerful so you stand any kind of chance
I don't think it's fair to have Sifu on here. It's not really a rougelike, more of a straight forward action game with rougelike elements. It requires patience and dedication to get good at it, and it's insanely rewarding. My personal GOTY for this year
A lot of people might have said this, but placing Isaac in 'B' tier is criminal. Isaac is anything but basic, especially with all the available DLCs. When you beat Mom once, you've only seen maybe 5% of the game. Isaac boasts more item synergies and diverse mechanics than any other roguelike I've ever played, and I've played many. Isaac didn't just pave the way for the modern roguelike genre (being the first game that truly gained traction as an action roguelike and put the genre on the map), but it has also been consistently developed over the past 10 years. The content added with the DLCs attests to that. For a new player, it will take well over 200 hours to unlock and experience everything in the game. Another point worth mentioning is the massive modding community for the game. Some mods are comparable to entirely new versions of the game. While I haven't played Isaac in a while, it will always be THE ROGUELIKE game for me. I haven't encountered any game in the current market that matches Isaac's depth. Personally, I would rank Isaac above 'S' tier, not only for its historical significance to the genre but also for its immense content and replayability.
Some of these have already been mentioned so ill leave them out but man Sifu is getting slept on a little. The game really shines once you arent getting your head kicked in. The better you are the more fun it is. Its definitely a very biased conversation though so overall good video man
I understand not wanting to rank games high you've barely played but both ISSAC and enter the gungeon are A tier The level of content in both is insane and Issac had a pretty big impact on roguelikes and even indie gaming as a whole. Another super good one is Risk of Rain 2! It's a third person shooter where time correlates with difficulty, meaning you have to balance speed and collecting items to buff your character. Meta progression really only exists in unlocking new items through achievements, but trust me, that alone is hours and hours. Amazing game
i was shocked he didnt cover this one it goes so hard. finally 100% complete it after 200 hours
tbh i completed 100% of Risk of Rain 2 and felt like its only a B tier game at most.
It's good. I bought it. I think the best roguelikes are ring of pain and gunfire reborn
@@lucaspoli6109 what about risk of rain 1
@@stantheman2756 unfortunatly i didnt play the first game, but i am thinking about buying it. Specially if they remake as planned.

Wizard of legend is S-Tier status for me. Truly a hidden gem amongst hidden gems
Enter the Gungeon did to rogues in 2016 what Hades did in 2020. Both are S tier shining examples of what the genre can aspire to.
Gungeon is amazing and im ashamed i didnt play it more, along with Isaac.
Gungeon kinda boring nucler trhone is awesome gameplay wise
Yeah I don’t think gungeon was that great. Just cos you liked it doesn’t mean everyone did Risk of Rain 1 & 2 and Nuclear throne are all better imo especially because they have so much more content while having a much lower budget. Gungeon is bloated and the actual content runs out much faster than most roguelikes
I think i have died like 600 times in gungeon

Dead cells is easily my fave roguelite, the crisp clean controls and combat system are S tier.
It appears as though you thought killing Mother in The Binding Of Isaac was the end boss, but if you beat her a few more times, you open up more and each run turns nearly twice as long with a different, this time actually, final boss
ps. "The" is in the actual name of the game, so it was surprising to hear a game starting with "T" coming in first alphabetically
Ah so thats how the runs get doubled! I really wanna get into it more and didnt realize "The" was part of it.
@@Burr_ The game has a lot, even in the base. Adding in the dlc's gives a ton of content. Dead cells also adds a bunch more after you beat a run. Another rouge lite to check would be noita. It is hard but fun.
You mean Mom, not Mother... *(spoilers bruh)*
@@skit_inventor Oh yeah, small mistake
Spoilers for noita
I agree, i did a 34 orb run and it takes fairly long to get to god run status.
@@Burr_ Noita is an absolutely crazy game bro. Making it to late game is great!

You make it as hard as you want
And Sifu is really fun in a first playthrough! I wanna go through and play again and get the good ending
As someone who actively plays Spelunky, I completely understand. Seeing newer players struggle will always bring me a laugh though
My twitch chat was loving it, but i was also really much enjoying the pacing of the game
If you're into deckbuilders, I can't recommend Monster Train enough. They basically made Slay the Spire into a tower defence game and it's fantastic.
the separation of definitions makes no sense. the binding of isaac has a ton of meta progression via unlocks. its also the definitive S tier for me, but no other game has had like 10 years to continually update like the binding of isaac.
Downfall is a mod, not official content, right?
@@Malthan well yes but its been given an official page in steam and its technically as official a mod can be in a game
not surprised you put Darkest Dungeon in S tier LOL. I do have to say though One Step from Eden looks chaotic...... I need to try it!
@@robcookex if you find out what 7-99 is I'm sorry for the pain you went through
Dicey Dungeons might be worth a look if you like these games
The final shot of the tierlist is my new shopping list :D
My favourite Roguelike is Risk Of Rain 2
By far the most addicting and replayable one
I regret not putting it on the list. Would easily be an A tier
@@Burr_ Risk of Rain just A tier? U joking? XD
Wizard of Legend is my personal favorite
Avatar: The last Airbender - the Simulator ^^
That one's been on my watch list for awhile. Will hopefully play it soon
Got my sub i just started liking rogue likes/lite games and I love them
Thanks for watching! Keep your eyes on the uploads. I got 4 projects in the works with 2 of them relating to roguelites
Griftlands you say? I'll need to check it out!
@@Burr_ Yeah it's made by Klei Entertainment. The guys behind Don't Starve and Oxygen Not Included.
@@Burr_ Griftlands is an absolute s tier
It was the other way around for me, but I would still say Griftlands is a quality game. If you enjoy either of the games check out Tainted Grail, personally my favorite out of the 3
Griftlands is amazing. Great story beautiful menus and memorable characters. However STS came out before it and has alot more replay ability for me.
And getting a busted run feels so satisfying :D
For the video format itself: I would have greatly appreciated a little reminder of the game's name while you were talking about it, like a little card in the corner.
God damn, i played Returnal since Release, sold it after a few months tho. Now i may have to jump back into it after the updates you mentioned!!
The endless tower is definitely addicting, wish I could play it more, I think co-op was even added after this video was released (might have been mentioned in the video, but its been awhile)
I have to disagree... Binding of Isaac is S+ tier imo... the only roguelike I have put thousands of hours in.
I'm just starting to play it more. I will agree i did it very dirty in this video
Good Tier! But Isaac in B has no sense :( Fpr my at least :D
Thanks for watching and supporting! I did Isaac dirty and will do it justice in the future
Thanks for watching and supporting! Theres still so many great games I missed but I'm always trying to make some videos on any games I can find
Between the incredible narration, artwork and grit its impossible not to
Yea I always find myself going back to it
Petals will fall
Surely agree with the list, I like how B tier is a tier of games you don't really like or dislike. Both Gunfire Reborn and One Step From Eden fill in categories that are not really represented, so I would fit it outside of S-D tiers.
Dude I absolutely loved this video!! Keep killing the game and making awesome stuff like this
Oof. Spelunky and Issac are S tier and none of the other games on this list would even exist without them tbh
I think they are A tier at best.
Also, that is a meaningless argument. The other games still perfect the formula that they kinda revived or reinvented.
Issac is top A tier. Its probably one of the best dungeon crawlers. Once you play more you might change your mind. Its really good
My favorite genre of all time.
Glad to see Have a Nice Death in the list !
You should try Rogue Legacy 2, Revita, Curse of The Dead Gods, Dreamscaper and Monster Train.
These games seem fine, sure. But the real S-tier is BROTATO
GUNGEON FANS! I made a NEW video ALL about Enter the Gungeon! You can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/InrHn7JozkA/w-d-xo.html
If you like the video lemme know and I can make it on more games in that style
Have you tried children of morta? It has elements of a rouge lite dungeon crawler. It has an overarching story.
So the randomization of a game doesn’t matter for it being a rogue lite?
Gungeon S tier
Darkest dungeon was the worst pick. I'm not trying play a goddammit turn-based.
It's not hard at all.
I don't think it's fair to have Sifu on here. It's not really a rougelike, more of a straight forward action game with rougelike elements. It requires patience and dedication to get good at it, and it's insanely rewarding. My personal GOTY for this year
Sifu is low on the roguelike tier list because it is not a roguelike lol
Might as well be an F tier FPS
Never make a tierlist again pls
great video bro
Thanks fir watching! Glad you enjoyed
Some of these have already been mentioned so ill leave them out but man Sifu is getting slept on a little. The game really shines once you arent getting your head kicked in. The better you are the more fun it is. Its definitely a very biased conversation though so overall good video man
Thanks for watching and supporting! i may have only put it in B tier but i do think Sifu is great! I'm hoping to replay it once it releases on steam
binding of Isaac is A+ , its a game which is played 10years ... common
I understand not wanting to rank games high you've barely played but both ISSAC and enter the gungeon are A tier
The level of content in both is insane and Issac had a pretty big impact on roguelikes and even indie gaming as a whole. Enter the gungeon has a REALLY good gameplay loop that's easy to fall in love with
