Thank you so much for this video. I’ll be done with my CFY this May working in the schools and I’m really debating trying medical setting with no experience. This helped so much!

I love your videos! You're always sharing really useful information. I have 3 more semesters in my masters program and sometimes it's tough to stay motivated especially when I'm one of two Black women in my cohort. It's easy to let self-doubt and imposter syndrome sneak up on you. So watching your videos, and seeing someone who looks like me and is several steps ahead of me in this career path, is refreshing and encouraging. Thanks, from a future speechie!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I’m just in my first semester of grad school. I like working with children but I think I would enjoy medical as well. A pediatric hospital would probably be my dream job if I could find one lol

I am a first year grad student who is trying to set myself apart to get a medical CFY-would taking certifications such as LSVT as a student be more beneficial than subscribing to speechpathology.com since CEU’s won’t count for me? Is there anything else I can do that will help? I’m trying to get a medical placement for my clinical, but they don’t have many spots for grad students.

I'd say do both! The CEUs won't count just yet, but viewing them allows you to gain more knowledge in certain areas. You can include that on your resume and talk about it in interviews! If you aren't able to get a medical placement, try to shadow a medical SLP (I know your schedule is probably busy, but search for a hospital/SNF to see if you can get in on a weekend day). That also helps as you can get real-world experience.

Hi! You have to complete a 9 month fellowship under supervision of an SLP; once you do that, you will receive your certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and then you can practice independently!
