- Hi guys, and welcome back to Petrolhead Podcasts. The compact SUV segment is probably the single most hotly contested one in America, with nearly 20 entrants in an extremely intensely competitive space. The Volkswagen Tiguan has always offered a distinctly premium twist to the compact SUV formula, blending good driving dynamics with an upmarket feeling interior and a feeling of solidity. For 2025, the North American market Tiguan receives a comprehensive redesign aimed at significantly increasing the vehicle’s sales. But with such fierce competition in the segment, is the all-new Tiguan the best option to buy? Join me as I go through an in-depth comparison to give you the answer. Today, we will be comparing the 2025 Tiguan SEL R Line, which is expected to have a starting MSRP of around $43,000, against 5 great compact SUVs. To ensure a fair competition, I have included the top trim, all wheel drive gasoline or hybrid versions of each model but excluded plug-in hybrids that tend to be much more expensive. Firstly, we have another upmarket feeling compact SUV in the 2025 Mazda CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus all wheel drive, which has a starting MSRP of $44,720. Next, we have a Korean option that prioritizes value for money and design in the 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited, with a starting MSRP of $42,590. We also have the luxurious and spacious 2025 Nissan Rogue Platinum, with an MSRP of $42,310. And lastly we have the two best selling options in the segment, the 2025 Honda CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid, with a starting MSRP of $42,450 and the 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited, with a starting MSRP of $41,600.
