As a hardwood flooring contractor, I agree a lot with what you said about employee retention. If you find a good guy or crew if you're blessed; I think it's so worthwhile to give them every single benefit we can afford. Holiday pay, paided vacation, insurance coverage, maybe even something as simple as letting them borrow tools. If we take care of them, they will take care of us.
Tile trade doesn't pay well. I'm a licensed tile contractor. It's like pulling teeth to get a profitable project. Working as an employee pays peanuts. If i could go back i would've become an electrician, general contractor or software engineer. If you're in for the money, tile is not it. Most tile guys i know are broke.
I heard a life changing qoute from Tony Robbins, he said "life will always pay what you ask of it". With that being said, what you charge is completely up to you, you're responsible for your own rates. I've established my tile company as a respected high end installation company. Many of my jobs are approved without even having to give an estimate, I get paid what I ask, and my clients are overjoyed to pay for the quality of work I provide. Tile is not for everyone, but it's a huge blessing to some. I respect plumbers & electricians, but no one gets more praise than a finished trade, such as tile🙌. Tile is an art form and being a finished trade, it provides a sense of worth and accomplishment that only a finished trade can provide. That only works wonders for mental health and all around well being. Again, I agree the tile trade isn't for everyone, but for some, it's truly priceless 💯
Good to know. I’ve been a hardworking dedicated good attitude helper for two years now at a shitty small and unorganized Tile Company and I honestly liked it until I found out about the lung cancer causing silica dust There’s so much bullshit at the shitty company I work for I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore and if they fuck me over so much so sometimes I’ll go two three weeks without any work because the bosses brother forgets to bid on jobs or they can’t find any jobs “” like whatever dude. I get made fun of and called a pussy for wearing a respirator when I mix thinset and grind tile or do anything that causes the silica dust to be kicked all over which is fucking everything in this stupid fucking trade.
You should look into the NTCA and become a member, opens a lot of doors and offers a lot of educational recourses.

Yes, I 100% agree. I have a great team right now, I'm always working on creating a team culture, and honoring them for their skills.
