      I loved this scene from the minute I saw, it plus the one at the end when the motorcade leaves the Waldorf for the airport. I've played this scene over and over myself too. It is both cool and funny. The movie is essentially poking fun at the King's arrogance and lavish lifestyle because it is just laughable to think of paying for four extra plane tickets just to bring in people to throw rose petals at your feet (I mean seriously - couldn't the chief of staff or lady in waiting arranged for some locals to do that?). It's implausible but somehow this movie makes it believable. The amazing music and grand entrance of the motorcade also make for one of the most unforgettable scenes in movie history.

    • @aesinam
      @aesinam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      caj11 1 well I assumed he has his own royal jet so he could bring as many servants as could fit without thinking of tickets

    • @caj111
      @caj111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I finally see your reply months later, thanks for your insight. Let me respond just because I love talking about this memorable scene...not all countries, particularly smaller ones, have jumbo jets for the heads of state that can fly long distances. The United Kingdom doesn't even own a presidential jet like the USA's Air Force One, the Royal Family and Prime Minister even used to fly commercial up until the Sept 11 attacks, now they charter a plane. Of course, perhaps that's what the king did in this case. Of course, he still incurred the cost of at least one hotel room, at the Waldorf no less for the rose bearers. I just find it amusing to fly people all the way from Africa to throw rose petals at your feet. Of course, it goes right along with the humor of this movie.

    Here's the thing. I remember watching this scene in the theater as the camera panned up and there was James Earl Jones, wrapped in a Lion's mane and Crown. I remember the audience cheering with excitement and satisfaction seeing this. It did not occur to me until years later that moment was the first time in our generation where we saw A Black Man portrayed as a King in American Cinema. Before there was T'challa of Wakanda. We had KING JAFFE' OF ZAMUNDA. :-)

    Powerful and beautiful music. Nile Rogers was genius on this composition. I love the look of disgust and disbelief on their faces as they exit the limos seeing the Prince living in such a dump. The rose bearers look absolutely gorgeous. Interesting the Queen never got out of the car. I guess it would've been too much for her to see her son living that way so The King told her to stay put. The Lady-in-Waiting's face was sickened seeing people standing by garbage. The King's servant was extremely reluctant to open the door to let The King out to see that atrocity. The King looked magnificent in that lion cloak with diamond eyes. Regal and superlative scene.

    This reminds me of when my uncle and aunt came from Djbouti, they are ministers and live in villas with chaufeurs and cars. They came to my city in Canada for a visit in the winter and were in disbelief of how dreary and average people dressed while my aunt was wearing 10k in gold... It's funny how Western people assume people are all poor in Africa, some live better than us.

    • @AMLCOrey
      @AMLCOrey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hayaglamazonluxe I happen to be German, not African. Actually, Sub-Sahara Africa holds a lot of interesting culture. Much of it is disregarded by Europeans and US American explorers. Understanding it holds a key to the history of us as a human species.
      The dogon culture, Tassili N'Ajjer national park, where buildings of the same efficiency and style were created like in Gizeh (Pyramids), in Cuzco and Nasca (Peru, Inca culture) and Mohenjo Daro (Pakistan) as well as on the Easter Islands (South Pacific).
      Africa must have had civilizations of a development degree equal or more advanced to modern Western or G8 Countries. Africans must have had access to air transport and deep sea ocean travel before we Europeans came up with it. They must have had contact with the other civilizations of the past. Else, why would the ruins look alike?
      These cultures must also have had a mjor influence on the Mossi Kingdoms in today's Burkina Faso, the City States of the Haussa in today's Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Cote D'Ivoire as well as on the Songhay in today's Niger and the early Mali culture. I curse the colonial era for not preserving enough artefacts and information but destroying important evidence on the way early history so everything appeared conform with racial ideologies and the church doctrin.
      Also, modern Sudan holds big surprises for us yet to be explored. Take the Nubian Empire alone, which co-existed with ancient Egypt. The society of ancient Sudan / Nubia was matriarchic. Women ruled over men. The artefacts speak a clear language, where mighty warrior queens were the role model of African women in central Africa about 2 to 3 millenia back. They were associated with lionesses and female panthers. The findings are clear on that. The so-called Candakian Queens ruled areas that streched up to the Somali and Kenyan cost.
      We still do not understand what caused this switch into patriarchic structures. This happened before the islamization of North, West and Central Africa. Slave trade and atrocities like in the Darfur crisis of 2003 were unthinkable in the ancient culture, where female leaders kept an equilibrium of law and order.
      The ancient matriarchic civilization could in my opinion have paved the way for the migration of Bantu tribes down South into today's Congo area and Zambia / Zimbabwe / Namibia.
      Coming to the South, where the Song (Pygmeans) in the Kalahari are optically and by their social community completely unlike any other tribe or people in the South of Africa. Yet, I find them to be similar to the Aboriginals of Australia. Again, similar cultures developed at a distance of 20,000 kilometers.
      They say, beavers do not know of each other and yet build dams the same way all over the world. Maybe, but they do not arrange them on an alternate equator in perfect geometric harmony with the others ;)

I was in elementary school when this movie came out and to this day, this particular scene still gives me goosebumps every. single. time. I watch it...and low key also makes me want to get up and dance! 😂✊🏾❤️
