The HQ Residential House, “Red means scary!”, or “You in Silent Hill, son!” His reactions to seeing the HQ asset are always hilarious, but I often find myself saying, “Red means scary,” both to myself and other people when watching or talking about horror films/series.
As soon as Mark got a gun he became a badass, shoots padlocks left and right, blows up explosives while in slow-mo Neo style and is ready to do battle with the end boss

In my playthrough, I personally got annoyed with the beginning segment, where Joyce would continuously bug me with voice lines over the phone while I was actively doing the things I was supposed to do (like having the letter in my hand). But the rest of the game was absolutely SOLID. The sound design really delivered the scares more than anything else. Got a little too Jumpscare heavy starting at the basement, but I still thought the game was good.

There was one time when I literally said "Don't-" (as in "Don't interrupt me") and she started talking about the gift under the tree before I could even finish talking. If the game had continued to be like that, I would have just quit the game. I'm glad that nagging stopped after I left my house. The game is in early access, so I definitely hope the devs fix it. Like, they could have her stop talking as soon as you pick up the postcard (but instead she KEEPS reminding you where the postcard is until you put it down). REALLY made it hard to stream/record.

@@coneillm I think it's more a problem of poor game design choices than it is a problem of the character. The more I think about the game (and while I was editing my own playthrough), the more holes there are in the plot and overall game design. There's a lot of potential in the game, but it's got a long way to go. I still LOVE its sound design and the tension it manages to build in the first "act" (up until gathering all 3 snowglobes) and the second act (the basement), but that tension falls flat after the basement chase. It's like they planned all their tension building around that chase scene, and then didn't know how to keep the rest of the game scary (this is a common mistake in horror games), so they filled it with jumpscares. Also, I realized while editing that the one time she actually chased me, the chase was cancelled when I got through the metal gate in the basement (John cancelled the same chase by hiding under a table in the pentagram room). The only other time I died was when I walked toward her on purpose before realizing I could outrun her. Basically, there's no threat of dying unless she sees you and you are standing still. There's no sprinting, and walking outruns her. Chases can be stopped by triggering scripted events or hiding under a table. I think it's still a really solid experience and worth the $7 I paid for it, but it's got a lot of big hurdles to clear to be a *good* horror game.

Thank you for mentioning your displeasure with the antagonist being ‘mentally ill’. As someone with a close loved one who struggles with psychosis, I really really dislike when horror media pulls that trope. The idea that mental illness is what causes horror antagonists to behave maliciously feeds into the horrible stigma that the general population has towards the mentally ill; the stigma that made my loved one break down and cry when they were diagnosed because they didn’t want to be associated with it. Even now, I have to be intentionally vague on their identity because they are afraid of people knowing about their diagnosis. This is a well done game, my mood was just soured when they brought up the antagonist being mentally ill.
Not only that, it's also incredibly cheap to just mark it off as mental illness. I guess it's just easier for the makers to mark it off as mental illness instead of thinking of something that makes more sense "lorewise"

This game had great scares because they werent really over the top jumpscares and all over the place, they were incredibly well timed and there was almost no build up. I dont think I've seen John jump this much in a long time.
I feel kind of dissatisfied because we didn't get to know more about the ex. I mean, I also have mental issues but that doesn't makes me a demonic entity too.. did Mark dated her as a demon already or did she sell her sould just to get him back? It's the implications that make me really curious.

If they're going to try and make it seem like you're trapped in the house, maybe the devs should make it somewhat believable. The windows next to the door aren't even covered or anything. There is nothing stopping the main character from just smashing the window and climbing out. At least block or cover the windows if they're gonna try and make it seem like you're trapped.
I was pretty impressed by the voice acting! There were also some really nice visuals, such as the fire effect when the ex-girlfriend teleported. I think Joyce called a few too many times/was too much of a hand-holder at the start, but other than that, this looked good!

John mimicking Irving talking about fireworks was by far the highlight of this for me, glad I'm not the only one who has RE5 dialogue living rent free in their head.
I work as an architect : If you change the "core" of the building, aka, the staircase/lift and circulation space, you have to shift all the area around to fit into it. one thing I remember HQ residential house is " who will put a stair so close to the entrance! i won't buy it if i see a house like that" great that they change this!

I think the "mental health issues" was just equivocating the health and obsession issues with the supernatural changes she was going through. Rationalizing things. She was possessed and obsessed, the former is hardly that uncommon and not asylum-level stuff. My brother's ex still texts him after getting married and divorced and him not replying for years.

I work as an architect : If you change the "core" of the building, aka, the staircase/lift and circulation space, you have to shift all the area around to fit into it. one thing I remember HQ residential house is " who will put a stair so close to the entrance! i won't buy it if i see a house like that" great that they change this!
There are a lot of houses with the stairs close to the entrances.

I don't know about others here but I find it funny that after playing The Callisto Protocol, John again played a game where the character again shimmies in-between obstacles(though not as frequent as in Callisto).
This game's a good example that the initial first impressions can be misleading, that was well made. Merry Christmas!

I think the "mental health issues" was just equivocating the health and obsession issues with the supernatural changes she was going through. Rationalizing things. She was possessed and obsessed, the former is hardly that uncommon and not asylum-level stuff. My brother's ex still texts him after getting married and divorced and him not replying for years.

I like how this game properly spooked John (well sometimes), cause most games he just has a blank stare whenever there's a cheap jumpscare. Which is hilarious don't get me wrong
