In Hong Kong, we can clearly tell the differences in the year of when the Toyota Coaster bus is manufactured. The differences can be seen from the headlight and the disk brakes. And besides diesel bus, we also have LPG Toyota Coaster buses here; which is a factor to distinguish the manufacturing year as the LPG ones are newer.
That's how most busses and trucks work. Big commercial vehicles have 1st gears that are short in range and very powerful in torque. The reason for this is that the vehicle should not stall or roll backwards when driving off on a steep hill with several tons of weight on board. So if your load is light or if you don't have any load, there is no need to start in 1st gear. If you start in 1st gear while the vehicle is empty, it will reach high rpm very quickly and you will have to shift to 2nd in about 2 or 3 seconds. When starting in 2nd it is more smoother for the driver and passengers.
pree the mat on the floor...Toyota Jamaica Paper floor mat...and some of the accessories still have plastic on them....had about 210km on the clock at the time..just drove it for Kingston off the lot..
The difference is probably with a faster gearbox and diff, 2010 to present pulls faster on flat and is more powerful uphill but full time the Toyota Jamaica type come with a 6 speed gearbox likewise for the Hiace
Love the sound of the coasters
it has a rear mirror on the rear windshield and also a clock inside, that only 2007 and up
Love these buses and the HiAce down in jamaica... Those sounds bring me memories

The hong kong Toyota Coaster drivers usually use the 2nd gear to start
You can use second gear as a starter if you want but most people use first gear
In Jamaica too
