I think it was back in the 1970s that Celine beat out Bryan Adams and his band at a talent contest held in Japan, and walked away with the top prize. So yes, Celine has been at or near the top of her game for more than 40 _years!_ If people take a moment to think about that, it will help them understand who the top talents _really_ are. Loved your explanation at 4:36 because I notice this so often in Celine’s singing and wasn’t sure if that is what melisma is defined as or resonance or what but the explanation of more an open or closed sound makes sense
Very happy to see a Celine analysis video Fil. I'm obviously a bit biased, as she is my ATF female vocalist. But you mentioned the vocal fry...she's definitely not known for it, she's more what I refer to as the "songbird" type voice. I don't know if it was a conscious decision on her & Rene's part, but the 2013 album Loved Me Back to Life contained a few songs with a significant amount of fry. Water & a Flame, Didn't Know Love & Breakaway. (Not to mention an amazing cover of the classic Seventeen from Janice Ian, produced by Babyface) It definitely seemed like a concerted effort to produce a different sound for her. I would love to see you put her on the "machine", and let's see the pitch control. Thanks again for all you do Fil. Many hours of enjoyment for your fans.
Your reactions and explanations are the most professional I've ever seen! Wow! I'm stunned 🤯 Could you react to her performance of "Purple rain" from Las Vegas where she mimics an electric guitar! There's a lot of C6 and C#6! 🔥🔥🔥 Or her performance of "Le Ballet" from Paris (1995) or Memphis (1997) where she does many things with her voice that can show her enormous vocal skills? I cannot choose one of them. "Purple rain" hits me like a train each time, while "Le Ballet" shows different absolutely ridicilous things that she's capable of doing with her voice! Thank you for your reactions! 🙏🙏🙏
well done, loved your explanation of what was going on. How about looking at Zachary Richard, now that you have ventured into francophone music? Cour fidele is a great album.
By the way, you’re a pretty first singer I think. Of course, I’m only hearing this as I cannot see the screen. However, thank you for as much audio description as you can provide. Also, thank you for the video. Let’s just hope that whenever she goes up to active fire, it doesn’t lead to a massive spasm like it did in the documentary, but you’re not supposed to know that yet unless you have seen the documentary before. 8:05
Please review Ginette Reno, especially “Un peu plus haut, un peu plus loin” especially her performance with Celine Dion and Jean Pierre Ferland. It is sooo emotional, and I am sure you will be amazed by Ginette’s voice. Ginette is a hero to Celine.

I'm a big Celine fan, but the open to closed sound is one thing I don't like about her voice. This was not a favorite, but I appreciated the analysis. I especially you explaining mic techniques. It's something I never heard about. As a wannabe/amateur singer, myself, these are good things to know.

I speak French. Inherent in the language are open vowels and closed nasal vowels. Being French Canadian it's entirely possible that she spoke French before learning English. Céline's French Canadian or Québécois informs her vocals regardless of English or Québécois. Céline throws some of her sound to the back of her throat. That's more something you'll hear in Québécois French than in European French . One thing that I personally found frustrating is that the sound was so muddy that I could not clearly hear the words.
"I woke up this morning baby The blues was pouring out of me" Cent fois ces mots je les ai dits Ces mots que d'autres avaient écrits De toute ma voix, de toute mon âme "With all the soul that I can" Le blues comme on me l'a appris "I woke up this morning baby" Mais ce matin là, j'ai compris La peine aux longs champs de coton J'imaginais de mon cocon Les coups, le sang, les temps boueux J'avais mal en fermant les yeux "His baby's far away" J'ai des pardons, j'ai des prières Mais l'blues c'est pas des phrases en l'air "I woke up this morning baby" Mais ce matin t'as vraiment froid Tu comprends du fond de ta poitrine Tous les blues sont écrits pour toi "Oh, oh I feel, the blues in me Nobody knows how I really feel Nobody knows, nobody cares" Les mots te brûlent un par un comme s'ils Comme s'ils t'appartiennent enfin Ces blues étaient les tiens De toute ma voix, toute mon âme "With all the soul that I can" Le blues qu'on n'm'a jamais appris "I woke up this morning The blues was pouring out of me" Nobody knows, nobody sees

This song can have a lot of different interpretation, someone's passing, how life can change two people and then separate them, etc but you don't need to understand a single word !!!! Please do an analysis of Ginette !!! th-cam.com/video/YEB2C9Wx0Mw/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
(I haven't been to voice class in over a year. Don't know that I ever will again. You make me miss singing even more than I do.)
Very awesome video! Thanks for the analysis! Very awesome!
Nice video!
I really like how diverse you are in picking music or artists to analyze.
An amazing singer!!!Love her!!
Magnifique!🌹
Thank you, Fil! 🖤🤘🏽
Greatest female singer in the world. Check her out at the tribute to Aretha Franklin killing it on A Change Is Gonna Come.
@Karen Nyere You can tell just how AMAZING her performance was by the fact that practically everyone were in tears by the end of it.
@@paulsmith2279 you have a nice day, too, Sunshine!
Tbh I’m a huge fan and wasn’t crazy about the rasp and strain but I think much of it was intentional in that performance.
'vocal gymnastics'--how appropriate, Fil. Perfect analysis to express her genius. Also, great guitar lines duplication. Thanks.
Beautiful!❤️
well done, loved your explanation of what was going on. How about looking at Zachary Richard, now that you have ventured into francophone music? Cour fidele is a great album.
Freaking Legend !!!!
That's my favourite ever live performance!!
I love your reaction ❤️
New sub here. Just found your channel and I really love it. I didn't realize there was so much involved in singing. I have a whole new appreciation for these amazing singers. I also enjoy watching your smiling face while you listen. Keep up the great work. ;)
Thanks!
Celine is naturally amazing, but I found myself focused on the blues guitar. Loved it.
I'm a big Celine fan, but the open to closed sound is one thing I don't like about her voice.
This was not a favorite, but I appreciated the analysis. I especially you explaining mic techniques. It's something I never heard about. As a wannabe/amateur singer, myself, these are good things to know.
Fascinating!
Thank you, very interesting as always.
it's amazing she was able to keep performing after the curtain fell on her.
19:25 she’s got a different performance of this where she does a riff peaking at Bb5
After watching many of your videos I’m convinced that music is harder than Rocket Science.
toute ma voix, toute mon âme...all my voice and soul..
I don't know jack about playing a guitar, but I feel as if I learn so much better how to appreciate music with your evaluations. I "hear better and smarter". Even if I don't know an E-Flat from a flat tire.
Hi Fil, last week I just discovered a beautiful great female singer from Australia named Delta Goodrem. I'm not sure if
you're familiar with her, however, she also has a very good singing range. She's also known as The Australian Queen.
Here is a list of songs you and your commenters may want to check out:
1) Enough 2) Believe Again 3) Wish You Were Here 4) Dear Life 5) Wings 6) Only Human 7) Dancing With A Broken
Heart. Enjoy!
Bless you
Would love to see a video on Clara Luciani, she has a gorgeous voice.
arianna grande does a hilarious and amazing impersonation of celine.
yeah, but she can't hold a candle to Céline vocally
"Midnight Rider" with Vince Gill, Gregg Allman and Zac Brown-This version just slays and the Vince Gill solo is killer. And that all-star band!:

I speak French. Inherent in the language are open vowels and closed nasal vowels. Being French Canadian it's entirely possible that she spoke French before learning English. Céline's French Canadian or Québécois informs her vocals regardless of English or Québécois.
Céline throws some of her sound to the back of her throat. That's more something you'll hear in Québécois French than in European French .
One thing that I personally found frustrating is that the sound was so muddy that I could not clearly hear the words.
"I woke up this morning baby
The blues was pouring out of me"
Cent fois ces mots je les ai dits
Ces mots que d'autres avaient écrits
De toute ma voix, de toute mon âme
"With all the soul that I can"
Le blues comme on me l'a appris
"I woke up this morning baby"
Mais ce matin là, j'ai compris
La peine aux longs champs de coton
J'imaginais de mon cocon
Les coups, le sang, les temps boueux
J'avais mal en fermant les yeux
"His baby's far away"
J'ai des pardons, j'ai des prières
Mais l'blues c'est pas des phrases en l'air
"I woke up this morning baby"
Mais ce matin t'as vraiment froid
Tu comprends du fond de ta poitrine
Tous les blues sont écrits pour toi
"Oh, oh I feel, the blues in me
Nobody knows how I really feel
Nobody knows, nobody cares"
Les mots te brûlent un par un comme s'ils
Comme s'ils t'appartiennent enfin
Ces blues étaient les tiens
De toute ma voix, toute mon âme
"With all the soul that I can"
Le blues qu'on n'm'a jamais appris
"I woke up this morning
The blues was pouring out of me"
Nobody knows, nobody sees
superb
Could you PLEASE, PLEASE analyze Callie Day singing "Lord Heard My Prayer"? This singer's voice control is amazing!!!
