I’m glad you mentioned about the chickens - we’ve stopped using the larvae 🐛 because our chickens and guineas were getting fat but no less flies. Good luck.

The barn I was at put them in the manure pile. Only drawback is if they run out of food they fly away to find a new source. Other than that they do a decent job on the flies.

I let loose a bunch of lady bugs around my roses to get all those nasty bugs that eat my rose leaves. Those little stinkers flew off and I still had to buy chemicals to treat my roses. I got praying mantis. They all scattered and I still had the problem. So I gave up on the bug against bug idea.
Love how your animals are so friendly towards you. Ours were to us also. But strangers? That is another story. Especially with our geese lol.

I had used the predator for several years having horses and cattle. I have found that barn swallows do an excellent job eliminating flys from my barn. Since I have a horse barn for the swallows they work great for me. But I would still be using the predator if I didn’t have the horse barn. I got on a schedule for the predator to be delivered every couple of months during spring and summer.

Did the instructions suggest it could take several applications to see if it works or needs to be reapplied? Most things do. Your not alone. I have seen several homesteaders complain that their animals are covered in horse flies, deer flies, reg flies. The size of your farm and amount of animals will make a big difference as well. Let's hope it works.

The Little wasp that eat's the fly larvae for cattle and horses used years ago for many month's never made any difference on flies, and it seemed like throughout the summer that the horse flies got a lot worse and the biting flies we used them in the barn on the fields around the barn any area that we saw flies when a new shipment they was coming in about every three to four weeks when a new shipment will come in we would put them where we noticed more flies like where the cattle or horses hung out under side s*** Eve or in the barn or wherever is wherever we was putting them and I was ordering large amounts of them I found the fly spray works faster easier and better for me

You may want to look at putting up some birdhouses to address the mature flies. See if you can work out a deal with the local shop teacher. You provide the wood and it could be a project for their classes. Then when they were done, you'd offer to buy the birdhouses off of any kids who were willing. Good promo for you, good for the shop kids, good for the critters. You could probably get sever vlogs out of it to boot.

Glad to hear that you got the wasps! It was almost 30yrs ago my Dad first introduced them to his horse ranch. They helped figure out how much we needed & replenished as needed. We spread them around in the corrals & stalls. The 2nd batch we spread around the birds pen(kept them penned up for a few days to give the wasps a chance) plus various places where all the dogs had their favorite spots to go to the bathroom. My neighbor even commented on a difference he noticed. From what I noticed by the 3rd round we had a huge improvement! We used to put BTWN 25-30 fly traps using the milk jugs and we were able to cut back thanks to the wasps! You'll notice the difference. The wasps seek out new places to lay their eggs which helps distribute them too!

I only have 2 horses. I started using them three years ago. One of my girls is very allergic so I wanted to cut down on fly spray. I started with the recommended amount for 2 horses which is 5,000 per month. It helped some. The next year I went up to 10,000. Last summer I went to 15,000 and that helped a lot. I hope you have good luck with them. 😊

It seems to take a few days or a week for the effects to begin but this will be another way to fight the flies and it’s good for the animals in any case.

With all the recent rain in Arkansas and Oklahoma, everything has sprung to life. Bugs galore. Darn ticks! There were small wasps that controlled pests in my granny's asparagus patch. They went after larva. We didn't introduce them, they were there every season. Never bothered us. Live at the top of a mountain with nearby cattle and poultry operations in the valley flatland. Have electronic zappers. Loud. You just convinced me to spent money for wasps... 🙂

Great idea with the wasps! I've seen them on several videos and people are happy with them. You may need to re-apply, as you mentioned, in a few weeks.
To help combat the adult flies, birds are a natural killer. You can also make a solution of dish soap, vinegar and water to spray on adult flies. The borax in the dish soap kills them. Best part is it won't hurt your animals. Thing to remember is that you have to spray the adult flies... this concoction isn't so much a detractant but a killer of adults. Perhaps spraying every few weeks when you are out checking on, and loving on, all your critters would help get on top of the adults. Adult horse flies life cycle is a month or two.
I would recommend putting up some bat houses. They are a huge help with mosquitos
Loved this video, Daniel. Watching you feed the animals the treats was adorable. Pepper is so curious - love it!

I've used milk bottle fly traps for years! Works on those nasty wasps too! You just have to be sure to put a few drops of Dawn in the water. My neighbor decided her horse barn and pig sty had to be built right next to our house, so you can imagine the flies I had to battle! CHAD at Adler farm sprayed his steers with a spray that seemed effective. Doesn't hurt to learn from others' experiences. I hope you won't be offended by my input.

Hahaha Onya Daniel for listening to Jason. He’s a good man who really does his research. Praying that the animals will get relief from flies with your little predators to come. Peer pressure is amazing

You can make your own ointment to control fly's, buy cheap cooking oil and fry chopped hot chilly, than put the oil in a jar to be rubbed on the arms. Wasp are good for the vegi garden.

Try Redmond Salt products - feed it to the animals. No flies.

I'm pretty sure if Lester can feed Gold Fish crackers to his animals, that Pepper and friends can eat horses treats.

I've used these with my horses, and they do help alot. With the chicken farm so close, you'll have to keep up with it tho
