স্বাধীনতার পর অর্থনৈতিকভাবে বাংলাদেশ এগিয়েছে অনেক দূর । তবে তা ধরে রাখতে নীতি নির্ধারকদের আন্তরিকতা নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তুলেছেন, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অর্থনীতি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ও গবেষণা সংস্থা সানেম’র নির্বাহী পরিচালক ড. সেলিম রায়হান। তার মতে, সঠিক সময়ে সঠিক সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে না পারায় দেশের অর্থনীতি আজ এই দশায়। যেমন, অর্থনীতির সুসময়েও বিনিময় হার বাজারভিত্তিক করা হয়নি। সম্প্রতি টিবিএসকে তিনি আরও বলেন, রাজনৈতিক নেতৃত্ব ও নীতি নির্ধারকদের মধ্যে পোশাক শিল্প নিয়ে মতৈক্য থাকলেও অন্যান্য খাত বিকাশে তা চোখে পড়ে না। তাই সব শিল্পের জন্য সমান সুবিধা দেওয়ার পরামর্শ ড. সেলিম রায়হানের।
