  • Magwasa hunted down a great wild animal, and as a reward, the Hadza elders gave him a special look. It’s a rite of passage that keeps their culture alive. The Hadza are an ancient hunter-gatherer tribe in Tanzania, numbering about 1,300, of whom 300 still practice a traditional way of life.
Trusted by his people, Magwasa has taken on a bigger role: to protect the forest from harm and ensure it remains abundant for future generations. By working with his community, Magwasa has found ways to balance traditions with conservation, safeguarding their way of life. As part of the Village Game Scouts (VGS) program, supported by @CarbonTanzania , @DoroboFund , and @ujamaa_crt , the community is actively patrolling their land to uphold their land rights, ensuring the continued protection of their ancestral home.
This story was captured and brought to life by @steve_wildphotographer and Rogathe Safari during the Indigenous Storytelling workshop in Yaeda Valley organised by @afrisos in collaboration with @greatspineofafrica . Under the mentorship of @jiganatra @jameskydd @georgebutlerillustration @emma_maasai and @nelsongodfrey_ .
