    have Tillotson H44A . 71 motoski capri starts but then revs way too high. can slow it down with the Choke only. Throttle seems ok open and closes ok ???

      Hard to say from a distance, but make sure the throttle cable is not adjusted too tight and not letting the arm hit the idle screw, and make sure the idle screw on the arm is not adjusted too high.
      Barring adjustment issues there could be a bad gasket behind the carb, spacer plate is cracked, primer sucking air and making it lean and revving up.

      @@robh9577 The throttle 'shutter door' is almost closed . should it be completely closed closed at idle ?

      @@bobpascas7670 again over the distance it's hard to tell lol.
      First is loosen the cable so it slides, then back the idle screw all the way out until the arm is resting on the stop. Give the idle screw 1 turn IN then take the slack out of the cable and tighten the cable screw back up.
      So you are positive the carbbisnt open too far, after that its about only air leaks that can cause too high of an idle

    Awesome set of videos. I have an HL and removed the check valve. I have another, but the hole is smooth, no lip
    How would I set the new check valve? (Had to replace due to bad fuel sitting in it)

      Every HL I have worked on the nozzle goes flush with the bowl of the carb. I'm not sure what you are tangling with, but good luck.

      Thank you. Dealing with a flooding issue, left a 20:1 mix in the carb for 2 months and it made a mess of things..... new nozzle did not fix it. Pop off is around 7psi. Might be easier to just get a new HL334.

    Hi is the check valve part of the main jet? or is the main jet separate?

    • @robh9577
      @robh9577  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well a tillotson really doesn't have a "main" jet like a mikuni etc, but the check valve/nozzle valve functions as the high speed jet. The amount of fuel going through the check valve is dictated by the high speed adjustment screw on the side of the carb.

    got a 1973 ski doo everest with a tillitson carb sled will only start when primed with fuel thru the intake, won't stay running just starts then won't pick up what should i just rebiuld the carb and check those caped ports

      6oh_ Stirrett if it's not pumping fuel either its not getting fuel from the tank, the diaphragm in the carb is no good, or needle is stuck.

      Any time you have the carb apart should pull the welch plugs. Be gentle with a 1/8 drill bit and once you just crack through, pry them out with a pick. Seat the plugs how they look in the video, don't beat the crap out of them. Tap with a small hammer.

    I have a 1970 Shovel with a Tillotson carbie. I have tried to rebuild the carbie as the bike wasn't running right coughing and spluttering all the time and starting it was a nightmare. I put a rebuild kit through it using the shop manual and thoroughly cleaned it and made sure of no leaks etc but it still wont start easy and pops and splutters at low rev. At idle when stopped at lights it revs high then drops to normal revs after a minute or so but it doesn't do it all the time. It also pops at low rev and then stalls but not all the time. This is driving me nuts.

      If it is carburetion, popping/backfiring, high idle are symptoms of lean mixture/intake gasket leak or fuel starvation.
      I have no experience on motorcycle carbs so I cant offer any specific advice. But the basics include needle and seat pressure (spring) being too stiff, needle fork set too high, a restricted or plugged filter/tank fitting, emulsion holes under the Welch plug dirty, low speed fuel screw issues.
      Hope you figure it out!

    how do you remove the check valve? i think mine is press fit

    • @robh9577
      @robh9577  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If yours is a press fit its probably an HD, you tap it out with a small socket etc.

    Where can the nozzle check valve be purchased?

    • @robh9577
      @robh9577  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the US EC carbs, if it is a screw in for HR/HL.
      Press ins are no longer available as far as I know.
