    What's your favorite budget microphone?

Excellent comparison video. Deserves a lot more likes imo.

    My pick:
    SM7b (the fullest solid sound)
SM57+windscreen (quite full and solid sound)
SM57 transformer removed (poor sound, like a smartphone recording)
    SM57 Pyle (tiny narrow sound)

My experience is that the SM57 is terrible for voice over because it will sound SO thin, mainly because it just does not work well at conversational levels.
SM57 shines when it is being bombarded with displaced air, like from a large guitar cab, a really loud singer, or a nice dynamic snare.
My biggest takeaway from this video is that I need to pick one of those wind screens, in order to make my old 57 a bit more versatile.
    Thanks again, my man.

A little EQ can work wonders. I tend the think the Shure SM7B is overrated and overpriced in today's market. There are other great dynamic mics in the $150 range that compete with the SM7B.

Great comparison, DSLR video shooter, recently did something similar and made a 7b style 3D printed housing, just with a 58. Printing right now, gunna try it, and do a transformer mod on the 58. You think Id need the mic booster, with this setup, after going transformerless? Gunna go into a MOTU m2.

Yep, I saw that video as well. The M2 has clean preamps so I don't think you'll need a mic booster necessarily. I say give it a try but if you're getting a lot of noise and feel you have to max out your preamp gain, then you should look into a mic booster. Good luck!
